2 About the 2017 Summit In the digital age, we often overlook the human elements of health care. Clinicians find themselves heavily reliant on technology to diagnose and treat patients, and sometimes the important emotional factors that influence a patient s health can get lost along the way. Similarly, the pace and urgency of providing health care services can take its toll on health care staff, who often do not take the time to focus on their own emotional state. A renewed focus on human factors will improve safety for patients and the health care workforce alike, and create an improved care delivery system. The Commonwealth of Virginia has designated Patient Safety Day as February 2nd. This two-day summit provides information and strategies to enhance patient safety, reduce the risk of error, and improve effectiveness of teams in the delivery of healthcare. The 2017 summit will focus on The Human Factor: Optimizing Safety for Patients and Providers. Participants will learn about and discuss methods for health care professionals to collaborate with patients and families in all aspects of care across the continuum. This event has gained a reputation as one of the best patient safety conferences in the nation, and attracts close to 600 attendees each year. Who Should Attend? Patient safety is not specific to any one position within a hospital or facility. Each and every employee holds safety to the highest standard. For this reason, we want to encourage not only nurses, physicians, clinical professionals, patient safety officers, risk managers, long term care professionals and hospital and health system leadership to attend, but anyone who is committed to practicing the safest of health care practices. Continuing Education Credits Joint Providership Activities: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the essential areas and policies of the Medical Society of Virginia through the joint providership of Inova and Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. Inova is accredited by the Medical Society of Virginia to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CMEs:\ The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association and INOVA jointly present the annual 2015 Virginia Patient Safety Summit. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship. INOVA is accredited by the Medical Society of Virginia (MSV) to provide Continuing Medical Education credit. The INOVA Learning Network of INOVA Health System is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Virginia Nurses Association Continuing Education approval Committee, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation.
