3 Introduction The First Person On Scene Enhanced (FPOS-e) Course has been specifically designed for personnel who are seeking a career in the emergency services, ambulance services, the event medical sector or those who work in high risk environments. Delegates on successful completion will be suitably prepared and qualified to make safe and effective lifesaving decisions, utilising a wide range of medical skills and application. This course includes a clinical placement, which ensures the medical skills taught throughout, can be applied and practiced in a realistic theatre. Course Outline and Overview The FPOS-e Course is five weeks in duration, and is split into the following two modules: Module One Non-residential This module is three-weeks in duration (15-days), delivered within the classroom environment incorporating theoretical and practical based training and assessment. Training takes place at our dedicated Training Centre in Norwich, East Anglia. Delegates are subjected to a number of Formative and Summative assessments throughout, to ensure they are adequately prepared for the clinical placement and to be awarded certification on successful completion of the course (both modules). Module Two Clinical Placement This module is two-weeks in duration (14-days) allowing for applied practice in a realistic environment to be achieved. This placement takes place in Mexico, working under direct mentorship of senior clinicians and experienced paramedics. Delegates are required to complete a clinical placement book, which is required to be signed and authenticated by the clinicians and paramedics who are mentoring the delegate throughout this period of time. Both modules can be completed together (block period of five weeks) or separately, module by module at separate times to suit the individual needs. However, Module One must be completed in its entirety prior to starting Module Two. The FPOS-e Course must be completed over a six-month period from start to finish. Training provided throughout is by experienced HPC Paramedics, Emergency Care Practitioners and invited external speakers (Doctors and Nurses). All personnel have been carefully selected, for their ability, performance and expertise in the subject matter area being delivered. Clinical Placement Course delegates are required to complete a clinical placement, responding to real life emergency situations. The clinical placement offered with the course, will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico s second largest city. During the placement each delegate will work under direct mentorship of senior clinicians and experienced paramedics. During the placement delegates will spend time evenly split between the following two key areas: Accident & Emergency Clinic 5 days Emergency Medical Technician Course Page 1
4 Ambulance Response (Blue Light) 5 days The clinical placement will allow the delegate to practice (real time), the skills and procedures learnt throughout the course. This will provide an incredible experience, providing first-hand, what it will be like to attend and treat real life causalities. The type of medical emergencies encountered will vary considerably on a daily basis. The clinical placement is included within the price, and covers return flights to Mexico, accommodation and food. Course delegates however will have to cover any associated costs regarding inoculations required and individual travel insurances. Course delegates, who have the ability to possibly source their own clinical placement, can opt to use this method of completion, as long as it meets the strict requirements of the Awarding Body. Possible alternatives will need to be discussed with our Clinical Lead on a case by case basis for suitability. Detailed checks prior to approval will be carried out, to ensure it meets the minimum standards. Qualifications Issued Personnel on successful completion of the course will be issued with the following qualifications, which are all valid for a period of three-years: IHCD BTEC Level 2 First Person On Scene Enhanced Certificate Medicine In Remote Areas Certificate, clinically endorsed by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh Advanced Cardiac Life Support (eacls) Certificate QA Level 3 First Response Emergency Care Certificate, clinically endorsed by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh Manual Handling (elearning) Certificate Course delegates are respectively reminded that Continual Professional Development is an integral part of ensuring they remain current and competent in medical procedures. MedSec 7 recommends that all delegates complete this as a minimum on an annual basis. Course Prerequisite Course delegates must hold as a minimum the IHCD BTEC Level 2 First Person on Scene Intermediate (or equivalent) Qualification, to enrol onto the course. Course Cost The cost of the course is 3,595 + VAT. This cost includes return flights, accommodation and food for the clinical placement in Mexico. For personnel who may wish to pay by instalments (Modular) then please contact us direct to discuss this matter in more detail. Please note, the clinical placement will not be confirmed until full payment has been received due to the booking of flights and accommodation etc. Emergency Medical Technician Course Page 2
5 Course Dates The available course dates are as follows, and please note, during Module One of the course, you are not required to attend training over the weekend periods: Module One January March May 2016 Module Two This will be arranged separately by our administration team, after holding further discussions with the delegate and their preferred option (date) for completion. Delegates may wish at this stage to have a break from the course prior to deployment, or already, have prior work commitments which need to be taken into consideration. Ideally we must have a minimum of four weeks notice, to ensure everything is in place prior to your deployment. Summary This course is a great opportunity not to be missed, and will certainly prepare the delegate to respond to an emergency situation with an array of medical applications to utilise. Should you have any further questions, please don t hesitate to contact a member of our team on any of the following means: Freephone: Office: info@medsec7.com (Clinical lead): adam.brind@medsec7.com Website: Emergency Medical Technician Course Page 3
