1 1 An Invitation to Apply HARTWICK COLLEGE NURSING LEARNING AND TECHNOLOGY LAB COORDINATOR THE SEARCH The Department of Nursing at Hartwick College invites applications and nominations for a Learning Lab and Technology Resource Coordinator. Under the supervision of the Department Chair and the Director of Simulation, the Learning Lab/Technology Resource Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the Department of Nursing s learning lab as an optimal learning environment. Additionally, the Coordinator will supervise Nursing Learning Lab and Technology Specialists, assist Nursing faculty with the direction and validation of nursing students clinical skills, the review of learning resource materials, and assist nursing students in their preparation for clinical experiences. The Coordinator is responsible for academic advising to assigned students, 1 Photos from Trip Advisor: 1

2 facilitating classroom/clinical/laboratory learning experiences, assisting to students and faculty with distance learning and simulation technology needs, and overseeing student employees. This position also entails communication between other college departments, vendors, agencies, consultants, and others as indicated. This new position reflects recent program growth and expansion. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION The responsibilities of Learning and Technology Lab Coordinator include: Oversees Nursing Lab staff and work-study students, and collaborates with faculty, to prepare the lab for lab related activities such as, skills practice, simulations, videotaping, certifications, and learning experiences. Hires and supervises work study students to assist students with clinical preparation, videotaping, and skills validation in the lab during open hours throughout the week Assists with distance learning and curricular technology needs of students and faculty Collaborates with course faculty and curriculum committee in the creation of simulation scenarios and in conducting evaluation of scenario effectiveness Oversees evaluation of videotaping and tracks faculty progress with videotape evaluation. Overall administration of the Nursing lab including, but not limited to purchasing, supervising staff and student employees, monitoring resources, and conducting annual inventory of equipment and supplies Serving as faculty for laboratory and clinical courses as needed Providing academic advising to assigned students (available 2 hours per week) during the regular academic year; meet with prospective students (post-secondary students, internal and external transfers) as necessary; Complying with all applicable College, Federal, State, local and associational regulations Perform other job-related duties QUALIFICATIONS Minimum requirements for this position are a Registered Professional Nurse with a Master s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university, with 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience. Current license as Registered Professional Nurse in New York Stat, and current certification in Basic Life Support is required. Individuals without an earned Master s Degree in nursing will be encouraged to demonstrate progress towards degree completion. Must have demonstrated organizational and communication skills including the ability to work collaboratively with students and faculty. Current knowledge of the rules and regulations of the New York State Departments of Health and Education is required. Position requires computer proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc.), knowledge of AV equipment, curriculum, and simulation technology. Knowledge of D2L and other computer applications is important. Experience working in an academic environment or with nursing students is a plus. 2

ABOUT HARTWICK COLLEGE Hartwick College is a private liberal arts and sciences college of about 1200 students, located in Oneonta, NY, in the northern foothills of the Catskill Mountains. 4 The College has 176 faculty members, of which 108 are full-time and 68 are part-time; 80% of full-time faculty members hold the highest degree in their disciplines; 83% are tenured or on tenure-track; the student to faculty ratio is 11:1. Hartwick College is an independent college operating under a charter granted by the Regents of the University of the State of New York. The College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the National Association of Schools of Music. The baccalaureate nursing program at Hartwick College is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The Bachelor of Science degree program in chemistry is approved by the American Chemical Society. Hartwick College s Teacher Education Program is a Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accredited program. DEPARTMENT OF NURSING There are currently 13 full-time faculty members and 4 staff in the Department of Nursing, which anticipates enrolling nearly 300 majors in Fall The Department prides itself on, and is committed to, its shared governance structure. While currently not offering any graduate degrees, the Department hopes to propose starting master s programs in the very near future. Hartwick College has more than 70 years of experience preparing nurses at the baccalaureate level. The broad liberal arts and sciences education that complements Hartwick s nursing program provides the communication, critical thinking, informed decision-making, and leadership skills the profession demands. Hartwick nurses are highly qualified, self-directed individuals who are able to thrive in both the present and a rapidly changing healthcare system of the future. Students take nursing classes starting in their first semester, including in the newly-expanded nursing lab. By the end of the semester, students have the chance to practice these skills in a clinical setting. The nursing curriculum ensures that Hartwick s nursing students are well prepared for the realities of entry-level positions in any area of professional nursing practice, and in any setting. As leaders in the field, the majority of Hartwick nursing graduates pursue advanced degrees in leadership, practice, teaching, and research. Hartwick College offers a wide variety of January Term courses, and in the junior year, nursing students have the option of taking Transcultural Nursing in Jamaica, West Indies. This offers an opportunity to learn firsthand about the impact of culture, politics, economics, and globalization on healthcare and healing. Senior nursing students are engaged in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, Community Health, and Leadership courses, among others. In the final semester, the Independent Practicum gives seniors the opportunity to narrow their focus on an area of interest such as pediatrics, ICU, or labor and delivery and to shadow a nurse preceptor for several weeks. 4
