Please return this form to: John Quinlivan, School of Nursing & Midwifery, NUI Galway The closing date for applications for Semester 1 (Sep Dec 2011) is Tuesday, 2 nd August The closing date for applications for Semester 2 (Jan Apr 2012) is Monday, 31 st October 2011 Entry Criteria: Applicants for Stand Alone Modules must be: Working in a clinical area where they are able to develop skills relevant to their chosen module. Hold an honours primary degree (Level 8 [or an equivalent international qualification]) in medicine or nursing or midwifery or physiotherapy or occupational therapy or speech and language therapy. Hold a postgraduate diploma (Level 9) or a professional qualification deemed suitable by the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. OR Nurse candidates must meet the following additional criteria: A registered general nurse or registered psychiatric nurse or registered sick children s nurse or registered nurse intellectual disability or registered midwife. Hold an active nursing registration. Fees Fees for the academic Year ( ) are 850 (EU students), except for the modules Best Practice in Taking Smears and Continence Care which were 650 (EU students). 1

5 Information Sheet for Admission as an Occasional Student in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, National University of Ireland, Galway You are classed as an Occasional Student in the School of Nursing & Midwifery NUI Galway if: You have been admitted to undertake a programme of study that is a module of a recognised full-time programme. On completion, this module will give you 10 ECTS which may be credited towards further academic study. As an Occasional Student however, you are not on a programme leading to a Degree, Diploma or any other award of this University. Should you wish to apply for a full-time or part-time Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing programme, please use the following on-line application facility: Admission Occasional students are considered for admission on the basis of their application, and considering the following points: 1. Their previous academic and current clinical practice 2. A personal statement outlining their current clinical role and their need for the stand alone module 3. Recommendation by the Programme Director concerned, in favour of the application Application Application must be made on an official application form of the School of Nursing & Midwifery, National University of Ireland, Galway. Copy of birth certificate (if you have never been a student of NUI Galway) 2. Copy of certificate of payment of current year Annual Retention Fee to An Bord Altranais. 3. Copy of original transcript of previous studies undertaken (if you have never been a student of NUI Galway) 4. A letter of support from your Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing. 5. 6 Acceptance of Offer and Fee Payment The letter of offer to successful applicants will prescribe a date by which acceptance of the offer, in writing, must be notified.
