3 Amendment #2: Grading System The grading system is as follows: Letter Grade Numeric Grade Grade Points A B C F I 0.00 W 0.00 *The minimum passing grade for all Nursing Programs is 75%. Amendment #3: Institutional Loans and Late Payment Policy Institutional Loans Antigua College International makes institutional loans available to students in order to defray tuition and education costs. Any student receiving this loan is required to make monthly in-school payments as agreed to on the Enrollment Agreement. See also Late Payment Policy below. At least sixty percent of the total institutional loan must be paid by time of program completion. A student that has not paid at least sixty percent of the institutional loan will not be eligible to graduate. Late Payment Policy Tuition payments are due by the due date listed on a student s Enrollment Agreement. Payments not made in full by the due date are considered late. A late payment fee in the amount of $15.00 or 10% of the installment payment, whichever is lesser, will be applied to the student s account after five days. Any student who is late with a payment may be removed from class and/or not allowed to progress until the account is made current. Further: Any student thirty days past due on their monthly payment will not be allowed to enroll in a new class. Any student sixty days past due on their monthly payment will automatically be withdrawn for non-payment. Amendment #4: General Graduation Requirements General Graduation Requirements Students will be eligible for graduation only if their academic, laboratory and clinical progress in the program are satisfactory with a minimum final grade of 75%. Students must have a minimum attendance rate of 90% of the scheduled classroom/clinical time each calendar month after subtraction of excused absences. Students are required to successfully pass the exit exam(s); but, to be eligible for the exit exams they must have first completed and passed all the courses pertaining to their program of study. Regardless of program, a student is eligible for graduation under the following conditions: Successfully pass all courses with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (C). 3

4 Successfully pass all courses with a GPA of 2.0 (C). Complete all required assignments and skills test with satisfactory evaluations. Complete all required clinical hours and obtain satisfactory evaluations. Successfully pass the corresponding Exit Exams: one HESI Exit Exam and one ATI Exit Exam Financial account must be current and at least 60% of the total institutional loan must be paid. Complete exit interviews with Program Director and Placement Director. Amendment #7: Add-Drop Period and Voluntary Course Withdrawal The Drop-Add period at Antigua College International is defined as the first week of class meetings for each course start (see page 65 for the Drop Deadline Matrix). The student must notify the Education Department in writing which can be via or by submitting the official drop form completed in person at the college. Course Add: o With the Program Director s permission, a student can choose to add a course to his/her schedule within the Drop-Add period, but only if space is available in that class. A student may not add a course after the Drop-Add period. 4

5 Course Withdrawal: o Drop with Attempted Credit Reversal: A student may voluntarily withdraw from a course within the Drop-Add Period without penalty. No penalty is incurred only if s/he notifies the Education Department of the intention during the Drop-Add Period. If notification is received after the Drop-Add Period, the student is not eligible for a credit reversal. o Withdrawal without Attempted Credit Reversal: If a student fails to attend class during the Drop-Add Period without notifying the Education Department, s/he will automatically be dropped from the class with a W at the end of the Drop- Add Period, but will not receive a credit reversal. A student may voluntarily withdraw from a course after the Drop-Add Period at any point prior to the Midterm exam. However, the student must notify the Education Department of his/her intention to drop a course, in person or in writing. This student will receive a grade of W, will incur Attempted Credits, and will be financially responsible for the associated course credits. PLEASE NOTE: [i] Failure to notify the Education Department will result in a course failure. [ii] Once the student takes the midterm exam, s/he cannot withdraw. [iii] The student will not be allowed subsequent drops of the same course. Amendment #8: Home Health Aide Diploma Program Home Health Aide Home Health Aide (HHA), Diploma Program Program Description Students of the Home Health Aide program will learn to perform duties which include providing physical comfort and care for patients, nutrition, and other sustaining services for home health care recipients. The students will have 33 hours of lab to practice, demonstrate and perform procedures associated with bedside client care. Program Objectives: Upon completion of this program, The graduate will be able to demonstrate the procedures associated with bedside client care. The graduate will possess the skills and knowledge to become employed as entry level Home Health Aide, working for home health agencies and hospice care. Credential Awarded After completion of the program, the students will be awarded a Home Health Aide Diploma. 6 Home Health Aide Diploma Program consists of: 75 clock hours (42 lecture hours and 33 lab hours) 3.75 weeks of academic instruction (less than 1 month) Catalog Addenda The student may also be responsible for any additional fees which may apply throughout the life of the program. These fees are payable at the time they become applicable. Refer to Page 17 of the catalog for a complete listing of potential additional fees. Courses are not necessarily taught in the order presented. Antigua College International reserves the right to make changes to the program to stay abreast of changing industry standards. Students will learn the history of HIV/AIDS, procedures and protocols required for caring for HIV/AIDS patients, the pathology of the disease and the expectations, and the objectives of clinical management that are standard for HIV/AIDS patients. CPR 100 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation 1 Lecture Hour, 3 Lab Hours The skills learned in this course will help the student recognize cardiac arrest, recognize life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner, ensure emergency care is on the way quickly, and help a person until EMS arrives. Students also learn to recognize the warning signs of heart attack along with AED Training. 6

7 HHA 100 Verbal & Written Communications 6 Lecture Hours This course will enhance verbal and written communication skills. Students will learn basic sentence structure and grammar for developing the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the healthcare setting. Verbal communication will be developed through oral presentation and word enunciation. HHA 101 Laws & Ethical Standards for Home Health Aides 4 Lecture Hours In this course students will learn the laws and ethical standards that govern the activities of the Home Health Aide. Students will hold active discussion on ethical issues that are faced in the Home Health setting. HHA 102 Physical Comfort & Patient Safety 5 Lecture Hours, 5 Lab Hours In this course students will develop patient care skills, specifically in physical comfort and patient safety. Students will learn the importance of and the appropriate procedures and actions involved in creating a comfortable and safe environment for patients. HHA 103 Nutrition 10 Lecture Hours, 5 Lab Hours Protocols for patient care include nourishment, nutrition, and procedures for feeding patients. In this course students learn the importance of balanced nutrition, diabetic diets, other special needs diets, and essential nutrition principles for patients. HHA 104 Infection Control Procedures 5 Lecture Hours, 10 Lab Hours This course trains students on procedures for infection control. Students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of OSHA guidelines, as well as skills in isolation procedures, gloving, and appropriate hand washing techniques. HHA 105 Home Health Care 7 Lecture Hours, 10 Lab Hours In this course students will become oriented to the purpose and history of home health care. Students will learn about the role of medical workers involved in home health care, particularly that of the home health aide, in the home health setting. Students will practice patient care skills and administrative skills involved in home health care. 7

8 Amendment #10: Practical Nursing (PN) Program Decryption Catalog Addenda Practical Nursing (PN), Diploma Program Program Description The purpose of this program is to prepare the student for employment as a practical nurse by providing the theoretical knowledge and clinical competence to obtain licensure and the standard of professionalism necessary for the successful practice of nursing. The college awards a certificate upon the successful completion of this Clock- Hour program. Practical Nursing is an intensive, full time program, which requires 1355 clock hours. 8
