1 KANSAS HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE 2009 Emerging Innovations for Improved Access and Integration of Quality Health Care July 14-15, 2009 Sponsors: KU Center for Telemedicine & Telehealth Midwest Alliance for Telehealth & Technology Resources Kan-ed

2 : KANSAS HEALTH INFORM Technological advances are often transformative, completely changing the context in which they are used. Health information technology (HIT) may soon rise to this standard. Health information technology includes a wide range of telehealth, health information exchange (HIE), e-health and other technologies for delivering health care and managing health information. Today, it is commonly viewed as one of the most promising developments for improving the overall access, quality, safety and efficiency of the health delivery system. Thus, the implementation and management of HIT is one of the paramount concerns to the global health care community. Yet staying abreast of the rapid advances in these innovations and making sound financial investments in HIT can be challenging. Fortunately, Kansas has been a leader in HIT for many years and continues to advance the front edge of its development. This conference is designed to continue that tradition by providing participants with a wide variety of expertise and experiences that can be applied in your own organizations. The important operational, clinical and financial considerations for leveraging HIT, particularly in rural areas, will be the focus of the discussion. OBJECTIVES At the conclusion of the conference, participants will be able to: 1. Describe the current range of HIT applications in a variety of contexts. 2. Assess and apply HIT advances and lessons learned to own practice/organization. 3. Understand the clinical, operational and financial aspects of HIT in rural areas. 4. Plan for the next generation of HIT applications. TARGET AUDIENCE Hospital and clinic administrators, IT management, EMS personnel, county public health personnel, physicians, nurses and other clinical providers and strategic planners at all levels HOTEL All events will take place at the Hilton Wichita Airport Hotel, 2098 Airport Road, Wichita, Kansas. A block of rooms has been reserved until June 29 at the rate of $119, plus tax. To take advantage of this rate, make your reservations by calling (800) or (316) Be sure to mention the Kansas HIT Conference or HIT. After June 29, room availability and rate cannot be guaranteed. All sleeping rooms are non-smoking and have complimentary wireless internet access. The Hilton Wichita Airport Hilton Executive Conference Center is located in west Wichita at Mid-Continent Airport, one-eighth mile from the terminal building. One mile south of Highway 54/400 and Ridge Road intersection.
