1 Management of the Labour Ward Joint RCOG/BMFMS Meeting Tuesday 19 Friday 22 June 2018 Venue: RCOG, London OVERVIEW This course is suitable for any clinician who spends a significant amount of time on the labour ward, or has a major interest in risk management and clinical governance, audit and guidelines, neonatology, anaesthetics, medical disorders, to practical obstetrics skills and how to run skills and drills training in your own unit. The programme includes a variety of authoritative speakers with ample time for discussion, debate and networking throughout the course of the meeting. This meeting is also recognised for and aims to cover the theoretical component of the "Advanced Labour Ward Practice" and "Labour Ward Lead" Advanced Training Skills Modules (ATSMs), which are undertaken as a ST6/7. The courses are valid for three years, and must be completed prior to completion of the practical component of the ATSMs. Those undertaking the "Labour Ward Lead" ATSM must also complete the "Advanced Labour Ward Practice" ATSM, and should therefore attend all 4 days. Learning Objectives After this course you will: Understand the importance of promoting and maintaining normality in childbirth Have gained an understanding of the woman's perspective of birth Understand the importance of good communication and team work between the different professionals involved in birth Be confident in discussing birth outcomes with women and their partners Recognise the medically unwell, pregnant woman Have updated your knowledge in a range of practical obstetric skills Gained a thorough understanding of analgesia and anaesthesia in labour and birth Gained a thorough understanding of neonatal resuscitation and outcomes Understand the role of the labour ward lead - particularly in relation to clinical governance and risk management Why Attend? Update and advance your knowledge regarding management of the labour ward Hear about clinical governance, risk management and NPSA specifically in relation to obstetrics Days 1-3 are recognised for the theoretical component of the "Advanced Labour Ward Practice" ATSM Day four is recognised for the theoretical component of the "Labour Ward Lead" ATSM Claim a maximum of 23 CPD credits for full attendance at this meeting Who Should Attend?
