2 January Staying on Track NC FAST Update Meeting Record Keeping and Monitoring Staying on Track Presenter- Marney Donald Location- Piedmont Community College Description- Why are daily classroom routines and schedules so important in the daily lives of teachers and young children? How does following a consistent daily schedule with embedded routines support the social and emotional development of the children in your class? What can we do to help children stay on track as they move through a typical preschool day? Through this training, you will receive answers to these questions and develop a deeper understanding of the role of schedules and routines in supporting healthy social-emotional development for all children. (2 Credit Hours) NC FAST Update Meeting Presenter- PCPFC Staff; Kristine Ramsey Time- 6:00 pm 8:00 pm Location- Person County FEMA Shelter Description- Join the Department of Social Services and the Person County Partnership for Children as we review the requirements associated with the NCFAST System. This meeting is specifically designed for providers that receive subsidy. (2 Credit Hours) Record Keeping and Monitoring Description- During this mandatory Food Program meeting providers will meet to discuss record keeping and monitoring tools. (2 Credit Hours)
3 February Serious Deficiency Book Nook Serious Deficiency Description- Make plans to attend this mandatory Food Program meeting to discuss the Serious Deficiency process and your rights as a provider. (2 Credit Hours) Book Nook Description- Are Social Emotional strategies a challenge for the young learners in your care? During this training session, books that focus on the different emotions that we all experience will be presented along with strategies for making the most of social emotional awareness. Strategies for incorporating social emotional skills during center activities will be discussed. (2 Credit Hours) Cost- $5.00 for individuals employed in Person County; $10.00 for individuals employed outside of Person County.
4 March Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease (PS) Reimbursement/ Claims Process Recognizing and Responding to Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome (PS) Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease Time- 6:30 pm 9:30 pm Location- Person County Partnership for Children Description- This course is designed specifically for FCCH and Child Care Centers. This course will address ways to keep the children in your care safe from the spread of infectious disease. (3 Credit Hours) Location- Person County Partnership for Children Description- The goal of this course is to provide early educators with the information, knowledge, and tools to prepare them for various types of emergencies. Throughout the training, participants will review different types of emergencies and responses with a focus on planning and preparing for a variety of emergency situations. Through the discussion of planning, early educators will build their knowledge about what is needed to be adequately prepared to respond to emergencies. They will learn how to identify risks and identify the resources they will need. In the preparing stage, early educators will see how they will implement their planning. (5 Credit Hours) Seating is limited to 12 participants. Only 1 participant per facility is necessary. Both sessions must be attended in order to receive credit. Reimbursement / Claims Process Location- PCPFC Description- Make plans to attend this mandatory Food Program meeting to learn more about the reimbursement process as well as to discuss how claims are paid. (2 Credit Hours) Recognizing and Responding to Child Abuse and Neglect and Prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome Time- 6:30 pm 9:30 pm Location- PCPFC Description- This is a training distributed by Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina designed to help providers understand the NC Child Abuse Reporting Law; learn how to recognize and report child abuse and neglect; understand what happens once a report has been made; learn what to do if a child reports abuse; and understand how to help prevent child abuse. Information will also be covered regarding the prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome. (3 credit hours)
5 April Appropriate Precautions in Transporting Children (PS) Handling and Storage of Hazardous Materials (PS) Administering Medication/ Prevention and Response to Food and other Allergic Reactions (PS) Introduction to Leadership Building Your Leadership Skills Appropriate Precautions in Transporting Children Description- The goal of this course is to provide early educators with the information, knowledge, and tools to prepare them to transport children safely. (2 Credit Hours) Handling and Storage of Hazardous Materials Description- This course is designed specifically for FCCH and Child Care Centers. This course will address ways to keep the children in your care safe from hazardous materials. Participants will review proper storage and disposal methods. (2 Credit Hours) Administering Medications and Responding to Food and Other Allergic Reactions Time- 6:30 pm 9:30 pm Description- This session focuses on DCDEE rules and general statutes when administering medications. This course will also cover the proper methods for responding to allergic reactions. (3 Credit Hours) Introduction to Leadership- Building Your Leadership Skills Time- 1:30 pm 3:30 pm Description- This course is designed specifically for Directors and Administrators of Child Care Programs. Participants will develop administration and leadership skills and knowledge within a culturally sensitive and ethical framework by defining what leadership is and helping administrators identify their leadership strengths and needs for specific situations, as well as building their knowledge and skills emphasizing strengths and improving areas of need. Both sessions must be attended in order to receive credit. (5 Credit Hours)

Participants will develop administration and leadership skills and knowledge within a culturally sensitive and ethical framework by defining what leadership is and helping administrators identify their leadership strengths and needs for specific situations, as well as building their knowledge and skills emphasizing strengths and improving areas of need. Both sessions must be attended in order to receive credit. (5 Credit Hours) Time- 1:30 pm 3:30 pm Location- Person County Partnership for Children Description- The goal of this course is to provide early educators with the information, knowledge, and tools to prepare them for various types of emergencies. Presenter- Marney Donald Location- Piedmont Community College Description- During this session, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of healthy social emotional development in young children, factors that influence behaviors, and causes of challenging behaviors in young children. A variety of activities will help participants understand each component of the Pyramid Model and how it can be used to promote healthy social behaviors and prevent challenging behaviors in preschool classrooms. (2 DCDEE contact hours) and Response Planning Location- PCPFC Description- The goal of this course is for early educators to build their knowledge about what is needed to be adequately prepared to respond to emergencies. Participants will learn how to identify risks and identify the resources that they will need.
7 June Building and Physical Premises Safety Part 2 (PS) Leadership Strategies Leadership in the Field Leadership Strategies Leadership in the Field Inclusion Building and Physical Premises Safety Part 1 (PS) Building and Physical Premises Safety Description- The goal of this course is for early educators to build their knowledge about what is needed to have a structure and physical environment that are adequate and safe for the children in their care. (4 Credit Hours) Both sessions must be attended in order to receive credit. Leadership Strategies- Leadership in the Field Time- 1:00 pm 3:30 pm Description- This course is designed specifically for Directors and Administrators of Child Care Programs. Participants will develop administration and leadership skills and knowledge within a culturally sensitive and ethical framework by applying ideas and strategies learned to facilitate change, engage families, and communicate a progressive vision of early childhood. Both sessions must be attended in order to receive credit. (5 Credit Hours) Inclusion Description- During this course, participants will discuss what is meant by embedded interventions to promote participation in inclusive settings. Participants will also apply decision-making processes to help a child participate more fully in an inclusive setting through embedded interventions. (2 Credit Hours)
