Content includes, but is not limited to, identifying and practicing within the appropriate scope of practice for health care providers, demonstrating correct medical procedures for various emergency situations, proficiency in the appropriate instruments used, as well as foundation of anatomy and physiology. 3 Content Standards / Academic Goals : By the end of the course, you must demonstrate the ability to: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Medical Professionals, discuss medicolegal ethical concerns, and identify / use body substance isolation equipment and procedures, and identify critical incident stressors. 2. Verbalize importance of airway management, perform artificial ventilation, rescues breathing, and recognize and treat respiratory distress 3. Conduct a complete patient s assessment, recognizing immediate threat to life injuries / illnesses, and recognize entrapment situations. 4. Perform basic life support, recognize and control bleeding and shock 5. Identify and provide initial care for a sick and / or injured patient 6. Identify and care for patients who are in special situations, assist with emergency childbirth, and utilize the appropriate treatment modalities by age group 7. Provide triage to victims of multiple casualty incidents 8. Successfully completed the necessary hours for hands-on experience per the NREMT requirements 9. Use technology in health care through my computers modules 10. Communicate effectively as part of the health care team 11. Demonstrate proper dre4ss attire in health care 12. Actively participate in my HOSA chapter and community 13. Demonstrate an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of Medical Professionals in different fields, discuss medicolegal ethical concerns, and identify / use body substance isolation equipment and procedures, and identify critical incident stressors. Grading Policy: Students will be graded on their consistent demonstration of proficiency of the content standards for the course. If needed, students will receive interventions when necessary and have multiple opportunities to demonstrate proficiency. As students complete the intervention activities and demonstrate proficiency, the I s will be replaced in Pinnacle with the students most recent grades. If a student doesn t show proficiency in one or more of the content standards, the results will be an I (in progress); this will turn into an F if proficiency is never met. Students have to accomplish all Content Standards to earn course credit..

Click on Parents & Students 3. In the Application box on the left, click on the Gradebook icon. Pine Ridge High School will use the VCS grading scale for summative assessments of content standards: Grade Range Quality Points Description A Outstanding Progress/Mastery B Above Average Progress/Mastery C Proficiency D Passing I In-progress Students who score less than 60% on an assessment will receive an I ( in-progress ) on their interim or report card. I s will be changed appropriately (A, B, C, D, or F) by the end of each semester. Formative work (including, but not limited to, class work, homework, quizzes, essays, presentations, and projects) will be used as tools to gauge each student s progress before the assessments. Students must complete at least 70% of formative assessments before they will be allowed to attempt the summative assessment. Progress on formative work will be recorded using M (Mastery: = %), P (Proficiency: 70-89%), I (In-Progress: 0-69%) and Z (work to be made up). Submission and Make-Up Policies: Students are to adhere to all deadlines when submitting formative and summative work. Students not submitting work by a set deadline may be given an alternative assessment. Any student needing to make-up work during school hours can arrange a time/day with the teacher, or attend a scheduled success session or AEL during after-school hours. Students may elect to re-take an assessment, if they score a B or lower on any assessment. Re- Assessments must be completed within 15 school days. Students are required to create and submit an intervention plan (along with the teacher) to demonstrate they are ready to re-take an assessment by the end of the 15 day period. Students are allowed to retake one Summative per 9 week. If a student scores lower on a re-assessment, the lower of the 2 grades will stand as the final grade. Success Sessions: It is the responsibility of the student to seek assistance during office hours when having difficulty in a class. Office hours are available everyday except Wednesdays.

5 Honor Code: In an effort to maintain academic integrity, students are responsible for completing, producing, or turning in their own work. Students found to be in violation of completing, producing, or turning in their own work may receive a discipline referral and be subject to any and all discipline action. Students who are members of special programs, academies, clubs/groups, or sports teams may receive additional consequences. Cheating is a Level 2 discipline infraction and will result in a referral. Students who are caught cheating will receive an I on the assessment/assignment and will be required to complete academic intervention before being allowed another attempt at demonstrating proficiency. Classroom Expectations: As a student in this classroom, you are held to the following general rules and the code of conduct established by PRHS and Volusia County Schools: 1. Please be ON TIME every day to class. You should be in the classroom when the bell rings. 2. Please participate and complete all assigned work (worksheets, projects, discussions, etc). 3. Act responsible and mature at all times and behave appropriately. 4. Respect all individuals, and their opinions/beliefs, within the classroom setting. 5. Please put ALL electronic devices out of sight/away (I-pods, Cell Phones, Electronic Games, etc.). HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) Student Organization: Students enrolled as ACADEMY members are required to affiliate with our national student organization HOSA. HOSA members gain leadership skills, service opportunities, and competitive event skills through participation in various events, meetings, and activities.
