1 OGLALA LAKOTA COLLEGE NURSING DEPARTMENT ANNUAL IEP PLAN: AY (Date Revised: 06/03/2016) VISION STATEMENT The Nursing Department will have resources in qualified faculty to increase and mentor the development of tribal nursing faculty to promote Wolakolkiciyapi. The department will encourage academic progression to obtain BSN and higher degrees with the purpose of disease prevention and health promotion of the native peoples. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the nursing department is to provide academic excellence that will prepare an Associate Degree nurse to respond with relevant knowledge and skills to meet healthcare needs of individuals and families as an entry level nurse. STRATEGIC GOALS STRATEGIC GOAL 1: Increase NCLEX pass rates to 85% or higher. Objective 1.1: Examine entrance criteria for appropriate rigor (Reading TEAS score) Objective 1.2: Develop motivational curriculum for success labs Objective 1.3: Continue to secure financial support to attend classes STRATEGIC GOAL 2: Maintain SD Board of Nursing approval by Fall Objective 2.1: Work on collecting student artifacts and course files Objective 2.2: Work on self-study with scheduled completion by August 2016 STRATEGIC GOAL 3: Develop plan to increase exposure of OLC nursing program to neighboring tribal communities, in the attempt to recruit qualified applicants by May Objective 3.1: Distribute informational brochure to neighboring tribal communities Objective 3.2: Prepare business cards for all nursing faculty for distribution Objective 3.3: Participate in career fairs Definition of ATI (Assessment Technologies Institute) is a program of tutorials, education manuals (paper and online), online real life scenarios, practice testing, and nationally normed exit exams. Currently utilized by a vast majority of the nursing programs within the state of South Dakota in an effort to better prepare students for their NCLEX examination.

3 Associate of Arts in Nursing Program Learning Outcomes: PLO 1: Apply knowledge of nursing process and critical thinking as a framework for clinical decision making. PLO 2: Demonstrate cultural competency and caring behaviors for the purpose of providing culturally appropriate nursing care to diverse populations. PLO 3: Incorporate professional/ethical/legal accountability into practice, embracing the values of the profession and assuming the various nursing roles of life-long learner, teacher, client advocate, leader/manager, and care provider. PLO 4: Utilize evidence-based practice and technology to provide safe, competent, holistic nursing to clients across the life span. PLO 5: Communicate and collaborate with client, family, healthcare and interdisciplinary teams to provide holistic health care and promotion/disease prevention.

DEPARTMENTAL STRATEGIC GOAL Increase NCLEX pass rates to 85% or higher. (Desired) STRATEGY OUTCOME PERFORMANCE INDICATOR (used) ASSESSMENT METHODS Results Analysis of Results Use of Results/ Responsible Will continue to track individual results and overall effectiveness of standardized exams (ATI) for assessing readiness to progress. Also continue to encourage student participation in tutoring and success labs. Students must complete standardized exit exams in course where these are available, and complete remediation. Standardized exit exams (ATI testing)

5 Will continue to administer RN predictor exam to determine readiness to successfully complete NCLEX. Virtual ATI tutoring completed with green light achieved. Faculty/Chair will continue to utilize and monitor Virtual ATI as one tool for remediation of students not ready for NCLEX, to predict and further assist students. Will continue to monitor cohorts and look for TEAS correlation; Continue to find ways to increase Students must complete RN predictor exam with 95% probability of successful NCLEX completion. Students who do not complete RN predictor exam with 95% probability of successful NCLEX completion on first attempt. Number of students who achieve 70% on TEAS reading, and number of those students who ultimately pass NCLEX on Standardized exit exams (ATI testing) Standardized exit exams (ATI testing) Of cohort of applicants that take TEAS, determine # =>70%; follow cohort

Achieve 80% or better average on examinations in each nursing course. Perform clinical assignments at satisfactory level and complete all clinical assignments.(n218, N223,N226,N317, N324,N328) Terminal Outcome 2: Demonstrate cultural competency and caring behaviors for the purpose of providing culturally appropriate nursing care to diverse populations. Student will be evaluated with whom he/she will be working with in a Capstone course, functioning in the RN capacity, where the various roles will be evaluated, and the student will be prepared for readiness for real-world experience as an RN.(N324) Perform clinical assignments at satisfactory level.
