1 January 2012 NJ State Council ENA Committee Minutes Present: Sign-in sheet on file Approvals 1. Attendance 2. Agenda 3. Minutes 4. Introductions Executive Reports President Pat Nierstedt TOPIC DISCUSSION ACTION The meeting was called to order at 16:15 by NJENA President, Pat Nierstedt. Agenda and minutes presented. See attached report Quorum present. Minutes reviewed and approved. J Hoelz moved to accept and J Trivett second. Vote= 18 yes, 0-No, 0-Abstain Introduction of New Jersey Executive Board. Introductions of all present National ENA s 2012 Initiatives & Strategic plan presented. List of 2012 meeting dates & Code of Conduct distributed. Discussion of Leadership conference Update on State Leadership Core Role Groups Any correspondence must include the newly revised ENA logo available online ENA.org\online resources There is a logo for the State & each Chapter. Pat will link. State and annual reports due to National by Jan 31 State & Chapter officers are encouraged to participate in the ENA online orientation webinar. ENA Lantern Award application due Feb 29. Proposed bylaw amendments and/or resolution for September GA due March 2. Contact resolutions committee for assistance. Michael Moon is NJ Liaison Contact MDMoon@ena.org Mentoring for successful transition is in progress for Treasurer and President. March State meeting at ECC will showcase our accomplishments Each chairperson/chapter president will submit a 2011 summary report & 2012 goals for the PowerPoint presentation. 1
2 See attached report Treasurer Barbara Conicello/Kathy Findlay Committee Reports Kathy Findley discussed information regarding an audit. An audit would be very expensive however it was suggested to do a review of standard procedures to assure our fiscal affairs are in order. Motion made by B Miller to approve treasurer report as submitted second by K Donges. Vote= 18 yes, 0-No, 0-Abstain Chapter treasurers are requested to send expense reports to Barb by end of April. Request made by Peggy McMahon to have updated W9 on website David Greenberg will do this. K. Findlay will follow up on the review of standard procedures. Education/ECC James Hoelz Finance James Hoelz Injury Prevention Cheryl Newmark Pediatric Linda Curtis Trauma Dawn Specht 112 registrants ahead of last year registrants. Program brochure mailed early. 44 vendors to date. 24 posters. Breakfast location revised along with exhibitor hours. Pre-session registration in Havana Tower. Boardwalk Empire is theme for Thursday night s party. Finance report almost complete will post on website. Presented profit and loss statement profit higher than predicted due to successful 2011 ECC.. R Bennett, National TNCC/ ENPC work group - reports that ENPC tentative release date is mid-summer. Beta skills testing at Leadership. Call for TNCC workgroup went out yesterday. 2011: 29 courses with 251 attendees. R Bennett reviewed the process to bridge from ENPC instructor to TNCC instructor or vice versa. Must be eligible and then attend instructor course with exception of adult learner module and micro teaching. Faculty or designated qualified instructors (by Chairperson) may monitor new instructor. 2011: 45 courses with 561 attendees Room monitor and faculty please register for ECC. P McMahon requests that this process in NJ be organized & published. A recommendation was made for D Specht and L Curtis to publish the process for who may monitor new ENPC & TNCC Instructors. It was also requested that TNCC/ENPC meetings or conference calls be held- and suggests an on- site meeting for instructors/course directors during ECC. Pat will discuss with chairpersons. J. Hoelz does have available meeting space at ECC. 2
3 Report submitted Government Affairs Workshop in Washington DC this weekend - will include tour of White House. Several NJ legislative contacts are scheduled for Day on the Hill. Conference call held Jan 18 th Issues both will address with NJ legislative representatives is EMSC funding, behavioral health, & access to life saving drugs Liz will send out links for research webinars. Conference call Jan 29 th 1pm please join. Need all LCD projectors for ECC. Motion made by J Hoelz to obtain program from Gail and if not possible then purchase new. Second by B Conicello. Discussion. Vote= 18 yes, 0-No, 0-Abstain. Deadline for submission for NJENA Awards January 27, ECC scholarship due by February 24, Scientific Assembly scholarship applications due by July 15, Encourage members to apply for academic scholarships. Gwyn has offered to assist with writing applications for awards. K Donges, B McFarland and D Specht attended Elmer Hospital Lantern Award recognition program. Info will be on the ENA website shortly See TNCC/ENPC report Jackie has requested that State & Chapter checks for Foundation be brought to New Orleans General Assembly voted to support IOM report Apply to EMINENCE to get assistance from an expert FAEN member. Encourage to submit posters to Scientific. Info on website shortly Encourage everyone to apply for scholarships Investigating residency programs for nurses and future role of staff emergency nurses. 4

Bennett Strategic Plan P.Nierstedt Standards/CMS expectations Liz Whetzel Pharmacy Industry published report Mary Kamieski See above report The NJ ENA Strategic Plan presented. Discussion regarding increasing expectations and standards for ED to meet compliance. Also concerns regarding electronic documentation and representation by ENA. Discussed only DEA license can access this report can find out if a person is accessing multiple controlled substance prescriptions. Doctors have to register. Pharmacy who distributed meds to persons have to submit. Recommended that we begin search for NJ leadership position nominations Looking for Program and Exhibits Chairpersons for ECC 2013 Taking nominations for 2013 Emergency Department Nurse Leader of the Year Anne Stefanoski has agreed to work on SOP s with Tim. Suggested each Chair review their committee SOP. Recommendations made, report accepted with changes. Pat will incorporate changes and attach to minutes. Plan will be on website. Pat will discuss with Michael Moon to determine National views on this matter. Informational Elections Call for officers in May with election in August.
