State Agency Directors Panel CEUs: ALL Learn the Condition of the State and how it effects long term care, assisted living and home health care. State Agency Directors and Department Heads, will review the State s current policy and the direction that future State policies will likely go. Each panel member will have an opportunity to discuss the important issues that their departments face on long term care policy and issues. The emphasis is on relationships in the care rather than task-centered approaches that focus on physical health of elders. This session will review how participants in a variety of interdisciplinary programs designed to maximize the participation of the elders they serve in interventions that promote meaningful engagement and cognitive stimulation related to assessed strengths and cognitive challenges. Strategies for Successful Operationalizing Infection Prevention & Control CEUs N, ADM, ALMC This highly interactive session will review user-friendly, realistic strategies for a successful Infection Prevention and Control Program. The presenter will take you through key process items from systems, assessment process, tracking-- to making sense of your process! The information provided will help you assess your current system to make sure it is up-to-date on best practices and quality expectations. Managing the Impaired Provider CEUs: ALL Would you know what to do if you suspected substance abuse? Substance abuse occurs across all generations, cultures, and occupations, including health care professionals. This session will review how to assess the impact of impaired staff member on patient safety; describe behaviors that indicate a person may be working while impaired by drugs or alcohol; and summarize the actions to take when you suspect a colleague is practicing while impaired. Are My Co-Workers Aliens? Working with Different Personalities in Healthcare CEUs: ALL We all have days that we think our co-workers are from another planet. Chances are more likely you aren t speaking their language. Staying motivated to reach your full potential and remain engaged requires adapting how you communicate to meet the other person at their comfort zone. This session teaches you how to meet the other person on their terms, so you ll be certain your message is received loud and clear. Individualized Engagement Activities for People with Dementia CEUs: ALL This fast-paced session will assist you to evaluate the current provision of activity programming within your community and provide strategies to enhance programming for individual engagement. A variety of successful strategies will be offered for scheduling one-to-one and small group activities. Antibiotic Stewardship: Key Clinical Strategies for Successful Outcomes CEUs N, ADM, ALMC, HH Health care organizations are expected to develop and implement robust antibiotic stewardship programs that adhere to best practices and CDC guidelines. This presentation will walk you through the specific components and expectations of the new antibiotic stewardship requirements and how it impacts your operation and clinical systems.

6 Day TWO March 28, 2018 TOPIC DESCRIPTIONS Assisted Living Policy s Review SS, N, ADM, ALMC Your assisted living policies and procedures form the basis of a successful community where care and services are of the highest quality. This session will review many important policy s that assisted living facility s handle daily including: admission and discharge, falls and head injuries, death of a tenant, motorized carts, home health care and hospice, sexually relations between tenants, elopement and more. Unstoppable Healthcare Teams Improving Communication, Connection & Effectiveness CEUs: ALL Great healthcare teams do not just happen, they are the result of leaders who consciously cultivate excellence and empower those they lead to live up to their fullest potential. This session explores how great leaders think and act, how to foster an atmosphere of collaboration and unity, how to manage time and creative tools for hiring great people. Adding Music to Your Activity Programming AP This session will assist caregivers on how to provide musical experiences that will help the individuals they serve reach their highest possible functioning level. This audiencefriendly, interactive session will engage participants in developing and providing musical activities that provide orientation to special holidays and events throughout the year. There will also be a discussion on providing appropriate group and 1 to 1 music programs specifically designed for people who suffer from dementia. Disease State Management SS, N, ADM, ALMC, HH As the health care delivery market continues to reform itself, size and efficiency become important issues for providers. New models of clinical care delivery are evolving, including disease-specific practice. Post-acute care providers are key in new or revised clinical models. Join this presentation to gain a further understanding of the top three disease states that are currently included in the new models of clinical care. Iowa OASIS Education Coordinator Update for Home Health - CEUs: SS, N, ADM, HH Iowa s OASIS Educational Coordinator, Maribeth Freland will provide an OASIS update to home health care providers which will include the new one clinician rule, how to use OASIS to gather data for QAPI, comprehensive assessment updating, agency record keeping, pay-for-reporting performance requirement and more. Maximizing Tomorrow s Reimbursement Today CEUs: SS, DH, ADM The Medicaid MCO s are required to implement P4P for up to 50% of the service populations what does it mean for LTSS? Medicare Advantage plans have enrolled nearly 25% or more of eligible beneficiaries. How will that impact contracting with Coventry, Humana, and UHC? Medicare Part A is implementing payment withholding and 2 types of new payment plans are closer to finalization. How will that effect SNF reimbursements? This session will provide historical information in addition to explanation of several of these models and discuss the potential short and long-term impacts. Psychological Impact of Losing Independence-ALL Many people lose independence to one degree or another due to aging, mental health conditions, and other health-related challenges. This presentation helps participants understand the psychological impact loss of independence has on the individual and their family members. Meeting the Activity Challenges of a New Generation CEUs: AP, ADM, ALMC This interactive program will provide caregivers with ideas and strategies for satisfying the needs of a rapidly changing population. Discussion will focus on developing a team approach to the provision of meaningful activity and the benefits of a wellcoordinated, interdisciplinary program of activity designed to engage and divert, particularly in cases where challenging behaviors are being addressed. Critical Thinking Skills for Root Cause Identification and Analysis CEUs: ALL Patient safety events can cause serious harm or death. To address and prevent these threats, health care staff must dig deep to unearth the root cause(s) and develop solutions that address the problems from a systems perspective. Participants will understand root cause analysis as a procedure for ascertaining and analyzing the causes of problems to determine what can be done to solve and prevent them in the future. LUPA Rates and Medicare Cost Reports for Home Health CEUs: SS, N, ADM, HH The state of Iowa is going through a rebasing of the Medicaid home health LUPA payment rates that will likely result in decreased payment rates for home health providers. This session will provide an overview of the methodologies used by the state to rebase the LUPA payment rates and will identify potential impacts in the future. We will also discuss how the Medicare cost report can be a helpful tool for internal analysis of the impact of these rate changes on your agency s financial performance.

7 Day TWO March 28, 2018 TOPIC DESCRIPTIONS Capitol Visit and Legislative Advocacy ALL This session will start with a review of the current legislative bills and what they mean to Iowa s long term care profession and how they may affect you and your facility/organization. Following the briefing, we will take a trip to the State Capitol where you can take the opportunity to visit with your legislators and explain to him/her your position on a particular bill. Talking points will be provided. Programming with Purpose How to Supercharge Your Activities CEUs: AP, ADM, ALMC Many Activity Professionals love their work and the residents they serve but feel the calendar is getting a bit stale. Some struggle to create high-level social experiences within lowlevel budget constraints. This inspiring presentation will help activity professionals discover new ways of thinking about their role in the organization and provide examples of specific programs they can implement right away to enhance their activity calendars. Towards Better Behavior Effective Person- Centered Care Planning CEUs: ALL This session offers a framework for the development and implementation of practical, non-pharmacological interventions for addressing challenging mood and behavior issues. Discussion will focus on how to achieve effective assessments and using the information to create a person-centered plan. Strategies for ongoing evaluation, redesign and quality monitoring of therapeutic activity interventions will also be discussed. Quit Putting Out Fires Creating Staff Accountability & Autonym CEUs: DH, N, ADM, ALMC This session will help leaders understand how to empower their staff to be more autonomous and accountable, both for the purpose of developing self-sustaining employees, and also to allow managers to devote more attention to strategic development of their department or organization. Hone skills that managers can implement right away to start improving individual and team results. The New Home Health Care CoPs Preparing for Success Part I CEUs: SS, N, ADM Now that the COPS and survey protocols are in place, this session will discuss how we have adapted, become compliant, and completed these standards in the most efficient manner possible. We will provide a step-by-step check off with templates that ensure you are meeting the regulations. New CMS Requirements for Legionella CEUs: N, ADM, ALMC To reduce cases of Legionnaires disease in health care facilities, CMS now requires healthcare facilities to develop and maintain water management policies and procedures to reduce the risk of growth and spread of Legionella and other opportunistic pathogens in building water systems. This session will identify what Legionella is, where it is found, how it infects people and the symptoms and consequences of contracting Legionnaires Disease. Using Laughter Yoga to Amplify Wellness CEUs: ALL Laughter is the best medicine. Using an innovative method called Laughter Yoga, which was developed by a medical doctor and is currently being practiced in over 70 countries around the world, people of all fitness levels can laugh contagiously for extended periods of time. Discover the surprising benefits of laughter, experience the rib-tickling joy of Laughter Yoga and learn how to design laughter-based activities in this interactive session. Caring Well for People with Mental Illness ALL Mental and emotional distress is a common problem among older adults who live in long-term care settings. Late-life mental illness and threats to mental health too often trigger a downward spiral of disability. This program will review signs and symptoms of mental distress and illness, which is the first step in resolving problems. Strategies to assess common disorders, adjust the environment, adapt care approaches, and use interventions to enhance comfort, function, and involvement in meaningful activities will be reviewed. Legislative Issues Why Do I Need to Understand? Why Do I Need to Be Involved? ALL Tight budgets, increased regulatory oversight, workforce issues are all reasons you should be concerned about how local and state officials are dealing with these issues. There has never been a more important time for you to be involved with legislative advocacy. Gain a basic understanding of the legislative process and health care policy advocacy so that you can make sure your voice is heard loud and clear. The New Home Health Care CoPs Preparing for Success Part II CEUs: SS, N, ADM This session will be a continuation of the presentation from education session 5.

8 Speaker Bios Eric Collett, Principal and Owner of A Mind For All Seasons, LLC, is a nationally recognized speaker, consultant and dementia expert, a licensed ALF administrator, and a teacher at Boise State University and the College of Western Idaho. Eric passionately believes that lifelong learning is a key to finding powerful new solutions to significant challenges and has spent nearly 18 years changing lives through innovative dementia care techniques and leadership strategies. Sarah Ennis is the founder and President of SparkPoint and has devoted the last 20 years of her life to helping organizations, leaders, and teams unleash their vast potential and thrive in their respective fields. She has consulted with small and large organizations across the globe and continually delivers exceptional results for each client she serves. As an educator by trade, Sarah has a passion for teaching others and helping others achieve their goals. Julie Gibbons, BSN, RN, CIC is the Manager Infection Prevention and Control at UnityPoint Health -Des Moines, a 700 bed, threehospital health system. She is a registered nurse nationally certified in infection prevention and control and is also a certified improvement advisor. Her career in infection prevention officially began in 1998 at a small rural hospital in Iowa. Her background includes process improvement and infection prevention and control for a variety of health care settings including a rural hospital, home health care, hospice and public health. Stacy Hejda is Owner/Vice President of Regulatory Compliance with Assisted Living Partners. She has over 15 years of experience working with assisted living programs in Iowa. Stacy currently serves as the President to the ICAL Board of Directors,and is a member of the ICAL Payment for Services Committee, and is Chairperson of the ICAL Quality Committee. She represented Iowa as a NCAL Future Leaders of America. She received her Assisted Living Management certification in Sarah Kneisler, RMT/NHA has more than 35 years of experience in long term health care and is currently the owner of Senior Innovative Solutions where she serves as a speaker and consultant. Sarah has spoken for organizations and conferences in 36 states and at past Pioneer National Conferences. She has been employed as a Registered Music Therapist, Activity Director/Volunteer Coordinator, Life Enrichment Coordinator, Assistant Administrator and Senior Director of Life Services. Louann Lawson, BA, RN, has 40 years of long term and acute care experience, and has been an active member in the health continuum. As a registered nurse, Louann has held multiple clinical and leadership positions that provide her with extensive experience to support and to grow clinical teams. As a Pathway Health consultant, Louann is an educator who has successfully trained hundreds of professionals regarding MDS/Medicare/Medicaid processes, clinical quality initiatives, and reimbursement protocols. Annette Lee RN, MS COS-C, HCS-D, is a registered nurse practicing since 1990, with the majority of her nursing experience in public health care, and her Master s in Health Care Administration. In 2000 she joined the home health intermediary Cahaba GBA where she became a sought after instructor, providing education to home health and hospice providers on Medicare reimbursement issues and effective documentation strategies. After nearly a decade working for the intermediary, she began Provider Insights, Inc., a Home Health Care Consulting Company. Bill Nutty, Vice President of Governmental and Regulatory Affairs at Iowa Health Care Association is a licensed attorney in the state of Iowa. Bill represents IHCA on Capitol Hill and monitors proposed rules and advances the Association s position on proposed legislation by attending hearings and submitting comments. Bill is a member of the Iowa Bar Association and the American Health Lawyers Association. Sandy Peno RN, CIC is a registered nurse at Unity Point Health Des Moines. Her career has spanned over a 40 plus year period, beginning in 1974 as a student nurse. She has held numerous positions including staff nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager of urology/renal transplant/surgical unit, and Manager of the Employee Health, Safety and Workers Compensation Department at Unity Point Health Des Moines. In 1996, Sandy joined the Infection Prevention Team and has been nationally certified since Lauren Schieffer is a Certified Speaking Professional through the NSA and IFFPS. Able to relate to and energize everyone from the custodial staff to C-Level executives, Lauren is a master storyteller, delivering insightful, inspirational and relevant content that empowers people to absorb and act upon what they ve heard and she does so in an entertaining manner with a dry sense of humor that keeps them chuckling while they re learning. Mark Sharp, CPA, is a Home Health Care & Hospice Center of Excellence Coordinator with BKD. Mark has over 25 years of experience assisting home care and hospice providers with audits, strategic planning, accounting, cost reports, projections, operating budgets, corporate integrity, agency start-up and mergers and acquisitions. Barbara Speedling, is the Quality of Life Specialist for Innovations for Quality Living. Barbara provides staff education and program development designed to satisfy a broad range of special needs. Guidance is offered to community, residential and long-term care service providers in the development of programs and services to improve the care of individuals with Alzheimer s disease and related dementia, mental illness, brain injury and complex psychosocial needs. Barbara began her career in long-term care in recreation therapy, later specializing in the development of environments and programs for people with dementia and mental illness.

9 Speaker Bios Jeffrey Steggerda, CPA, is a Reimbursement Consultant and President of Brighton Consulting Group. Jeff has worked in the long term care industry since He began working with IHCA in 1993 as a Reimbursement Consultant. His roles for IHCA have included creating and maintaining several informational databases to support the quality, finance, and data objectives of the association. Lisa Uhlenkamp, RN, BA, LNHA is a nurse consultant with Assisted Living Partners. Lisa works with assisted living programs to assist them with regulatory compliance issues, as well as, providing in-services to assisted living programs. Prior to joining ALP, Lisa was the Director of Quality Assurance for a large nursing home company and the Director of Quality and Clinical Service for IHCA. Lisa s nursing experience includes acute care telemetry, hospice, MDS coordinator, director of nursing and nursing home administrator. Jo Ellen Whitney is a senior shareholder of the Davis law firm, having obtained her degrees (B.A., magna cum laude, and J.D.) from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Jo practices primarily in the areas of labor and employment law, healthcare law, privacy, and fair housing. In the area of labor and employment, Jo assists businesses with policy and contract development, human resources planning, disciplinary and termination issues as well as regulatory compliance and litigation matters. Teddy Widdel was an Art teacher for 24-years and then suddenly found herself in the healthcare industry. She became a Wellness Coordinator and Activity Director and a for a large seniors care center in Iowa. During her new career she became interested in Laughter Yoga and the benefits it brought to the seniors she care for. She recently started her own company to pursue her passion to help others enjoy their life through her laughter presentations and motivational stories. CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS: Refunds will only be granted to those who cancel their registration for the program in writing 3 business days prior to the event.
