McKinley Syringe Pump training for Beginners This is a hands-on course, its focus an introduction to the use of the T34 syringe driver for the novice. The session will cover all aspects of the T34 Syringe drivers use in practice. It is a practical hands-on competence based session. 3 Level 1 & 2 Competency Understanding the spiritual dimension of care and building communication with patients.. Assessment Oral assessment outside the teaching session. Verification of Death training This session is for trained and untrained staff, who verify death as part of their role. The training applies to ward, the community and nursing homes. It will include local policy and demonstration of the practical skills necessary. 4 Essential Elements in Palliative Care for Community Nurses ONLY This is a three day course run by our Clinical Nurse Specialists covering: Common palliative symptoms Palliative care emergencies Concept of pain Management of pain Communication End of life symptoms and planning The course is only open to trained nurses working in the community. More Essential Elements (1 day course) This course is for trained nurses working in the community. On applying for this course a questionnaire will need to be completed to see suitability for attendance. 6 the administration of controlled drugs. An overview of the training is as follows:- To understand what is a Controlled drug (CD) incorporating the legislation that surrounds CD s. To understand the role of the second checker (CW) To identify the components that constitutes a correctly completed prescription chart To understand basic principles of drug administration To be competent in basic drug calculations. To understand the requirements for accurate record keeping To be assessed as competent against a Competency Framework. McKinley Syringe Driver UPDATE McKinley T34 Syringe Driver Update Do you feel a bit rusty, this session is for you It is a hands-on session and update re the use of the T34 Syringe pump. It assumes you have previously attended a beginner s session and/or have used the T34 syringe driver. It will include an overview of its use, setting up and trouble shooting in the use of the T34 Syringe pump. Drugs used will also be included. Communication Skills Part 1 Exploring the basics. What is communication? Are verbal and non verbal elements important? Does how we listen matter? How do you ask patients questions, does it matter? Asking the open and closed question. What is palliative care communication about? Communication Skills Part 2 Applying the skills of part 1. Exploring what is bad news? There will be practical consideration of how in practice professionals can communicate effectively -difficult issues / bad news? This will be achieved by creative strategies exploring how your skills and support of patients can be developed. Role play will not be used.
