Main activity: Other activity General activities: Other Other activity: Collecting & analysing relevant old and new field and published research evidence; and promoting research into the causes of adverse health impacts from environmental sound and vibration energy, with a particular focus on frequencies below 2 Hz. Much is already known about the adverse health impacts of acute and chronic exposure to infrasound and low frequency noise, but has been forgotten or ignored, only to be rediscovered by those who do not have anything to hide. Crucial developments have included finding relevant old research such as the Dr Neil Kelley/NASA body of work from the 198 s presented to the American Wind Energy Association conference in 1987 which demonstrated the direct causation of annoyance symptoms from wind turbine generated infrasound and low frequency noise; expansion of the research and clinical evidence of vibroacoustic disease outside Portugal (Taiwan & German); and increasing awareness of the significant body of research relating to vestibular disor 13. 3 We are in regular communication with other similar organisations and scientific researchers around the world. We are regularly approached by residents suffering serious & cruel health problems. We write submissions to government inquiries. When invited and if possible, members of the Foundation have appeared at planning panel hearings and community information meetings relating to new wind project applications. We have developed a high quality website to bring together all relevant information. All information is freely available to the general public. There is no other website in the world offering this information relating specifically to environmental noise and health. We encourage relevant departments of health, noise pollution regulation and planning to investigate reported problems, and to develop better guidelines to protect the health of the public. We support calls for governments to investigate those developments which are non-compliant with their planning approvals or noise pollution regulations. The relatively small amount of donations received in nearly four years operation has come from rural residents as far as we can tell and sometimes are made in response to a direct call for support by the Foundation for a particular purpose. The Foundation s officers operate entirely pro bono from their homes. 14. Is your charity going to change the way it pursues its charitable purposes in the next financial year? Rural residents who are already suffering serious & cruel health problems and facing abandonment of their homes as they cannot endure the constant pressure of noise and vibration inside their homes, especially at night. Sleep disturbance is the most common reported adverse health event around the world in residents exposed to intrusive night time environmental low frequency noise pollution, and is consistent with the disease Environmental Sleep Disorder as described in the World Health Organisation s Report Night ise Guidelines for Europe. The WHO 29 Report states: Environmental Sleep Disorder (of which noise-induced sleep disturbance is an example) is a sleep disturbance due to a disturbing environmental factor that causes a com Page 3 of 5
