4 1 Venepuncture Overview Approx ½ day This Venepuncture Training course is designed for all RGNs, enrolled nurses and qualified staff who may have not conducted venepuncture before or require a refresher to update their skill set. Attending this course will update your theory skills and provide the opportunity for practice before carrying out the procedure in a work environment. Following the theory of venepuncture there will be a practical session designed to offer all participants to put their skills into practice in a controlled environment. Subsequently, the procedures for preparing the patient and driver, and for commencing the infusion, are outlined. A number of troubleshooting ideas and the practical application of syringe driver to be presented. At the end of the course attendees will be familiar with current legislation, drug categories, labelling, prescriptions, drug administration and the accompanying paper work. Delegates will learn how to conduct primary and secondary assessment including basic first aid and placing casualties into the recovery position. They will also learn the principles of resuscitation in adults, children and infants and will demonstrate this practically.
