2 Welcome We are excited to invite Directors of Nursing, Charge Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistances to attend an educational event catered to YOUR needs! This conference will be energetic and hands-on all while being in a learning environment. You will be given useful information to take back and implement in your home right away to better serve your residents. We will give you the confidence, knowledge, direction, and motivation needed to help you enhance your role of caring for the elderly. Location: September Orlando s Event and Conference Center 2050 Dorsett Village Plaza St. Louis, MO REGISTRATION FEES include course materials, certificates of attendance, beverage breaks, and lunch. MEMBER DISCOUNTS, up to 25% off the Regular registration fees are available to Individual Members and all employees of an Organizational Member. PAYMENT OF REGISTRATION FEES: See registration form for deadline dates and payment rates. WE CANNOT BILL YOU. Registrations may be submitted by mail, phone between normal business hours of 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., fax, or online at Discover/MasterCard/Visa accepted. There is a $30 service charge on all returned checks. SUBSTITUTIONS AND CANCELLATIONS: Substitutions are allowed. You may cancel up to 5 business days prior to the workshop and receive full credit or upon written request a refund less a $50 processing fee. Cancellations less than 5 business days may send a substitute or transfer (less $50) registration to another workshop within 6 months. Refunds/credits are not offered if registrant fails to attend without prior notification. MLN reserves the right to cancel workshops for low enrollment (a credit or full refund will be offered). MLN reserves the right to substitute presenters without notice. CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION: Confirmations are sent to the address given on the registration form. Please provide a copy to your employer if necessary. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Income tax deductions are permitted by U.S. Treasury Regulation for educational purposes. Please bring a sweater or jacket due to variations in meeting room temperatures. Discussion and educational information will take place after watching five short scenarios involving staff providing assistance for persons living with dementia. This presentation will open up discussion on how best to provide resident specific support and assistance. The overall presentation will discuss how knowing and understanding the person is essential in order to provide individual personal care. Effective communication techniques for dementia residents will also be discussed. 10:30 10:45 a.m. Network with Exhibitors 10:45 11:45 a.m. Target Audience: DON/Charge Nurse Self-Determination vs Protective Oversight (1 hour) Speaker: Sam Plaster, State Culture Change Coordinator, Department of Health and Senior Services, Section for Long Term Care Regulation, Jefferson City, Missouri Long-term care providers frequently struggle with balancing residents right to self-determination with their responsibility to provide protective oversight. The purpose of this program is to provide an overview of legal and regulatory requirements regarding residents rights and protective oversight requirements and to discuss specific areas of difficulty, including responding to demands by family members and guardians. Target Audience: CNA Restorative Nursing 24/7 (1 hour) Speaker: Wade Scheulen, Executive Vice President, PPS Therapies, St. Louis, Missouri It takes the whole village! In this discussion, the foundations of how to create a successful restorative nursing program will be explored using a patient centered approach. Highlighted topics will include how to select the appropriate restorative intervention and how to document that intervention for quality and compliance purposes. Additionally, the specific roles and responsibilities of the individuals creating and executing the restorative nursing plan of care will be identified. Three DONs will share their expertise and experience in developing PIPs that were successfully designed and implemented and resulted in positive change in their nursing homes. Even though the issues being addressed were complex and important, the PIPs were very concise and to the point. At the end of this session, you will have practical application knowledge to use in your home.

This session will give you the opportunity to voice your trials and tribulations and receive feedback from others who are dealing with the same day-to-day issues. Target Audience: CNA Implementing Person-Directed Practices to Promote a Good Night s Sleep (1 hour) Speaker: Sam Plaster, State Culture Change Coordinator, Department of Health and Senior Services, Section for Long Term Care Regulation, Jefferson City, Missouri We all know that a good night s sleep is critical to maintaining good mental and physical health but do care practices support good sleep? This program will provide a review of recent research and the harm caused by sleep interruptions as well as regulatory requirements and care planning tools. 1:45 2 p.m. Networking with Exhibitors/Door Prizes must be present to win 2 3 p.m. Target Audience: DON/Charge Nurse Effective Teambuilding (1 hour) Speaker: Al Litwiller, Consultant, Litwiller Consulting, Chicago, Illinois As good as we may be as supervisors, there is simply no way we can care for all of our residents by ourselves. We need to build a team with everyone (employees, residents, and families) pulling the same way. During this session we will learn the greatest roadblocks to teambuilding and the proven methods of building that team that we need to deliver exceptional care. Stress is like blowing a breath of air into a balloon. Either the balloon pops or we learn to let air out of the balloon. During this session we will learn the proven methods of managing the stress in our lives according to current research. Humor plays an important role in this enjoyable process.

Gallup has interviewed over 25 million employees to determine what drives and stops employee engagement at work.
