2 About the Program WHY IS STAFF STABILITY IMPORTANT? Stable nursing facility staffs are familiar with resident routines. This increased awareness helps provide better care. Stable staffs develop stronger bonds with residents and staff. Keeping the same staff means less time spent to orient new or temporary staff about resident care routines. This means fewer care interruptions. In today s world of constantly having to do more with less, are you unnecessarily spending too much money recruiting and training staff just to have them leave? Do you know exactly what staff instability is costing your nursing center in terms of time, money and quality? Tools exist that can help you have solid data. Come learn what tools you can add to your toolbox, what is causing this never ending cycle and things to consider when developing a plan to address it. In this session, you will learn how to develop a plan for implementing strategies to correct turnover and instability in your nursing center. About the Presenters Gail Patry, RN, is Chief Program Officer for Healthcentric Advisors. Healthcentric Advisors is a nationally recognized not-for-profit healthcare quality improvement and patient safety organization. In addition to serving as the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) contractor for the state of Rhode Island, Healthcentric Advisors is engaged by national and local government agencies and other private and community entities to provide evidence-based consultation, education, tools and resources. Ms. Patry has more than 30 years of work experience in healthcare and quality improvement. As Chief Program Officer, she is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the QIN-QIO program for New England including staffing and fiscal management. She also is responsible for development of new business opportunities. Ms. Patry s experience includes leading both local and national projects in topics such as pain management, pressure ulcer prevention, and organizational culture change. Marguerite M. McLaughlin is Senior Director of Quality Improvement at AHCA. There, she pursues her passion for improving the lives of residents living in long term care centers by developing educational resources, tools and products for staff. Ms. McLaughlin is an enthusiastic educator and trainer working both locally and nationally to support change in healthcare. Her 30 years of experience - at Saint Elizabeth Home, the Alzheimer's Association and the Quality Improvement Organization in RI - have provided her with unique insights and "boots on the ground" experience in helping organizations improve their care and service to their residents.

The North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association is a Registered Sponsor of continuing education with the NC State Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators.
