1 Dear Applicant I am very pleased to invite you for interview at Leeds Beckett University for a place on our BA (Hons) Social Work course (UCAS course code L500). The date and time of your interview have been communicated to you via your UCAS Track account. On the day of your interview please report to The Gateway Pods, Ground Floor in Calverley Building at City Campus, at least 20 minutes before your allocated interview time. For details on how to find Calverley Building, please follow the link below: We expect that applicants come dressed appropriately for an interview on a professional course. Whilst we appreciate you may be accompanied to the University, there will not be space for additional people (e.g. relatives, friends) in any of the sessions. The City is a very short walk away, and there are University catering facilities in the Leslie Silver and Rose Bowl buildings. You will have an individual interview with a member of academic staff that will last approximately 20 minutes, followed by a written test. The day will end with a group discussion with service users and Social Care professionals. You should plan to be at your interview for the full day and you should make travel arrangements accordingly. What to do now: Due to the number of applications we typically receive, it is now very important that you accept or decline our invitation to interview via your UCAS Track account. You will not receive a copy of this letter through the post. Failure to respond will result in your UCAS application to this course being withdrawn. If you have any special needs or requirements in attending the interview, please us at ucasadmissions@leedsbeckett.ac.uk as soon as possible. What to prepare in advance/bring with you on interview day: You will be required to discuss your Social Work/ Social Care experience at interview. If your UCAS application contained an academic reference (i.e. from your School/College/University Tutor), you will be required to bring with you on the day of your interview a reference from the Social Care organisation where you have been or are currently working/volunteering. You should use the reference pro forma provided at the end of this letter. It should be completed by your referee, signed and stamped with an official company stamp (or printed on company letter head if no stamp is available). If you provided a Social Care reference on your UCAS application, please arrange for your academic referee to complete the attached pro forma and bring it with you to your interview. Failure to provide a second reference (in addition to the one on your UCAS application) at your interview may result in your interview being cancelled.

2 Please bring with you evidence of your highest academic qualifications to date (A Levels, BTEC, Degree) and evidence of GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths. Only original certificates are acceptable. Please bring with you original photographic identification (Passport or Driving Licence). Please ensure that the photograph is recent enough to recognisably identify you. Again, failure to provide these documents at interview may result in your interview being cancelled. Please note that in line with the course requirements, all successful applicants for Social Work courses must be in possession of a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure Certificate check as well as a successful medical fitness check, before commencing on the course both are processed through Leeds Beckett University. 3 The Social Work Bursary The Social Work bursary was introduced by the Department of Health as an incentive to train in social work. In 2013 the Department of Health changed the way social work students are funded and the Government has indicated that they will review the continuation of the bursary for social work students. Universities have been awarded a finite number of bursaries by the Department of Health, and both undergraduate and postgraduate Social Work students who apply for a bursary are no longer guaranteed to receive it. Undergraduate students will not receive funding in the first year of their studies but may be eligible for a Bursary in years 2 and 3. Postgraduate students may receive a bursary for both years 1 and 2 of the course. All students, irrespective of whether they receive a bursary will be entitled to a Placement Travel Allowance (PTA). Postgraduate Bursary (MA Social Work) In accordance with the Department of Health guidance, following the selection process all candidates who have accepted the offer at a place at Leeds Beckett University will be ranked in order of priority for a Social Work Bursary. The rank order is obtained by totalling the scores awarded to each applicant during the interview and selection process. The names of those candidates will be sent in rank order to the NHS Bursaries team. Whilst Leeds Beckett University rank candidates on the basis of their performance at interview, the NHS Bursaries team will assess candidates for their eligibility for a bursary. You may be offered a place on the course but may not receive a bursary. You are advised to consult the NHS Bursaries website (see link below) for further information on the application process. Undergraduate Bursary (BA Social Work) In accordance with the Department of Health guidance, undergraduate students will be prioritised for a bursary at the end of the first year of their studies. Prioritisation will be based on: Those students who have successfully passed the first year of their studies including the readiness to practice component. (Professional Capability Framework) Students who have demonstrated their active engagement with the course and demonstrated a commitment to the values of social work and HCPC Code of Ethics for students. Whilst Leeds Beckett University rank candidates on the basis of their first year performance, the NHS Bursaries team will assess candidates for their eligibility for a bursary. You may take up a place on the course but may not receive a bursary. You are advised to consult the NHS Bursaries website (see link below) for further information on the application process.

4 What happens next? Outcome following the selection day If you are successful following your attendance at the selection day, we will process an offer of a place on the course via your UCAS Track account. If you are unsuccessful, we will also notify you via your UCAS Track account. Accommodation You can apply to live in University accommodation from 1 February 2018 as long as you have selected Leeds Beckett University as your firm choice. Further details about the accommodation the University has to offer and how to apply can be found on our website: Disclosure and Barring Service/Health checks If you select Leeds Beckett University as your firm choice, we will send you further details shortly before the start of your course about completing a DBS (formerly Criminal Record Bureau) enhanced check and the occupational health screening questionnaire. Instructions on completing these checks will be sent to you via , so please ensure you notify us of any changes in your contact details.
