Sandwell Valley School and Sandwell Community Care Trust Training attends training and briefing events with the police and external agencies. 2. The Prevent Lead for Sandwell Valley School and Sandwell Community Care Trust Training is the Safeguarding Lead C eddes and two other deputies. DSO is responsible for oversight of the Prevent Plan & update to SMT. 3. The Prevent Lead is familiar with both Local Authority and Police Prevent Leads. Page 2 of 12
3 Prevent Vulnerability / Risk Area taken/already in place to mitigate / Staff Training Do all staff have sufficient knowledge and confidence to: 1. exemplify British Values in their management, teaching and through general behaviours in the institution. 2. understand the factors that make people vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism and to challenge extremist ideas which are used by terrorist groups and can purport to legitimise terrorism. 3. have sufficient training to be able to recognise this vulnerability and be aware of what action to take in response. 1. Staff have undertaken BV training Certs available. Information cascaded to all staff during team briefings. 2. All staff have undertaken PREVENT training see CERTs. 3. All staff have access to procedure flowchart and PREVENT and BV policy. Page 3 of 12

Are there adequate arrangements and resources in place provide pastoral care and support as required by the institution? 2. Does the institution have chaplaincy provision or is this support signposted locally or brought in? 3. Are their adequate monitoring arrangements to ensure that this support is effective and supports the institutions welfare and equality policies? 1. A Reflection room is available to all students where pastoral staff members can give advice and guidance as needed. 2. We do not have chaplaincy provision. PSHE sessions are offered to all students. Some Sessions explore different faiths, cultures, tolerance and British values. 3. All advice and support offered to students within the reflection room is documented with agreed targets set. 4. SMT check the level of support and the effectiveness of its impact. Referrals are made as and when necessary. Page 4 of 12

Is it well communicated to staff/students and complied with? 3. Are off campus events which are supported, endorsed, funded or organised through the institution? 1. Speakers that are invited in reflect the student demographic and needs. Students are able to express their needs, wishes and interests when considering and choosing guest speakers. A guest speakers visitors policy is in place. 2. Any student requests are debated and any choices are then put forward to the SMT. Staff then meet to discuss student requests. 3. Events which are organised reflect the curriculum framework as well as being in response to student voice. 4. Any off site events meet health and safety requirements to include risk assessments. Events are either in response to student voice or are embedded as part of the curriculum. Page 5 of 12

Does the institution have a policy relating to the use of IT and does it contain a specific reference and inclusion of the Prevent Duty? 2. Does the institution employ filtering/firewall systems to prevent staff/students/visitors from accessing extremist websites and material? 3. Does this also include the use of using their own devices via Wi-Fi? 4. Does the system alert to serious and/or repeated breaches or attempted breaches of the policy? 1. Sandwell Valley School and Sandwell Community Care Trust Training has policies on safe usage of the internet (cyber safety) as well as a separate policy on the Prevent Duty. Both cyber safety and Prevent are also mentioned in the safeguarding policy. 2. Sandwell Valley School and Sandwell Community Care Trust Training has a firewall and a filter which prevents students from accessing inappropriate sites. It also monitors students accounts regularly, students trying to access blocked sites are flagged within the system so staff can take appropriate action. They must be kept inside a locker in order to prevent students from accessing inappropriate sites whilst in school. We do not provide WIFI. 4. Students usage is regularly monitored and spot checks are made on their accounts to identify any unauthorised activity. Prayer and Faith Facilities 1. Does the institution have prayer facilities? 1. A quiet room that can be used as a prayer room upon request. Page 7 of 12

Are there effective arrangements in place to manage access to the campus by visitors and non-students/staff? 2. Is there a policy regarding the wearing of ID on campus? Is it enforced? 3. Are dangerous substances kept and stored on site? 4. Is there a policy in place to manage the storage, transport, handling and audit of such substances? 5. Is there a policy covering the distribution (including electronic) of leaflets or other publicising material? 1. A visitor s policy in place. 2. All visitors will require visitors passes and will escorted at all times. 3. Dangerous substances are stored in accordance to COSHH procedures. 4. We have individual risk assessments for substances that are hazardous to health. 5. A member of staff is responsible for distributing materials as agreed with SMT. Page 8 of 12

Is protection against the risk of radicalisation and extremism included within Safeguarding and other relevant policies? 2. Do Safeguarding and welfare staff receive additional and ongoing training to enable the effective understanding and handling of referrals relating to radicalisation and extremism? 3. Does the institution utilise Channel as a support mechanism in cases of radicalisation and extremism? 4. Does the institution have a policy regarding referral to Channel identifying a recognised pathway and threshold for referral? 1. We have a separate policy which outlines the prevent duty as well as it being included in the safeguarding policy. 2. All DSPs have relevant safeguarding training which is updated every 2 years. The safeguarding leads have also been on Prevent training which is a recognised Level 2 qualification. 3. Staff are aware of channel. The safeguarding lead has sought advice the police and the designated prevent person for the local area. 4. We have guidance within both the safeguarding policy and the Prevent policy. Page 9 of 12

Are staff and students made aware of the Prevent Duty, current risks and appropriate activities in this area? 3. Are there information sharing protocols in place to facilitate information sharing with Prevent partners? 1. All staff know who the Prevent lead is and this is clearly displayed on the safeguarding information board. 2. Staff are made aware of the Prevent Duty, students are provided with specific sessions during PHSE. 3. All staff have completed the government Prevent training as well as Channel training. The Prevent lead also does in house training and updates regularly. 4. The DSO links with external agencies to share and discuss information when appropriate. Flowchart of the process is in place. Is a suitably trained and informed person identified to lead on the response to such an incident? 3. Are effective arrangements in place to ensure that staff and students are appraised of tensions and provide advice where appropriate? 1. A specific policy is in pace to deal with any threat of terrorism. 2. The health and safety officer is the lead person who will lead and respond swiftly to any identified incident 3. All staff have received a briefing on the policy 4. Any tensions which arise regarding incidents are immediately addressed by staff. Pastoral staff are able to give advice and guidance as appropriate. Page 11 of 12
