5 The Relationship of Nutrition and Health Bachelor of Science in Holistic Nutrition HN 301 COURSE OVERVIEW Welcome to HN301, a Bachelor Level course in the curriculum for the Degree, Bachelor of Science in Holistic Nutrition. This is a Fundamental of Nutrition course. This module examines, analyzes, and evaluates the relationship between the science of nutrition, health, and well-being. COURSE CONTENTS 1. Nutrients and their functions 2. Characteristics of good nutrition 3. Malnutrition 4. Nutrient Deficiency 5. Individuals at risk from poor nutritional intake 6. Cumulative effects of nutrition 7. Deficiency Diseases 8. Nutrition Assessment 9. Consideration for the Health Care Professional TIME FRAME This is a (3) three-semester hour course. This module is allotted 4 weeks of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the four-week period. No make-up exam will be authorized unless arrangements are made with the instructor prior to class time on the date of the scheduled exam. Any exam made up after the scheduled exam date will have points deducted from the graded score regardless of the reason. GRADING The grading scale for this module is as follows: % = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C Below 70% = Fail COMMUNICATION Students are encouraged to communicate with the instructors indicated below. 56 Clinical Practicum in Holistic Nutrition Bachelor of Science in Holistic Nutrition HN 325 COURSE OVERVIEW Welcome to HN325, a Bachelor Level course in the curriculum for the Degree, Bachelor of Science in Holistic Nutrition. This clinical practicum module is designed to assist the student s transition from novice to the entry-level practitioner. Through this clinical practicum module, it enable the student to apply previously learned theory and skills in integrated healthcare practice combining health screening, nutrition, colon hydrotherapy, Phytobiophysics Formula, etc. COURSE CONTENTS 1. Student is to conduct a physical health screening over a period of nine (9) months. Student is to present his / her health screening findings by incorporating the following: a. A short description of his / her client s history including symptoms if any b. Health Screening Reports c. Treatment protocol 2. Student is also required to draw a Treatment Protocol Standard Form outlining the following: a. Basic rules for dietary and lifestyle modification b. If supplement is recommended, student is to write down the direction for use including dosage and when to take the supplements, etc. c. If Therapy is recommended, student is to explain briefly and how this therapy can help 3. Student is to print out the Health Screening Reports for the 50 clients and compile them by using a comb binding system according to the date sequence. 4. All course work must be submitted two (2) weeks prior to the semester ends. 5. All course work will be graded according to competency demonstration e.g. knowledge, skills, and attitudes; clarity, contents and timely submission. TIME FRAME This is a (15) fifteen-semester hour course. This module is allotted 36 weeks of time. Student must complete all of the requirements for the course successfully by the end of the thirty-six weeks period. Upon successful completion of this module, you will be awarded fifteen (15) semester hours of credit.

57 EXAMINATIONS There is an examination for this module during final-term exam. The examination is "closed book" objective type. Attendance for exams is mandatory. No make-up exam will be authorized unless arrangements are made with the instructor prior to class time on the date of the scheduled exam.
