3 12 th International March 2010 Who Should Attend/ Target Audience This educational activity is designed for medical oncologists, infectious disease specialists, hematologists, hospitalists, and other physicians, physicians-in-training, and healthcare professionals interested and/or involved in the care of patients with febrile neutropenia. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: Discuss and evaluate the clinical use of prophylactic versus empiric or preemptive therapy of fungal infections in febrile neutropenic patients Discuss the appropriate selection and practical utilization of replacement antibiotics for therapy of infections caused by resistant bacteria in febrile neutropenic patients Describe the role of native immunity on susceptibility and severity of infection in patients with febrile neutropenia Identify and assess management strategies for infections in patients undergoing stem cell transplant from alternative sources and donors Compare current and emerging therapies in the prevention and management of patients with febrile neutropenia Letter from the Chair Dear Colleagues, It is my pleasure to invite you to the 12th International Febrile Neutropenia. For this winter s meeting, we are delighted to be gathering in the capital city of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg - a small country of great attractions at the very heart of Europe. We hope you will be able to join us for what is sure to be a rewarding and dynamic experience, as your perspectives and contributions add immeasurable value to this international symposium. This scientific meeting is designed to provide medical oncologists, infectious disease specialists, and other interested healthcare professionals with the most salient aspects of the etiology, diagnosis, and state-of-the-art management of febrile neutropenia. Topics are selected each year from recent developments in the field, current controversies and complicated cases. The highly interactive format includes 4 sessions; each comprised of a state of the art presentationlecture, followed by a cutting-edge research presentations relating to the topic, a case discussion focusing on the practical application of the topic, and a summary. There is always opportunity for extensive discussion of the presented data. We will again be accepting abstracts for both oral and poster presentations and encourage you to submit your work by the 15 December deadline. We look forward to reviewing and sharing your research findings with the community.
