11 BSc (Hons) Nursing Adult A three-year programme preparing you for the professional role of an Adult nurse. Focuses on the provision of skilled, knowledgeable and competent person-centred care, primarily to adults. The programme encourages you to develop skills of independent learning, problem solving, critical analysis, application of knowledge, leadership, management and decision making. On successful completion you will gain a professional qualification and an academic honours degree.

16 Mental Health 1:5 adults in NI will show signs of a mental illhealth That s approximately 362,172 people When matched to 17 other countries, NI had the 2 nd highest rates of mental ill-health Prevalence of mental ill-health in NI is 25% higher than in England

17 Mental Health Nursing The primary purpose of mental health nursing is to promote mental health and quality of life, and to deliver compassionate care and support to people with mental health problems, their families and carers. Mental health nursing is based on clear values that include person centred, compassionate and holistic care using a recovery-orientated approach which requires the formation of a therapeutic relationship between the mental health nurse and the service user. (Thomas, 2017)

29 Competitive selection process ONE Intake per year in September 287 places for entry in September 2017: 238 BSc Hons Nursing Adult 49 BSc Hons Nursing Mental Health Places are highly competitive. This year: We received 2172 applications We invited approx. 950 to interview We made approx. 400 offers for 287 places. To ensure that we offer the most suitable applicant our selection process is very rigorous and includes 2 stages of selection: personal statement scoring and interview.

30 Stages of Selection Stage 1 - Personal Statements are assessed Applicants will be rank ordered on the basis of the score and the required number of applicants will be invited to interview. Applicants should be informed of the decision by mid February. Stage 2 Interviews Will be held over two weeks commencing 5 March and 12 March Panels will comprise a member of academic staff and a member of staff from one of the Health and Social Care Trusts. Decision Interviewed Applicants should normally be notified of decision by 31st March 2018

31 Funding Students who commenced in September 2017 receive a non-means tested, tax-free bursary of 5165 per year for 3 years paid in equal monthly installments of Additional means tested allowances may be payable for students with dependents. The University tuition fees are paid directly to University by DOH. Just to note that funding arrangements are reviewed annually. You are NOT eligible for student loan or grant from Student Finance Northern Ireland.
