You are invited to register on Sunday, July 21, from 5-7 p.m., and join us during that time for hors d oeuvres and refreshments at our Meet & Greet Reception. The conference will begin with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m., Monday, July 22. The general session will open with Linda McClamma, who will provide her views on how we need to work together and take ownership of our actions through accountability. Next, you will learn from Gay Hawk about the development and implementation of an effective community continuum of care for individuals with mental illness and their family members. Radio personality Kim Linder will be our keynote speaker during this year s Annual Business Luncheon on Monday. Next up is AHCA s Kimberly Smoak, who will provide insights into the newest CMS initiatives and latest regulatory updates and how they impact social Sharing Best Practices! Do you have, or have you developed and implemented, your own Best Practices at your facility? If so, our members would love to hear all about it in In Touch, the official newsletter of the Florida Health Care Social Workers Association. Send your submissions to Ian Cordes via fax at (561) , or to workers responsibilities in a nursing home setting. This session will be followed by the official opening of the trade show at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday begins with a delicious breakfast with the vendors, giving us a final chance to meet and greet our exhibitors, who do so much to support our annual conference. USF Professor Dr. Victor Molinary will kick-off the programming on Tuesday by highlighting the need to develop non-pharmacologic strategies to better address the behavioral challenges of our residents. We are so excited to have Cindy Mason back with us this year. A past president of FHCSWA, Cindy has been catapulted into a national role where she makes a difference every day. Her presentation will focus on optimizing our residents quality of life from the regulatory and best social work practices viewpoint. We will begin to wrap up our conference on Wednesday with the Annual Awards Breakfast and announcement of the winner of the prestigious 2013 Social Services Award of Excellence. After the awards breakfast, fellow social worker Julie Schatzer with the Brain Bank Program and Alzheimer s & Dementia Resource Center will offer practical, innovative interventions that are helpful when responding to someone experiencing symptoms of dementia. She will include some fun role playing and interesting hands-on strategies. Next, FHCSWA s friend, attorney Karen Goldsmith, will discuss residents rights and the vital role that social workers play in keeping a facility in compliance. On behalf of the board, I look forward to seeing everyone at the conference. It will be another outstanding opportunity to keep up with the latest information, best practices, and industry trends you will need to do the best you can for the residents entrusted to you.
