1 North Herts Hospice Care Association Job Description Job Title: Education and Practice Development Lead Band: 7 Responsible to: Responsible for: Accountable to: Liaises with: Director of Patient Services Staff working specifically in education and practice development. Director of Patient Services Senior Leaders Team, Senior Sisters, Team managers and team members across the organisation. External partners in the acute trust, PCT, local Hospices and University of Hertfordshire Job Summary: The Education and Practice Development Lead plays a lead role in developing best practice in palliative and end of life care and contributing to the delivery of education, training and continuing professional development of staff and volunteers across the organisation and the wider workforce. The post holder is responsible for: - Developing and implementing an Education Strategy across the organisation. Leading on development and implementation of internal and external education initiatives across the hospice. Working closely with all external education stakeholders and clinical teams. Development and management of the mandatory training programme for staff and volunteers across the organisation. Co-ordination and reporting of mandatory training attendance for the staff and volunteers across the organisation with the support of an administrator. Development and co-ordination of an effective induction programme for staff and volunteers across the organisation. Implementing evidence and competency based practice across all clinical teams. Implementing the Health Care Certificate. Working with the with the Palliative Care Consultant to jointly develop and deliver the in-house education programme 1 August 2016
2 Working with Human Recourses to produce an annual Training Needs Analysis of staff and volunteers. Education budget management. Sharing learning from incident reporting and complaints Chairing the Education Steering Group. Working as a member of the Clinical Team Leaders Team Attending and contributing to relevant education consortiums 1. Management To develop and implement an Education Strategy across the organisation To manage the staff working specifically in education and practice development. To support the Nurse Champions in their roles and delivery of education action plans. To chair the Tissue Viability sub group. To liaise closely with the ABC project team across Hertfordshire. To liaise closely with all team leaders to promote the on-going commitment of the whole team to personal and professional development and education. To support the volunteer manager with implementing role profiles and competency assessments. To support relevant projects as identified to include the deployment of systmone electronic patient records. To develop and sustain strong partnership working with other local hospices, Primary Health Care, Hertfordshire Community Trust and East & North Herts NHS Trust. To attend and contribute to the work of the Beds & Herts Palliative Care Education Group To work closely with all external education stakeholders and clinical teams. To represent the organisation on appropriate committees/working parties at both local and network level. To chair the GHHC Education Steering Group Meetings. To oversee education resources including equipment, journals and purchase of books. 2 August 2016
3 To produce a costed annual Training Needs Analysis of staff and volunteers. To manage the education budget. To work as a member of the Clinical Team Leaders Team. To work with the Human Resource Manager, Director of Patient Services and CEO to build quality and capacity into the Hospice workforce 2. Education To work with the Consultant in Palliative Care to develop and deliver an in-house education programme for both staff and volunteers. To provide a robust external training programme based on identified need of stakeholders. To ensure staff are competent to provide safe care and meet the needs of the patients and services by:- - supporting the Practice Development Nurse in developing up to date competency passports for clinical staff and volunteers. - rolling out ongoing competency training programme for clinical staff and volunteers. To be responsible for the development, co-ordination and recording, with the support of an administrator, of mandatory training for the staff & volunteers across the organisation To develop and roll out e learning programmes to support mandatory training. To provide and when appropriate to deliver specific training programmes for all staff across the organisation and externally. To participate in the delivery of formal teaching programmes/sessions for team members of varying disciplines working within the GHHC, NHS organisations and other independent sector providers. To assist team members with planning courses for professional development and act as a resource, mentor/assessor as appropriate. To be responsible for the placements of pre and post registration nurses at GHHC. 3 August 2016
4 To work in the clinical areas as required to influence and monitor practice. To disseminate information about training/education opportunities throughout the organisation and externally. To be responsible for the development and co-ordination of GHHC Induction, in liaison with team managers. To share learning from incident reporting and complaints To identifying education opportunities to further support patient and cares (informal and formal) 3. Professional Development To maintain own personal and professional development. To remain updated in clinical and professional developments. To take part in annual appraisal and review process. To support revalidation of nurses with NMC. To support the development and implementation of clinical supervision. 4. Additional Responsibilities There is a requirement to participate in the Senior Nurse On Call Rota There is a requirement to work clinically when staffing levels cannot ensure the safety of patients or at times of an emergency. There is a requirement to comply with all the hospice policies, procedures and guidelines, including those relating to Health & Safety, confidentiality and the Data Protection Act, as required by Information Governance. Each member of the hospice team has a responsibility to contribute to the clinical governance programme. Each team member to take appropriate action to maintain the highest level of infection prevention and control. 5.
