2 Food for Thought Teams When I was in medical school I spent hundreds of hours looking into a microscope a skill I never needed to know or ever use. Yet, I didn t have a single class that taught me communication and teamwork skills something I need every day I walk into the hospital. Pronovost & Vohr Excellent teams are not born, they are made. Anonymous A team may be defined as a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, performance goals and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable (Katzenbach & Smith, 1994) Group Think: Provide an example of an effective team.
