T. Akhtar As a local resident in Manchester, I would welcome the opportunity to stand as an elected governor. I m passionate and committed, ready to make positive contribution to the CMFT Trust, making sure the hospital is ready to face future challenges in restructuring and providing high-quality patient care. Having participated, as an assessor in the recent Patient Led Assessments of Care Environment (PLACE) at the Trust, I have been given an in-depth insight into how the hospital is meeting the needs of the patient and where the trust needs to improve. I would like to use the experiences gained, to make sure the keeps maintaining standard of patient care. In my present job working within the local housing/resident associations I regularly meet elderly and vulnerable residents from various communities/groups (eg minority groups, people with learning difficulties) who feel they are being let down by the NHS and are not getting the specialist care which they need to support their well-being. I want to advocate on their behalf making sure the hospital provides a higher quality of patient care and to develop the trust cultural partnership within local communities. I am hard working professional, conscientious individual, with excellent communicational skills, if elected I intend to work proactively with the governors to bring positive change via, active engagement with non-board of directors to be more accountable for the performance of the Trust, ensuring the Trust is representing the best interest of the trust members and the general public. Political Party: Labour Paul Cunningham A lifelong supporter of the NHS. Educated to degree level in law as well as acquiring a health and safety qualification. I have been an employment relations expert and a human resource consultant for over 20 years. A small but significant amount of that time as a consultant (non doctor) for an NHS Foundation Trust and an Acute Trust (both in Pennine areas). I understand the problems and issues challenging staff and management at all levels during a time of drastic cuts to funding. I have advised on the simplest and most economic ways of resolving employment issues working alongside unions on an everyday basis. This has been to a high and complex level involving Consultants and all other staff and saving significant sums of money by monitoring delicate situations with substantial sums at risk. Fortunately for me, I have also experienced at first hand the excellent expertise, knowledge, care, attention and basic humanity of all staff at Central Manchester University Hospitals including cleaners, domestics, healthcare assistants, nurses and doctors. It is second to none and I wish to help keep it that way. I know from being there how heard they all work in A & E, assessment and cardiac wards and outpatients. I have already tried to thank the Hospital by undertaking Patient Led Assessment of the Care Environment on wards this year. I would appreciate the chance to further give my time, skills and experience to benefit and enhance this Hospital Trust. Political Party: Labour Party 2

Hassan Hassan Dear Colleagues My reasons for standing as a Public Governor for my local Manchester Central Hospital Trust is my passion for care of the vulnerable demonstrated by my connection to the Royal Manchester Central Hospital where for the last 3 years I have organised gift for Eid from a local charity for the children; with equal commitment to the teams at the centre of this vital public service. My values match the hospital Trust in showing Respect, Empathy, Consideration, Compassion and Dignity for all. Equally have a commitment to support equality, diversity and inclusion so that our organisation reflects the people it serves. I bring with me great experience in similar roles: as a schools governor, a member of GMP Independent Advisory Group, executive member of Manchester Council of Mosques, serving as a critical friend to the establishment and the high profile civil servants. I have experience of sitting in strategic meetings dealing major issues with high ranking officers such as the GMP most senior officers, Executive School principal, political leaders: MPs, councillors, police commissioner etc representing the views of the grassroots. Equally in my work for the last 13 years in 3rd sector employment especially the last 7 years specialising as an advocate for the disabled. I certainly know how to put the point across to the powers that be and assist in setting priorities based on the people s voice. My motto is to listen, learn, develop, deliver and share! Janet Heron Photograph not received 1.Why I m standing for election: My name is Janet Heron. I ve lived in Manchester all my adult life and I m standing for election to the Council of Governors because I want to make a positive contribution to the NHS. In the past five years the health service in Manchester has treated and supported me in successfully overcoming several serious health issues. From these experiences I have gained a lot of practical knowledge of how the Trust operates with regard to many aspects of patient care. I believe in an NHS which remains free to its patients and in public rather than private ownership. 2.What I think I can offer to the Council of Governors: My working life with Manchester City Council has given me a depth of practical experience in consulting with the public and business organisations. I ve also worked with a wide range of Manchester s amazing variety of people and communities in all aspects of urban regeneration. I am a life-long trade union member and have held several unpaid senior positions within two unions. This has given me an understanding of workforce and employment issues. I continue in Unison as a retired member. 3.If elected my priorities would be: Improving the quality of the patient experience Promoting joined up health care, for example all G.P surgeries and other hospitals being able to access your x rays and scans and test results electronically. Working to remove practical barriers to accessing health care. Supporting NHS staff in having access to the (statement cut at word limit) 3

Musa Jammeh As a concern citizen, I feel I will be a good governor for Manchester, as a keen sympathic person, I have always dedicated my time and supporting people in their daily lives and as such I will be able to scrutinize and ask questions that concern the public. I always wants to see success and settings targets to me especially for NHS has to 100% because of the value of life. I have been a clinical assesor for over 4 years as a volunteer and have regularly visit the hospital on many occasions. I will raise your concerns, issues that affects us all as a governor. I therefore look for your support to speak for us all. Political Party: Labour Party Financial or other interest in the Trust: My interest is to see an NHS that s therefore all. Philip Largan I am a chartered quantity surveyor who has more than 10 years experience managing the financial and legal considerations of the construction industry on major projects including hospitals, schools, heritage buildings and major infrastructure developments. I have a degree in management science, masters in quantity surveying commercial management and have good educational experience of economics, maths and law. I have a passion for healthcare thanks to both mine, and my family s experiences with the NHS, and through my wife who is an anaesthetist working in the North West. I am committed to ensuring that CMFT continues the outstanding work that is being done in the region, while continually challenging the Board of Directors to improve standards of care and drive efficiency from the Trust. I understand that the best way to achieve this is by canvassing CMFT Members and the general public to understand key performance indicators such as patient experience, quality, safety, research and innovation, and I believe that my passion, determination and experiences make me ideally placed to assist with this process. Due to unfortunate circumstances I have been a regular attendee of the NHS, however I have been lucky to have received exceptional levels of care from consistently excellent care teams. I want to use my personal healthcare experiences and my professional capability to benefit CMFT and the Trust s patients. 4

Asad Osman Somalia. A Brief Introduction myself My name is Mr Asad Osman. I would like your nomination to stand as Governor for Central Manchester University Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust. I have worked with a wide range of communities such as Middle Eastern, African Caribbean, North African and Western European. My educational background is in Political Science, International law and a degree of HRM. I have stood as a candidate twice in Manchester Central local election Ardwick Ward 2010, Moss Side Ward and I m currently a candidate for the Presidential election for the Republic Democracy of Along with my experience I speak fluently in 5 languages in which will help me convey the needs of many communities in the Greater Manchester area. I want to bring my experience to NHS in order to make North West NHS the best Organization in the whole area and if I am elected I m wiling to work with any organization to gain knowledge in order to make NHS grow to help our vastly diverse population. With my experience as a community leader I can bring my skills to this elected position in order to make sure NHS is meeting the High Standard it is wanting to achieve, and to respect the Quality Act policy. Thanks again all for allowing me to put my name for this Election process New Governor NHS Trust in Manchester Central. P.S. Please feel free to contact me if you have any Question. Sincerely your Candidate.. Asad Osman Wakilur Rahman I believe it s important that people who regularly use the NHS, whether as a patient or as a carer, have a say in how it s run, as they bring with them their own experience and knowledge. These are key for identifying the areas where services can be improved, and for championing those that are especially useful and effective. As a local and studied in Sociology at University of Manchester, I have a lot of involvement in the local communities. I was a former executive member of VAM (Voluntary Action Manchester) representing Afro-Asian Community in Manchester and actively participated it s funding committee. I was an interpreter of DA Languages and Languages Unlimited. At the moment I am working as for MRS (market Research Society). Moreover, I am also a diabetic patient. I often visit hospitals and medical centres. I experienced a lot of good and bad things in NHS s services; I raised many issues to the authorities. As a Sociologist I like to put my knowledge and experience to improve the NHS Foundation Trust. I understand NHS has limited resource and funding, but we can make it positive streaming a volume of services to our local communities. I have a strong community spirit and honestly believe in the further development of the Manchester; therefore I am ready to volunteer my time as one of public governors to assist executive team of this Trust. 5

Martin Rathfelder I have had excellent treatment from the trust and I would like to give something back. I have a lot of experience with local, national, and regional perspectives on healthcare which could be valuable to the Governors. I have been active as a patient representative since I joined the Community Health Council in South Manchester in I m now involved with Central Manchester Clinical Commissioning Group. I have a special interest in the Somali community in Manchester, and in benefits and services for disabled people. I was the hospital Welfare Rights Officer at MRI from and have been an elected Governor before. I work as Director of the Socialist Health Association, organising policy seminars and campaigns about health across the UK. The SHA is committed to supporting the NHS and fighting inequality in health inequality which means that people here die on average years earlier than people in more prosperous areas. My involvement with debates about health services across the UK and in Greater Manchester may be helpful. I ve organised a successful series of discussions about healthcare in DevoManc over the last year. We need to find much better ways of listening to the concerns of patients and their families. The Trust should be using new technology more boldly to find out what patients want and how they experience the services provided, and to help governors to be accessible to members of the Trust. Political Party: Labour Sue Rowlands Standing for re-election I worked for over thirty years in local government, as a social worker and manager, during which time I played a key role in establishing a multi-agency service for disabled children in Manchester. I have spent the last six years as a public governor and am seeking re-election so that I can continue to build on the valuable experience and knowledge I believe I have gained during this time. The work of the Governing body and Directors continues to grow more complex and diverse with each successive Health Act, and we will face even more change and challenge with the coming of the Greater Manchester Devolution Strategy and the planned Single Hospital Service. As well as regular attendance at Council and Board meetings, I have been a member of the Patient Experience Working Group, which works towards customer focus and patient consultation. I have been involved in Ward accreditations and PACE assessments, which examine standards of care; I am also part of a regular clinical meeting that focuses on Children with Medical Complexities/disabilities, where my previous working experience has proved very useful. In spite of the current challenges facing the NHS, I continue to believe strongly in the importance of the Trust being able to deliver high-quality services that are responsive, efficient and cost-effective, as well as free at the point of delivery. 7 A K Sinha In the light of my occupational background and varied experience in community organisations in Manchester for over thirty years, my participation in the Council of Governors of the Manchester NHS foundation Trust will enhance Public awareness and effective communications between the NHS and the Public, especially minority groups. I will endeavour to promote greater and closer community involvement, so that deeper understanding of health and welfare problems would be highlighted, in order that the NHS can become more democratic, responsive and efficient in meeting the needs Patients and the Public. My wife ran an inner city GP practice for three decades, and as a member of the family Practitioner Commitee of Manchester in the 1970 s, I was able to acquire detailed knowledge of the NHS through my involvement in various health campaigns especially Diabetes in ethnic minorities as well the promotion of Alternative medicine, physical exercise and Yoga. I was Vice Chairman of the Race and Health Forum representing community organisations and the public at large. At present I represent as a member of the following organisations. Trustee of Manchester Council of community relations. Chairman of Greater Manchester Bengali Hindu Society. Founder member of Inter faith group. Member of Gita Bhavan Hindu temple, Manchester. Project director of CCDA (Centre of Excellence of Culture Diversity, health, Education & Arts) I am a multi lingual, can speak Bengali, Urdu and some Indian Languages. Simon Wilce I fully support the work done by the staff of CMUH. I would wish to assist in some small way, the improvements and progress of CMUH. I work in the voluntary education sector, in the UK and overseas. 7
