1 ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON OFFICE A recent PA graduate is sought for an orthopedic surgeon office at a top teaching hospital in New York City immediately. This full time position is offered with benefits and health insurance. Starting salary k per year. BELLEVUE HOSPITAL CENTER, We have three Inpatient Day PA positions and one night PA position available at Bellevue Hospital Center, NYU School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine. Job posting for the day position see below. The night position consists of three 13 hour shifts/week. It involves providing coverage for existing patients on the service and covering the Short Stay Unit/Observation Unit with the help of the Nocturnalist. JOB SUMMARY: The Physician Assistant is responsible for the provision of clinical care to patients/clients on the General Internal Medicine Inpatient Units (including the short stay unit ) at Bellevue Hospital Center. The Physician Assistant is responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and referral of patients as appropriate, under the supervision of a designated Attending Physician. Physician Assistants are also responsible for complying with all contractual obligations under the NYU School of Medicine Affiliation Contract with Bellevue Hospital Center and all other related duties as assigned. There are some night and weekend responsibilities. DUTIES: Direct Patient Care - average census per PA is about 8 patients. Cover a service of patients (many of whom have cardiac diagnoses); See and clinically evaluate all patients on the PA service for coverage issues; Take new admissions; Present all new admissions and challenging coverage issues with attending; Perform a full clinical evaluation on all new admissions within a few hours of admission Attend clinical rounds with attending on a daily basis Via Quadramed (our electronic medical record), writes all appropriate medication orders; Via Quadramed, orders all appropriate ancillary tests patients; Review all pertinent lab and test results; Perform all appropriate pre and post cardiac catheterization exams/studies as per Bellevue protocol; Communicate with referral providers; Complete all related duties as assigned. Documentation Write admission notes on new patients via MYSIS; Write event notes for coverage issues; Write discharge summaries on patients being discharged via MYSIS; Complete all discharge prescriptions; Complete sign-outs for new admissions and updates coverage sign-outs as needed. General Responsibilities Comply with applicable Regulations;
2 Participate in in-service education and continuing medical education (CME); Comply with the credentialing and reappointment process; Maintain license and certifications; Comply with the timekeeping methodology set by your department Complete all training programs mandated by the Health and Hospitals Corporation Notify your Supervisor of all upcoming absences in a timely enough fashion so that coverage may be obtained. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrate knowledge and ability for the provision of patient care; Demonstrate the ability to function independently; Demonstrate effective time management skills; Develop and maintain interpersonal relationships with health care team. EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor or Master Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited school; New graduates and/or with experience. LINCENSURE/CERTIFICATION: New York State Physician Assistant license and certification. NCCPA Certificate DEA Certificate PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS: Language proficiency, particularly Spanish, Mandarin or Cantonese is a plus. Establishes a presumptive diagnosis and performs a general work-up including the ordering of appropriate laboratory studies. Under supervision, is responsible for the patient s medical issues following the diagnosis. May assist medical staff with pre, intra- and post-operative surgical activities and research projects in assigned area. The successful candidate is one who: Initiates appropriate noninvasive laboratory, radiological and special examinations or tests required for the evaluation of illness. May provide pre-surgical patient care including taking extensive patient histories, giving general physicals, and submitting information to physician for diagnosis and writing pre-operative orders May serve as 1st or 2nd assistant in assigned area. Scrubs, starts IV s, monitors equipment and alerts surgeon of changes in patient s condition, and may close skin after operation. Acts as liaison between surgeon and surgical staff throughout the operation. Attends to the patient in the Recovery Room or Intensive Care Unit. May provide postoperative instructions to patients. Attends daily rounds and provides post-operative care on floor by checking for signs of post-operative complications, changing dressings, removing sutures.
3 Performs minor surgery under direct supervision. Performs clinical procedures under the direction and supervision of the responsible physician such as venipuncture, arteriopuncture and electrocardiogram. May administer intravenous medications, fluids, blood and blood components, and local infiltrative anesthetic. May administer injections I.M., subcutaneous and intradermal. May perform intradermal skin tests, nastrogastic intubation and insertion of urinary catheters. May cleanse and debride wounds. Performs history and physical examinations on patients; consults with the patient s attending physician; establishes a presumptive diagnosis and initiates the work up of the patient by ordering appropriate laboratory studies. Under supervision, is responsible for the management of the patient s medical issues following diagnosis. Assists in hospital rounds. Makes complete chart entries on patient transactions and records progress notes. Provides follow-up care including appropriate adjustment of medications for patients in accordance with established protocols or specific instructions from the responsible physician. Orders oral and parental medications for patients under the care of the supervising physician. Communicates with patients and families regarding their medical issues following consultation with the responsible physician. Provides counseling and instruction regarding patients medical issues. Collaborates with other caregivers to ensure continuity of care of patients, and to attain the greatest efficacy in the use of hospital resources in managing patients. Assists the physician as directed in the training of health personnel in diagnostic, therapeutic and clinic techniques. Participates in appropriate continuing education programs. May perform research activities including assisting at laboratory surgery, collection and reporting of data. Retrieves and reviews charts and analyzes data for research projects. Prepares and dictates patient summaries of hospitalization.
