1 PROJECT OFFICERS CONSUMER PARTICIPATION PROJECTS POSITION DESCRIPTION SECTION A: POSITION DETAILS Position title: Employment Status: Classification: Location: Hours: Contract Details: Project Officers Consumer Participation Projects Full and Part-time applications will be considered CSD 3 Band 1 2 from $50,776 - $52,041 (pro rata) To be advised Monday to Friday, 9am 5:30pm 6 month contract ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT Neami is a National not for profit mental health organisation that has been providing psychosocial rehabilitation and support to people with a mental illness for over 20 years. A range of federally and state funded programs are offered at 26 service sites in Australia. As a progressive organisation Neami uses the Collaborative Recovery Model (CRM) to further its commitment to consumer participation and recovery through a strengths-based approach to service delivery. POSITION OVERVIEW The Project Officers will support the further development of Neami s Consumer Participation and Continuous Improvement programs through two key projects: A review of the Consumer Advisory Groups at Neami - working within the Service development team, the position is responsible for completing a consultation with consumers, staff and management to ensure systems and process are in place to support the CAGs to achieve their intended outcome. Development of a robust and accessible Complaints and Feedback management system to support reflection and continuous improvement. The successful applicants will have strong consultation, project management, written and verbal communication and critical analysis skills, along with knowledge of the mental health field. They will be allocated to projects according to skills, interest and availability. Some interstate travel may be required. Applications are particularly welcome from people with a lived experience of mental illness.
2 PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT A six month temporary contract, subject to a three month probationary period. Further information about Neami Services may be found on the Neami Website: CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT The terms and conditions of employment will be in accordance with the Neami National Employment Agreement Consumer Service Delivery Level 3 Band 1 to 2 -$50,776 - $52,041 (pro rata) depending on experience. A number of conditions are available to all staff, including generous salary packaging which can increase the take home wage by more than $7,000 pa (Pro rata). Criminal record checks are mandatory for all new appointments.
3 SECTION B: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The appointees will undertake a series of tasks to complete the projects in conjunction with other members of the project team and the project plans. Specific roles and tasks will be negotiated on appointment in conjunction with the project team and may include: PROJECT PLANNING &MONITORING Contribute to the project design and implementation plans Participate in project team meetings to monitor projects are progressing in accordance with plans, timelines and budgets Ensure project outcomes support compliance with the National Mental Health Standards RESEARCH Identify relevant literature and key themes to inform the project Gather information from the field to inform development of a leading practice approach CONSULTATION Undertake a comprehensive consultation process through surveys, interviews and focus groups to ascertain consumers and staff experiences, requirements and attitudes REPORTING Prepare written and verbal reports on project progress within Neami Prepare accountability reports for funding bodies Contribute to a final report containing recommendations and implementation plan OTHER DUTIES - Project members may be required to contribute to other service development projects including the development of a consumer booklet and a quality of care reporting process. SECTION C: KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Demonstrated understanding of the mental health sector and a sensitivity to issues relevant to people experiencing mental illness who are living in the community. Demonstrated ability to work alongside people with serious mental illness and the willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the capacity to document project stages and outcomes and prepare a final report. Previous experience in project work and the skills to effectively plan and manage a project to completion. Capacity to effectively engage and consult with a broad range of stakeholder groups. Proficient computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Word. Demonstrated ability to use initiative and work to time lines.

Working with consumers to build their confidence while participating in their community. Assisting consumers to plan their own program and build their connections with their community. Assisting consumers to develop skills and competence necessary to enjoy a full and rich quality of life. A BRIEF HISTORY OF NEAMI Neami was formed in 1986, initially offering advocacy services to consumers in Melbourne s Northern suburbs. During the early 1990 s Neami worked in partnership with other community groups and the Victorian Department of Health to plan the relocation of consumers from long stay psychiatric hospitals to the community. Neami grew substantially during this time and by 2000 it became the primary provider of rehabilitation and support services to people with a mental illness in the northern region of Melbourne. In furthering Neami s commitment to become the leading mental health services provider nationally Neami expanded across the Victorian border in and commenced delivering a range of State funded rehabilitation and support services in South Australia and NSW. Strong partnerships were developed with clinical mental health teams and other community groups and rapid growth continued in the 2 years that followed. Between 2007 and 2009, with the addition of a number of federally funded programs, Neami further broadened its reach by establishing services in Western Australia and Queensland. Following substantial interstate growth, Neami secured additional funding in Victoria in to further expand and diversify its current services to include a sub acute Prevention and Recovery Care service in the northern suburbs of Melbourne.

A GROWING SUSTAINABLE ORGANISATION Neami has an exciting growth rate with increasing federal and state government funding. Over the past 6 years Neami has expanded its budget by 600% resulting in a $26 million operating budget in This has allowed Neami to grow to 12 Services in NSW, 4 in SA, 1 in WA, 2 in Queensland and 7 in VIC, and foster ambitious growth plans for the future. As a result of this growth Neami has reaffirmed its commitment to ecological and societal responsibility and has a plan for a long term sustainable future. 3. A LEARNING ORGANISATION Neami has had a long standing commitment to continuous improvement and development across the organisation, and was accredited by the Quality Improvement Council of Australia in 2004, 2007 and Neami achieved high ratings in the three core standards of Incorporating and Contribution to Good Practice, Human Resources and Finance. As part of it s commitment to ongoing learning and development, Neami has reviewed and improved its Induction and Orientation program for new staff, developed targeted training, and further developed its Leadership Development Program. Along side this; Neami s Service Development team has supported the implementation of Collaborative Recovery Model across all Neami Services. Neami s newly formed Research Committee is hard at work developing a range of research activities from outcome measures to consumer participation to checking our fidelity with the Collaborative Recovery Model. 4. A WELL REGARDED ORGANISATION Neami has a distinguished reputation, and is highly regarded nationally by the psychosocial rehabilitation sector, the mental health clinical sector and the community-housing sector. Neami is a member of VICSERV Committee of Management in Victoria, the Mental Health Coordinating Council of NSW and the Mental Health Coalition of South Australia. 5.
