2 Strong reputation & community support Faculty, counselors & success specialist, staff who care High pass rate on National Licensure Exam (NCLEX) Many graduates employed locally State of the art technology to help you learn: Modern equipment for skills practice Simulation lab Nursing apps Program began in th class will graduate in August 2018 Prepares Graduates to take the NCLEX PN NCLEX - National Council Licensure Examination Vocational Nurses (VN) also known as Practical Nurses (PN) in other states LVN licensure comes after passing NCLEX-PN One Year VERY Full-Time Commitment August to August Fall/Spring/Extended 10 week Summer Session Mostly follows regular Cuesta College Calendar, but there are exceptions Tuesday through Saturday Classes are all on the Paso Robles Campus, with clinical days currently in Templeton, Morro Bay, Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo Clinicals are mostly in Long Term Care agencies 2

3 All students receive a Certificate of Achievement The Associate Degree Option has additional requirements: - English 201A or higher level course - Fine Arts/Humanities - American Institutions - Social Institutions - Cultural Diversity - Health Education - Completion of 60 credits with grade of C or higher in all courses The Licensed Vocational Nursing Associate in Science Degree can be earned at any time and is not required to be accomplished before or during the LVN Program Refer to Cuesta College Catalog or schedule appt with Academic Counseling Lecture = 14 hours each week Lab = 7.5 hours Clinical = 18 hours each week (Friday/Saturday) Independent Clinical Preparation = 4+ hours per week Study = 27 hours (3 hours per 1 hour lecture) Study Group = 4 hours minimum per week 8 hours per night = 56 hours Total of 128 hours of your time each week of the total 168 hours that exist in each week, leaving 38 hours remaining for commuting, family, work & personal time Bio 212 & 212L Human Biology with Lab or completion of a higher level course Math 127 (5 units) Intermediate Algebra or Math 128 (6 units) Applied Algebra or completion of a higher level course English 156 College Reading & Writing (4 units) or completion of a higher level course Current California CNA Certificate Medical terminology is strongly encouraged Prerequisite coursework should be recent - content has changed over the years and LVN curriculum builds on this knowledge RN program prerequisites are not the same see the program website or a nursing counselor An equivalency evaluation for all prerequisite courses completed outside Cuesta is strongly recommended see next slide 3

Notification of admission status will be ed in March 2019 All notifications will be sent to your my.cuesta.edu student address my.cuesta.edu address is provided to you after applying to Cuesta College at It is the applicant s responsibility to check their my.cuesta.edu for timesensitive notifications. 2. Final admission criteria (for admitted students only) will be required after notification of admission status. 3. Next Program begins August 2018 & completes August 2019 Register for Admission to Cuesta College at: If it has been more than 2 semesters since you ve taken a class at Cuesta, you need to re-apply! Complete the Cuesta College LVN Program Application on line during application period in January. 5 Computerized Random Draw of all Eligible Applicants * No Wait List! Must Reapply if not Admitted *Name is submitted twice into random draw if: You ve previously submitted two eligible LVN program applications in the past three years (2016, 2017 or 2018) but were not selected You ve worked 500 hours as a CNA within the last 5 years. If both criteria apply, your name will be entered three times! Refer to Program website often for most current information Instructions & Forms Distributed at Student Orientation in late April; all requirements will be due in July Physical Examination Lift, see, hear, smell, verbal and written communication AHA Healthcare Provider CPR Card Proof of Immunity Lab titers and/or documentation of MMR x 2, Varicella x 2, Hep B, Tdap, TB screening Influenza vaccination required during Fall semester. Background Check Drug Screen Estimated Cost & Financial Aid Tips Approximate cost is $5,000 - $6,000 * post-program costs include another $583-$715 for application requirements, NCLEX-PN testing & licensing fees from the state (BVNPT) Includes tuition, books & supplies, parking permits, uniform, etc. Estimated costs by semester can be found on the program website: Financial Aid is Available!
