Operating Room Renovation/Same Day Surgery Expansion Space would be renovated to allow space for pain management procedures. Same Day Surgery area will be renovated and expanded by 4 beds. Surgery entrance would be renovated to provide a more convenient and hospitable area for patients and families. Plans will allow for full utilization of 3 rd operating room. Desire is to implement best outpatient surgery practices/measures. Project Purpose and Need: Growth in surgery, particularly outpatient procedures, has created necessity for expansion of Same Day Surgery area to improve flow for patients, physicians, and staff. Department/Division Priority: 1 Unscheduled 2009 $2,200,000 Replacement/Enhancement 59
Orthopaedic Center of Excellence Complete 3 rd Floor Room Renovation Renovate the remaining Medical/Surgical floor into an orthopaedic inpatient unit. Bartlett is moving towards creating an Orthopaedic Center of Excellence to accomplish the desire of BRH and orthopaedic surgeons to retain a higher percentage of patients from Juneau and to draw in a higher percentage of orthopaedic patients from the region. This would include development of a Joint Replacement Center (Joint Camp) approach to inpatient total joint procedures, development of a Joint Recovery Center, and development of a Spine Center with a focus on comprehensive, one stop solution for back pain resources/consultation. Project Purpose and Need: Asbestos abatement and renovation of roughly one-third of the Medical/Surgical patients rooms was deleted from the current project - called Project due to higher project costs/bids over available funds. These remaining rooms would have more than one bed and no shower unless renovated as what will be done with other rooms. The growth in orthopaedics creates the opportunity and need to complete renovation of the 3 rd floor patient rooms and to enchance services to patients. Department/Division Priority: 2 Unscheduled 2009 $7,000,000 Replacement/Enhancement Prepared By: Bartlett Regional Hospital Date Prepared: 12/4/07 60
Autoclave-To Process Regulated Medical Waste Medical/hazardous waste would be sterilized and then ground up to allow for disposal at landfill rather than having to be shipped out of Juneau for disposal. Project Purpose and Need: Current process is to put hazardous/red bag waste into containers which are then shipped via barge to WA for disposal. Process is costly and bears some risk with multiple handling of this hazardous waste. Department/Division Priority: 3 Unscheduled 2009 $400,000 Planning/Design/Construction Prepared By: Bartlett Regional Hospital Date Prepared: 12/4/07 61
Nuclear Medicine Camera This will replace our existing Nuclear Medicine camera which has reached the end of its life. Project Purpose and Need: Current Nuclear Medicine camera is increasingly difficult to service, maintain, and repair. With it reaching the end of its life cycle, we need to replace/update to newer technology Department/Division Priority: 4 Unscheduled 2009 $375,000 Replacement/Enhancement 62
Digital Mammography This would replace our existing mammography equipment with 2 digital mammography units - 1 for in the hospital and 1 for a mobile unit which would travel around Southeast Alaska. Project Purpose and Need: Studies show that digital mammography is significantly better than film mammography in screening women who are under age 50, or women of any age who have very dense breasts. Digital mammography allows improvement in image storage and transmission because images can be stored and sent electronically. Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since 1990, and these decreases are believed to be the result, in part, to earlier detection and improved treatement. Department/Division Priority: 5 Unscheduled 2009 $870,000 Replacement/Enhancement 63
