7 Residential Care Services Superior Care works extensively with nursing and residential care providers to assist in delivering care without interruption. Independent care homes often call on us in the event of sickness, holidays or planned leave. National care organisations and charities use our services on a regular basis during recruitment drives and staff training. As an independent provider with local branches and dedicated account managers, the clients that we work with enjoy the personal service and attention to detail that we invest in our relationships to ensure that specific needs are met. When you approach Superior Care, our aim is to ensure that we respond on time, every time by providing care which is delivered by care workers who have the skills, training and experience required to undertake the duties you call for. Trained carers and senior carers, support workers and nurses. Free staff profiles supplied; inductions arranged for pre-booked and regular assignments. Assignments from four hours. Last minute cover provided. Assignments covered as soon as they are received and either covered or a status update provided within one hour of your initial call. Locally managed out of hours service. 7

9 Learning Disabilities and Supported Living Each of us is individual; we take enjoyment from different things and have different goals. Superior Care provides a support service for adults and children with physical, learning and sensory disabilities which we adapt according to your own circumstances. Key features: The support plans we produce are developed on an individual basis. Our experienced managers and assessors will spend time with you to discuss your own goals and how we can support you to achieve these. At all stages in your support we will work with you and your support network who may include your family and advocates, to ensure that the service we provide is tailored to your needs. We work with you to recruit support workers who you are comfortable with and you can rest assured that they will have undergone a thorough screening and training programme. Visits can be arranged according to your own needs but can last for as little as one hour. Services include: Support which aids you to live independently, safely. Assistance for clients wishing to establish and manage their own home. Assistance with personal care and health promotion. Providing support for you to access educational and career opportunities. Accompanied outings and holidays. Assistance with social and community integration. 9

11 Homecare Most of us hope to live in our own homes for as long as possible. Superior Care provides a homecare and companionship service which supports people to take control of their futures whilst continuing to live independently. Whether you require an hour s visit or 24 hour live-in support, Superior Care can tailor a solution to meet your needs. Needs assessments Superior Care employs a team of homecare specialists who are appropriately trained to discuss your needs and to develop a care plan according to your own circumstances. We pride ourselves upon providing care packages which support you to maintain your privacy, dignity and independence. Services Superior Care provides an extensive range of services which support you to maintain your independence in your own home as well as those that aid you to keep up the activities you most enjoy. Services which can be adapted to your requirements include: Personal Care to help you with all aspects of your one to one care and hygiene including getting up and going to bed, bathing and dressing. Domestic Care Services to support you with any of your day to day household tasks including light housework, shopping and overseeing the maintenance of your home. Additional Services include escorting you to appointments, planning trips out or providing night time companionship. Funding options There are a variety of funding options which our homecare specialist will provide advice about. Superior Care is an approved KCC provider and supports clients funding their care with the Kent Card and direct payments as well as privately. 11

12 Continuing Care Superior Care provides an executive led service for adults and children with complex healthcare needs arising both from neonatal trauma and acquired injuries. The division is managed and all packages are overseen by our director and head of continuing and specialist healthcare Sarah Lambert who, as a trained nurse, has a number of years experience of establishing tailor made, nurse led care packages. Superior Care s continuing care services extend beyond those of conventional domiciliary care providers; all of our care packages are overseen by a director or nurse manager and teams are recruited for the individual needs of our clients as well as being drawn from our extensive bank of retained, trained personnel. Lead nurses and carers are allocated to care packages and bespoke training is provided by senior clinicians and doctors. We provide a fixed price service which includes all of the costs associated with the recruitment and training of a care team and the ongoing management of your care package. Superior Care manages all HR issues, meaning that you can focus on your own needs rather than those of your support team. Professionals We work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to deliver care packages which centre on the needs of our clients. Partners Superior Care works and our services are crafted to interface with partners who include primary care trusts, case management firms, catastrophic injury lawyers and insurers. We understand the importance of early intervention to minimise the dependency on long term care. Outside of the box services Whilst many of us think of the care that is delivered in peoples own homes, in residential care or in hospitals, Superior Care also provides services to clients whose primary purpose is not to provide healthcare but who do so as a by-product of their activities: Schools. 18 Our History The company s founders, Stewart Thorp and Sarah Lambert, met in Two years before, Stewart s younger sister, Katie, had been involved in a major road traffic accident which saw her hospitalised for two months followed by an eighteen month period of residential rehabilitation during which she learned to walk and talk again. In 2003 a plan was made for Katie to return to her family home with the support of a twenty four hour care team. At that time, Sarah, who qualified as a nurse at Nottingham University Hospital in 1996, managed the local branch of the national care provider that went on to support Katie at home. In the ensuing three years Stewart and Sarah worked with a team of care workers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, neuropsychologists, case managers and lawyers and, in that time, identified an opening for a new care provider to bridge the gap between the single branch homecare agency and national organisations. Consequently Superior Care was founded in Whitstable in 2006 and further offices were added in Folkestone and Maidstone in The rest, as they say, is history... 18

20 Our Care Team Who we employ Amongst our team we have a considerable number of experienced personnel: Carers. Senior Carers including NVQ3. Support Workers (including challenging behaviour). Trained Nurses including RGN s, RMN s, RNLD s and RCN s and other extended skills. Community Carers. Recruitment standards We adopt the highest standards and apply the most stringent recruitment procedures. Each applicant is interviewed at one of our branch offices where their skills and experience are identified and verified. Candidates must be able to demonstrate through hands-on experience and training that they are proficient in any care discipline that they might be required to undertake during the course of their work duties. Enhanced CRB disclosures are undertaken and placements are offered only once an acceptable disclosure is received. Enhanced CRBs are updated annually. Written references are sought from two professional referees, including the applicant s current or immediate past employer. Qualifications are verified. Applicants are required to provide a complete employment history and prove that they are eligible to work in the UK. All employees participate in a comprehensive training programme and a formal induction which includes a thorough explanation of Superior Care s policies and procedures plus a staff handbook relevant to their position. New to care From time to time we receive applications from candidates who demonstrate a clear passion for the care industry and who have an abundance of common sense but who do not have relevant experience of working in a professional care environment. Superior Care encourages the introduction of enthusiastic care workers to our team and, periodically, we select individuals who are new to care to join us. All new to care candidates undergo a comprehensive training programme and a course of shadowing which is organised with the support of a number of our clients; for clients that work with us to develop the skills of applicants there are a number of benefits including a free pair of extra hands and the opportunity to cultivate and develop the future workforce. 20

22 Our Care Team Training Each of our branches has accredited trainers and all mandatory training is completed in-house. As standard, all care workers participate in: Moving and Handling. Safeguarding. First Aid. Health and Safety. Safe Handling of Medication. Dealing with Violence and Aggression. Fire Awareness. Infection Control. Food Hygiene. Trained Nurses undergo extended training which includes Basic Life Support and we provide tailored training programmes according to the needs of individual clients. Superior Care retains a clinical education partner whose training is delivered by doctors and senior clinicians. 22
