So she made a significant gift that will help Oakwood involve and empower women through all stages while guiding them to good health and well-being. The Multi-Specialty Women s Center will provide an integrated and personalized approach to women s programs and services, including breast cancer, cardiac counseling, urogynecology, menopause services, gynecology, oncology, genetic counseling, immunology, bone health, reconstructive services, mental health services, diabetes management, and exercise and nutrition. I ask myself, What can I do that can stop this so that people may not have to lose a loved one, to face what I faced? Giving is my answer.

Lesley daniels After a freak accident on February 21, 2013, Lesley, a school bus driver in Flat Rock, was rushed to Oakwood Hospital - Southshore, where both of her legs were amputated above the knee in order to save her life. GIVING TOMORROWS: Randy and Toni Kowalski With their children Robert, Michael and Marisa, the Kowalski family s gift to benefit Oakwood Rehab Trauma Care helps patients recover from serious, life-altering accidents or events. At the Kowalski Street Community Simulation Center at Oakwood Hospital - Taylor, patients practice real-life actions and activities cooking, driving a car, banking, going to a store or restaurant to help them overcome physical and cognitive challenges and make their transition back into society smoother. Randy and Toni have also given generously to the Oakwood Family Center (home of the Center for Exceptional Families), now the Michael and Estela Ferrantino Building, in honor of Toni s parents.

Dr. DEREK BAIR Neonatology We will continue to LEARN through the enhancements in education and research. In health care, the stream of new insights, medical techniques, training methods and research is virtually endless. The GIVE TOMORROWS campaign will enable us to provide everyone at Oakwood with the most useful knowledge and leading-edge skills, all in the name of exceptional care. It will help fund the latest training, certifications, scholarships and clinical research which is vital to every member of our talented clinical care teams. And thanks to generous, caring donors, a comprehensive learning and innovation institute within Oakwood is being developed. Of the 450 babies cared for in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit each year, more than 120 are born 3.5 lbs. or less.

15 GIVING TOMORROWS: Drew Besonson After receiving successful medical treatment at Oakwood for an old football injury, Drew Besonson decided to help those who help others. Through his generous investment in the advanced certification of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurses, we can help more than 450 of our tiniest patients each year who fight bravely for every new day. The certification is considered the gold standard in patient care and must be renewed every three years. Drew hopes every nurse at Oakwood is afforded this opportunity. You never envision things happening this way, but the Oakwood doctors and staff made it so much easier. jennifer chopp, with AVA, who was born September 2012 at 1 lb. 10 oz., in the 27th week of Jennifer s pregnancy. Ava spent eight weeks in the Oakwood NICU.

17 Give Tomorrows lets donors contribute to a very important movement toward healthier communities. Carla o malley Oakwood Foundation President We will forge partnerships that help the community. Whatever we give to the community in which we live, work and play, we get back a hundredfold. Unfortunately, our community s access to health care is anything but ideal. To solve this problem, we ll proudly forge partnerships with locally-based corporations, not-for-profits and individuals. Through these partnerships, we ll give those most in need in our community especially the poor and the elderly health, wellness, prevention and treatment programs; screenings; transportation; equipment and supplies. At Oakwood, we re enormously proud of our great community, and pledge to help keep it healthy and strong for many tomorrows to come.

GIVING TOMORROWS: Donald and Mary Kosch, and daughter Abigail Their generosity is making many tomorrows better for children with special needs. Donald and Mary Kosch, owners of the Dearborn Sausage Company, have donated significantly to the Oakwood Center for Exceptional Families (CEF). Within the CEF, the Kosch Multidisciplinary Clinic is where professionals from various disciplines come together to provide comprehensive care and support to families of children with significant health, rehabilitative and psychosocial concerns.

20 Now in our sixth decade of giving tomorrows. On January 5, 1953, Oakwood began caring. Today, we re among the largest employers in Wayne County, with four acute-care hospitals and over 65 medical clinics and facilities providing care to over 30 communities in metro Detroit. Though ours is a multi-billion dollar system, the most valuable dimension of the Oakwood experience has no price tag and cannot be quantified. It s the compassion and dedication of our people, a diverse group of physicians and staff from four different continents who have come together to do great things and give many tomorrows any way they can.
