Course Textbook: EMR Complete: A Work Text, Daniel Limmer Pearson/Brady (to be purchased by the student) Students can contact NETS, LLC for pricing on a book purchased through the course. Course Cost: $ per students (Checks can be made payable to Northeast Emergency Training Solutions) A $50.00 cancellation fee will be assessed to students who drop the course 2 weeks prior to the start of class. Course Completion Requirements: Successful completion of this course requires adherence to course policies, maintaining a course average of 80%, a minimum score of 80% on the course final examination and successfully demonstrating all required skills. All outstanding balances must be paid in full prior to sitting for the final class exam. Course Description: The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course is an entry-level emergency medical provider course. The Emergency Medical Responder course prepares the EMR student to provide pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of EMR s, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma and special considerations for working in the pre-hospital setting. Course Location: Milton Fire Station Conference Room 47 Bombardier Rd. Milton, VT Course Meeting Days: Tuesdays and Thursday: (6:00 PM 9:00 PM) except for the first night will be Saturdays (8:00 AM 5:00 PM) these classes will have a 1 hour lunch break Course Length: 72 hours

2 Prerequisites: Current and Valid BLS for Healthcare Provider/CPR for Professional Rescuers card (AHA or Red Cross) Due on first night of class Attendance Policy: Attendance is mandatory for all scheduled class sessions, including practical labs. Excused absences may be granted by the course instructor(s) for extenuating circumstances. If a student misses any class, he/she is responsible for any missed quizzes/examinations/materials covered in class. Prompt arrival is expected at all classes. It is the student s responsibility to sign the attendance roster to ensure credit. Please provide a working address and phone number. will be the primary form of communication for all class matters. In the event of inclement weather, students will be contacted via as soon as is reasonably possible. Any classes missed due to inclement weather will be made up at a later date to be determined. Professional Conduct: Students are expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the professional expectations of an EMS provider at all times. Academic dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated and is grounds for immediate dismissal from the course. Examples include but are not limited to plagiarism, cheating, lying. Required Supplies (student is responsible for obtaining): Pen/pencil, notebook A watch that measures seconds (smartphone does not count) Penlight Blood pressure cuff and stethoscope Pocket Mask BSI: Safety glasses, non-latex exam gloves Performance Evaluation: There will be quizzes as well as a mid-term and final exam. Students will need to earn a passing score of 80% on each evaluation. A minimum grade point average of 80% is necessary for overall course completion and eligibility to sit for the NREMR exam. Students will also present a 5-minute topic of their choice (cleared by the course instructor) about the EMS System or Care. There are five (5) skills stations consisting of: -Oxygen Administration -BVM Ventilations -Cardiac Arrest/AED -Medical Assessment -Trauma Assessment Each student must demonstrate competency for each skill station. Students will also be evaluated based on class participation, leadership, teamwork, attitude, professionalism and respect towards their fellow classmates and instructors.

3 Certification: Successful course completion requires successful completion of all components in this syllabus/schedule. Students must complete the course successfully before presenting themselves to test for NREMT certification. Students must meet the minimum requirements outlined by the Vermont Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services to be granted a Vermont EMR license. Psychomotor Exam: An exam date will be requested to District #3, however there is no guarantee this will occur. As such, students may be responsible for traveling to another EMS District for testing. Cognitive Exam: This is to be scheduled by the student. Testing takes place at Pearson Vue testing centers. There is a fee associated with taking the exam if you are not affiliated with a Vermont department. (
