2 Introduction The Chaffey College Health Science Demographic Survey was completed by 22 CNA students over the Chaffey College Internet on September 20 th, 2012 during the Fall 2012 Semester. The purpose of the survey was to obtain information required for Accreditation. Executive Summary CNA Students Demographics of CNA Students (Please refer to Table 1.) 95.2% were California residents 90.5% were female 47.7% were years old, 14.4% were years old, and 9.5% were 30-34, and 19.2% were over 35 years old at the start of the term 19.0% were Hispanic and 19.0% were African American Characteristics of CNA Students (Please refer to Table 2.) 47.6% had at least one dependent living with them 22.7% were single parents 45.5% travelled 10 miles or less from their home to Chaffey College, 36.4% travelled miles, and 18.2% travelled more than 20 miles 52.4% were not employed, 33.3% were employed 20 hours or less per week, and 14.3% were employed 21 or more hours per week 63.6% were eligible for Financial Aid 50.0% were receiving Financial Aid or a Scholarship Health Care Work Experience (Please refer to Table 3.) 20.0% had previously worked in the Health Care field Student Ratings of Preparedness (Please refer to Table 4.) 95.5% of the CNA students agreed or strongly agreed with the following statement: In the classroom I am comfortable with most subject matter. 95.5% of the CNA students agreed or strongly agreed with the following statement: I feel welcomed into the health science program. 6 11. I WANT TO BE A RN AND DECIDED TO TAKE THE CNA COURSE TO HAVE EXPERIANCE IN PATIENT AND OR RESIDENT CARE. 12. RECONMENDED BY MY MOTHER WHO TOOK THIS COURSE BEFORE GOING INTO HER NURSING PROGRAM. THOUGHT THAT THIS IS A GOOD WAY TO START BEFORE GOING INTO THE ADN PROGRAM. 13. MY PROFESSIONAL GOAL IS TO CONTINUE IN COLLEGE AND FINISH MY GENERAL EDUCATION CLASS,AFTER FINISHING THOSE CLASSES I PLAN TO START THE NURSING PROGRAM. ULTIMATELY I WANT TO APPLY AT LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY OR WASHINGTON STATE FOR THEIR NURSING PROGRAMS. AFT 19. TO BECOME A RN. 20. RECEIVE A BSN AND WORK IN A HOSPITAL IN EITHER ONCOLOGY, LABOR AND DELIVERY, OR ICU. I ALSO WANT TO CONTINUE MY EDUCATION THROUGHT MY LIFE AND PROFESSIONAL CAREER. 7
