3 What do we believe? Why is the transition to middle school so important? How do you stay involved as a middle school parent?

8 Daily Schedule Morning Holding in the Cafeteria for 6th grade students Students may eat breakfast (no charge) Advisory Period (Listed as Study Topics) 2 Academic Classes Lunch 2 Related Arts CLasses 2 Academic Classes

9 Courses 4 Core Academic Classes: Math, English, Science, Social Studies Course Placement Based on Test data or parent override 5th grade teachers completed student recommendations Related Arts (all students must take PE and Foreign Language) 2 during fall semester 2 during spring semester Band and Strings are yearlong Course Change Requests: Request can be submitted, but not guaranteed due to class size/space. Must be submitted by the end of the first week (forms in guidance office). Forms can located at the table in the hall.

10 Chromebooks Beginning this year, each student will be issued a Chromebook We will roll our devices by grade level, beginning with 8th Beck will host information sessions for parents prior to the roll out

11 Agenda Every student receives an agenda free of charge Students should use this to record all assignments Parents should check agenda on a regular basis LOST AGENDA REPLACEMENT $5

12 Identification School ID Must be worn at all times First ID is free Students without ID will receive a temporary. Repeat offenses will result in consequences **Good idea to purchase a second ID to keep in their locker. ADDITIONAL/REPLACEMENT ID $5

13 Dress Code Shirts Dress Code Collars and Sleeves Solid Color (Blue, Black, Khaki, White, Pink, and Gray) Boys: Shirt MUST be tucked in Girls: Shirt must cover midriff but not past fingertip length Not Dress Code: No tank tops, spaghetti-strap or sleeveless No T-Shirts No Hoods

14 Dress Code Bottoms Dress Code Black, Navy and Khaki Pants, shorts, skirts, dresses Pants must be above waistline (belt NOT required) Leggings and tights must have shorts or skirt over them Not Dress Code White pants, shorts, skirts or dresses Denim (jeans) Sweatpants or other athletic pants Sagging Cannot tuck pants into socks Oversize clothing Tights or leggings without shorts or skirt over

15 Dress Code: Outerwear Heavy coats must be put in lockers upon arrival to grade level hall. Coats remain in lockers until the last locker break of the school day Any outerwear with a hood must be put in the locker immediately upon arrival to the grade level hall Only lightweight jackets, solid dress code colors are allowed in the classroom: black, white, khaki, pink, gray or blue If wearing a lightweight jacket or sweatshirt that meets dress code requirements, a collared dress code shirt must be worn underneath Students may wear Beck Academy sweatshirts over a collared shirt Beck Academy T-Shirts may not be worn over a Collared shirt.

17 Health Room All prescription medication must be brought to the health room in the original container by the parent, and be accompanied by the proper forms with both parent and physician signatures. Nurses cannot accept any medication without the proper forms and signatures. Over the counter (OTC) medication must be brought to the health room by a parent in the original non-expired container. There is a medication form for OTC medication that must be signed by the parent. Students are not allowed to call home or text for a health room dismissal. They must be seen by one of the nurses in the health room and the nurse will call the parent if a dismissal is required.

18 Attendance In middle school attendance is taken in every class period. A student must be present for more than half of a class period for it to not count as an absence Perfect attendance = A student is present every day for every class period Early Dismissals- send a note in the morning telling us time and who is picking up the student. They will come to the main office on their own at that time. Dismissal without a note- Ask that you wait for scheduled class change

19 Transportation Procedures Car Rider Line Enter through the main entrance and stay to the right Cars may double stack after the cones Merge every other car at the second set of cones, in front of school Pull all the way forward, DO NOT STOP in the middle of the line Parents MAY NOT park in the parking lot Bus Riders Students will load and unload busses in the back of the building Transportation will call you to tell you stop/ time Students may not ride any bus other than their assigned bus Walkers Students must have written permission from a parent to walk home Walkers must exit the campus through the doors in the back of the building immediately following dismissal.
