1 First Responder FIRE 116 Fire Training Certification Course Outline COURSE IMPLEMENTATION DATE: September 2016 OUTLINE EFFECTIVE DATE: September 2016 COURSE OUTLINE REVIEW DATE: April 2021 GENERAL COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course develops pre-hospital care and CPR skills for professional first responders or those wanting to become first responders. Course teaches techniques for sustaining life, preventing further injuries, and caring for illnesses and injuries until the next level of medical personnel arrives. Includes CPR level HCP and AED. Successful completion of this course earns a Canadian Red Cross, 3-year certification in First Responder, CPR HCP, and AED. Program Information: This is a required course in the Fire Training Certificate program. It may also be delivered as a standalone course or as part of a contract training program. Delivery: This course is delivered face-to-face. LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon the successful completion of this course, according to the Canadian Red Cross standard, students will be able to comprehend and successfully demonstrate the skills according to Canadian Red Cross standard; assess an emergency scene; assess a victim and establish priorities of care; identify traumatic injuries and provide appropriate first response care; recognize medical injuries and provide appropriate first response care; and recognize special populations and situations, and their first response care implications. EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT: Based on Evaluation and Assessment: Ability to comprehend and successfully demonstrate the skills Ability to complete a knowledge evaluation with a minimum mark of 80% Have completed skills checklists, and Successfully complete one evaluated scenario Participants must attend and participate in 100% of the course Please see the instructor syllabus for specific classroom policies related to this course, such as details of evaluation, penalties for late assignments and use of electronic aids. EXAM POLICY: Students must attend all required scheduled exams that make up a final grade at the appointed time and place. Individual instructors may accommodate for illness or personal crisis. Additional accommodation will not be made unless a written request is sent to and approved by the appropriate Department Head prior to the schedules exam. 5 COURSE GRADE: Course grades are assigned as follows: COM NCG Completed to defined standard No Credit Granted A grade of COM is awarded to students for 100% attendance and participation in projects and assignments. All courses (whether credit-bearing or continuing education courses) must be passed or marked complete according to the criteria listed before the student can be awarded the COTR Fire Training Certificate.
