4 Introduction What is an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP)? An ACP is a professional who has acquired the expert knowledge base, complex decision making skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice, the characteristics of which are shaped by the context and/or country in which s/he is credentialed to practice. A Masters degree is essential for entry level.

Improving the quality of health outcomes Synthesise and critically evaluate information from diverse sources to make informed judgements about the quality of practice. Challenge the effectiveness of therapeutic programmes and associated risk and reflect upon their impact. Continuously assess and monitor risk in their own and others practice and challenge others about wider risk factors. Evaluation and research Critically appraise and synthesise the outcomes of relevant research, evaluation and audits and apply them to improve practice and alert appropriate individuals and organisations to the evidence base.
