2 Description This conference will enable health care professionals and community professionals to update their knowledge of current evidence-based practices related to cardiovascular disease necessary to improve clinical practice and ultimately patient outcomes. In addition to a plenary session, participants may choose sessions with either a clinical (Track 1) or community (Track 2) focus. Track 1 sessions will provide updates on advances in emergent care of cardiac arrest and treatment of patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure and arrhythmias. A novel intervention model focused on prevention of premature natural death will be presented. Track 2 sessions will offer updates on community response to cardiac arrest, substance abuse prevention, behavioral health risk and cardiac arrest, nutritional supplements and evaluating athletes for risk of sudden death. Target Audience Military and civilian cardiologists, cardiac internists, family medicine and primary care physicians, emergency physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, athletic trainers/coaches, law enforcement, EMS, Fire and Rescue, educators and other community professionals. Objectives Upon completion of this educational activity, the participant will be able to: Identify and integrate various state-of-the-art treatments and emergent interventions for cardiovascular disease. Describe the implications of cardiovascular disease and treatment outcomes. Discuss current evidence based guidelines for prevention, detection, rhythm and rate management, and stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation. Integrate into practice and evaluate effectiveness of a community based premature death prevention model. Assess athletes for congenital defects and risk of sudden cardiac death.
