2 CORPORATE REGION OFFICE OF THE CEO DRIVER (PAY ZONE B1) SALARY RANGE (R pa R pa) REF: CORPCEO0114/ To provide effective transport to the CEO, Company Secretary, Board members and other staff members at the CEO S office to and from the designated destination or location as well as to make deliveries of mails and board packs timeously in order to achieve the objectives of the company. Ensure the vehicle is fit for the road by undertaking and logging routine checks of lights, tyres, oil, water etc. reporting any defects to maintain the safety of driver and passengers. Collecting and sorting all deliveries to make most efficient use of the service, for optimum efficiency and safety. To drive in accordance with the South African traffic laws, and take responsibility for the vehicle, including security and the completion of relevant paperwork to provide a safe and efficient service. To ensure cleanliness of assigned vehicles at all times when in use or otherwise and that the vehicle is good conditions before use. Safe and timely transportation of freight from origin to destination as well as the payment of traffic fines for all the NHLS vehicles timeously. Ensure renewal of car licenses and payments of traffic fines of all the cars within the NHLS are done timeously. To provide assistance with collecting and delivery of mails for corporate office for effective service delivery. To be in charge of the storeroom in the CEO s office, such as stock taking and replenish to ensure safekeeping and that updated information is maintained. To carryout periodic checks on the assigned vehicles to determine maintenance needs and report accordingly and timeously. To ensure all vehicles reports are done on a monthly basis and submitted on or before the scheduled date e.g. to indicate vehicle fuel, service cost. To assist in other duties within the CEO s office as assigned by the immediate supervisor when not undertaking transport and delivery facilitation. To receive and verify goods to ensure that suppliers adhere to special delivery requirements. To capture all goods received on the procurement system to ensure payment of suppliers. To oversee the management of stock in order to ensure continuity of supply to the laboratories. To ensure that all stock requested by laboratories is delivered and dispatched as per schedule to maintain accurate and timeous delivery. To take stock according to NHLS policy in order to manage stock levels from a financial and rotation perspective. To liaise with suppliers and laboratory staff in order to resolve queries/requests timeously. To organize the layout of the stockroom to prevent stock from expiring so that financial wastage to the organisation can be minimized. To provide all details of new items to the procurement department for loading onto the system to facilitate ordering and payment of suppliers. To monitor the assets in the various laboratories to ensure all assets are accounted for according to NHLS policy. 6 OFFICE OF THE COO SANDRINGHAM PERSONAL ASSISTANT TO THE CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER (PAY ZONE C2) SALARY RANGE (R pa R pa) Ref: CORPCOO 0114/ Manage the COO s diary to ensure that all meetings and commitments are properly scheduled, well planned and that the COO is informed at all times. This responsibility extends beyond office hours (including when the COO is on national or international visits) to ensure schedules are sorted out timeously and early notifications are received by the COO. Receives, screens and actions: o o internal correspondence and telephone calls from senior staff within the NHLS by self initiated responses to managers, marked for the COO s approval or advised changes external correspondence and telephone calls as appropriate and indicate priority for the COO s attention to ensure prompt and accurate responses whilst minimizing the COO s time spent on correspondence. Assists in the collating of information for all reports, documents requested by -, or presentations to be prepared for the NHLS, such as: o o Annual Report for NHLS, Monthly reports and presentations to the EXCO by obtaining the information as far as possible, consolidating, doing research where needed on the internet or databases for information or presentation details and compiling the documents for COO approval to ensure that the COO has all the accurate material at hand to peruse and advise on or sign off. Manage financial and budgeting systems records for NHLS Operations which includes: o o obtaining and supplying the finance department with quotes and string codes, CAPEX items, to ensure compliance to requirements strong liaison function with the Finance Department and area managers with regard to all financial and budgeting system information and reports, to ensure that all information is correct, relevant well understood and well received Planning and coordinating of travel related aspects: o o o Plan and co-ordinate all travel arrangements for the COO, provide travel agents with accurate and complete itineraries and check results against authorized requests for the COO and for all guests to the Department. Independently solving all related problems that may occur to ensure hassle-free travelling for the COO and guests. Coordinating and making all necessary arrangements for obtaining VISAS, confirmations of bookings, making of payments and funding arrangements and providing the COO with a travel file upon departure from containing all the relevant and needed documentation and information for the trip and visit, neatly arranged and clearly marked to ensure that all information is at hand and correct. Assist area manager secretaries in ensuring that all relevant documentation is submitted and that documents are duly signed by the COO. Liaise with the internal department regarding matters relevant to each department. Submit information relating to department when requested Supervise the leave taken by members of staff to ensure compliance to requirements. Monitor registrations to professional bodies and accrual of CPD points for COO to ensure the process and opportunities for obtaining CPD points is managed sufficiently and effectively. 6

9 CHEMICAL PATHOLOGY AUTOMATED LABORATORY SUPERVISOR (QUALITY ASSURANCE) (PAY ZONE C3) SALARY RANGE (R pa R pa) REF: GAUCMT0114/ ( ) Responsible for the upkeep of all aspects of the quality system of the laboratory, including the regular review of Standard Operational Procedures, in order to ensure compliance with all SANAS accreditation requirements Liaise with SANAS on behalf of the Department with regard to all aspects of: an updated Laboratory Accreditation schedule, audit dates, fees submission, etc Update the Laboratory Analyte Referral list (methodologies, reference ranges, referral sites etc) to ensure accurate reporting data as well correct records of any changes Develop, maintain and review the Laboratory Manual and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) database on Q-pulse (as well as maintenance of all document folders on site) to ensure that contents are aligned with current laboratory practice and that documentation is appropriate and reflects current practice within the Business Unit. This includes updating the QA material/data/documents on the Laboratory s Electronic (shared) files Develop and maintain a system to control and distribute current SOPs in accordance with laboratory policy and to ensure compliance with ISO criteria Undertake regular intra and inter-departmental technical audits to assess effectiveness and ensure continued improvement of the quality system in line with ISO and other regulatory body requirements Liaise with the regional Quality Assurance meetings and co-ordinate annual management review meeting to ensure continued system and corrective action of non-conformances raised Supply Monthly QA reports to Laboratory management (Lab manager, Quality Assurance Division and Business Manager) Track and monitor the clearance of non-conformances within the department Attend Quality Assurance meetings and co-ordinate Department s annual management review meeting to ensure continued self-assessment Provides input to safety representative to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with all safety legislation Assists with the optimization of each batch of reagents, guided by manufacturer s instruction and personal experience, to ensure the quality results Oversees the validation, evaluation and set up of new methods and equipment and maintenance of records Oversees all aspects of Quality Assurance within the laboratory, including (but not limited to) daily Internal Quality Control, Inter-laboratory Comparisons, External Proficiency testing, Measurement of uncertainty, calibration and equipment maintenance to ensure the delivery of quality results and the implementation of timeous corrective action as and when required Assessing and overseeing all aspects of the relating to Internal and External Quality Control materials, to ensure appropriateness to the laboratory s requirements (e.g. monitoring lot numbers, expiry, correct storage, stock adequacy, ranges, updating of ranges, calculation of own laboratory ranges etc) Responsible for the annual procurement of proficiency testing programmes and the prompt delivery thereof Oversees the preparation, delivery to and timeous analysis of EQA material within the respective areas of the laboratory Responsible for the collation and timeous submission of EQA data to the respective Assessment authorities Responsible for the interpretation of all Internal QC data including the interrogation the Levy-Jennings charts, patient moving averages, etc (on analysers and middleware) External QA reports: immediate and regular liaison with Senior Laboratory Management (Supervisors, Lab Managers, Pathologists) with regard to the results and corrective actions Generate regular LIS work file enquiries to monitor outstanding work within the laboratory and to take corrective action as required Responsible for the training and development of medical technologists and medical technicians in the technical aspects of the laboratory tests performed within the unit to ensure that they are adequately skilled in line with the laboratory s needs Responsible for the training of medical technology students to ensure that they are technically competent in the work performed by the unit in order to pass the relevant examinations Performs the role of a medical technologist as required in accordance with operational needs. 10 CHEMICAL PATHOLOGY DAY WARD NURSE (SPECIALIST) (PAY ZONE C3) SALARY RANGE (R pa R pa) REF: GAUCMT0114/ ( ) Draws blood for testing at various locations as required using safe and correct procedures Interprets blood results in order to calculate and prescribe anticoagulants in order to provide safe monitoring of anticoagulation of patients Performs the aspiration of body fluids from potentially malignant tissue for cytology to allow proper diagnosis to be completed Administers and monitor dynamic function tests e.g. glucose tolerance tests, pituitary stimulation tests etc. to ensure reliability of results and patient safety Observes the physical condition of patients during testing and applies sound nursing practices in order to ensure the safety and comfort of patients Keeps records of specimens collected and ensures that all patient details and clinical information is accurately recorded Provides general nursing services as required, from time to time, such as emergency fist aid, assisting with immunization and the administration of general tests Provides nursing services to NHLS staff (where applicable) such as all required injections, managing needle stick injuries, taking blood pressure, glucose checks, hepatitis screening etc Checks stock levels of all collection materials and orders additional stock to ensure the availability of required materials at all times Implements sound housekeeping procedures to ensure a safe working environment in accordance with legislation and all safety protocols. CHARLOTTE MAXEKE TERTIARY SOMATIC CELL GENETICS (HAEMATOLOGY) MEDICAL SCIENTIST/MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST (X3 POSTS) SALARY RANGE (R R pa) (PAY ZONE DEPENDS ON EXPERIENCE) REF: GAUCMT0114/ ( ) The teaching and training of employees in laboratory skills and health sciences so that they have better skills, knowledge and understanding to provide improved and effective health care Involved in routine Molecular testing i.e. PCR, Sequencing, FISH AND Chromosome analysis Be concerned with basic and applied research in line with the strategic objectives of the department and the laboratory, in order to improve knowledge, provide conceptual thinking and understanding of health related issues Be concerned with research and development to assess the appropriateness of tests, to improve existing laboratory tests and to develop new tests and techniques in order to optimize and improve the provision of diagnostic and identification of service Be concerned with identifying and solving applied information technology development and data mining, technical problems related to routine laboratory testing and R&D so that an efficient and effective service is provided and accurate and reliable research is carried out ; operational problems(e.g. relating to epidemiology and surveillance) so that root causes are understood in order to implement appropriate solutions Be concerned with Total Quality Management of the laboratory which involves the implementation and monitoring of systems to ensure accurate and reliable results Be Concerned with the application of specialized knowledge to diagnose disorders, disease and pathogens or vectors of pathogens, and where necessary provide consultation, so that appropriate treatment and control methods can be provided/ implemented.
