1 Systematic Plan for Associate of Science in Nursing Program Evaluation Plan for ASN Program Evaluation The Health Sciences Division s systematic plan for the Associate of Science in Nursing Program evaluation and assessment of outcomes includes the following: timelines; appropriate methods; expected levels of achievement; collection and analysis of data that is aggregated and trended over time; verification that the findings are used for development, maintenance, and revision of the program. STANDARD 1: MISSION AND ADMINISTRATIVE CAPACITY The mission of the nursing education unit reflects the governing organization s core values and is congruent with its mission/goals. The governing organization and program have administrative capacity resulting in effective delivery of the nursing program and achievement of identified program outcomes. Plan Criterion 1.1 The mission and philosophy of the nursing education unit are congruent with the core values, mission, and goals of the governing organization. 1.2 The governing organization and nursing education unit ensure representation of the nurse administrator and nursing faculty in governance activities; opportunities exist for student representation in governance activities. Expected Level of Achievement (ELA) The mission/philoso phy and outcomes of the nursing education unit are congruent with the core values, mission, and goals of the governing organization. Faculty: At least one full-time faculty member from the department to participate in faculty senate. All full-time faculty present at faculty meetings Dean serves on the Executive Committee, academic affairs, accelerating opportunities and executive staff council. Faculty of the program will host two advisory meetings and post program outcomes and end of program student learning outcomes to the website. Continue to encourage partnerships with local healthcare facilities and community to increase the diversity of the clinical experience while assisting the community and medical profession to achieve their goals.

3 1.5 The nursing education unit is administered by a nurse who holds a graduate degree with a major in nursing. The Dean of Nursing is a Registered Nurse of greater than 3 years with a DNP. The LSBN requires a program head have a minimum of graduate degree in nursing and shall have a minimum of three years experience in the area of teaching and three years in clinical practice (LSBN 3515.B2) The program demonstrates evidence in achievement in meeting this criterion. Review of job description as well as CV will be done in the event of the appointment of a new Dean is required. 1.7 When present, nursing program coordinators and/or faculty who assist with program administration are academically and experientially qualified. 1.8 The nurse administrator has authority and responsibility for the development and administration of the program and has sufficient time and resources to fulfil the role responsibilities. The Department of Nursing possess a separate faculty handbook in addition to the Fletcher faculty handbook and Fletcher Employee handbook however the policies in the department of nursing handbook supports the governing organization. The nursing faculty handbook is reviewed and revised by faculty and staff annually to assure policies support those of Fletcher Technical Community College and Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LBSN). The program demonstrates evidence in achievement in meeting this criterion. Continue to monitor departmental budget to ensure sufficient resources are available for maintenance and growth of the department. Current departmental and ASN program policies will be reviewed to ensure they continue to support those policies of all governing organizations. As new policies for the department of nursing are created they will be evaluated to ensure alignment with the policies of the governing organization.

5 1.11 Distance education, when utilized, is congruent with the mission of the governing organization and the mission/philosophy of the nursing education unit. The Department of Nursing follows the policies on distance education of the governing organization. August End of Course surveys evaluate all distance learning activities.. The online learning management system (LMS), Canvas, is utilized by Faculty for online support such as posting grades, posting schedules, notes and other assignments as well as proctor exams and additional readings. The Learning management system(lms), ELS and HESI practice test, case studies and proctored testing will continue to be used by the ASN program faculty for efficient and effective support for class work and communication. Faculty plan to begin using Kaplan for Capstone course and Live Review with fall 2017 admit class. The Evolve Learning System (ELS) is used by students to supplement the text books. HESI practice test and case studies are used by students to enhance critical thinking skills. HESI proctored tests to evaluate whether student learning outcomes were met. Facebook used as a means for communication to students and to reach students through social media.

6 STANDARD 2: FACULTY AND STAFF Qualified and credentialed faculty are sufficient in number to ensure the achievement of the student learning outcomes and program outcomes. Sufficient qualified staff are available to support the nursing education unit. General education instructors hold at least 18 hours of graduate credit at Fletcher Technical Community College. The ASN program does not currently use preceptors. Currently there are 3 parttime instructor as of Summer, 2017 (Annie, Matt, Heather) All instructors teaching ASN program pre recs meet the SACS, BOR and Fletcher requirements of 18 hours of graduate work.. Preceptors are currently not being used. The program demonstrates evidence in achievement in meeting this criterion. All part-time faculty hold a minimum of graduate degree. The ASN program staffs an administrative assistant to the Dean of Nursing and a student worker. Each facility incorporates national standards including Patient Safety goals, CARF, ANCC, AHRQ etc. Seventeen clinical facility contracts are currently in effect and being utilized by the ASN program, which are on file in the Nursing Department and approved by LSBN. Students are given orientation to all clinical facilities in safety, HIPPA, hospital policy and procedure, computer documentation, as well as medication administration procedure prior to their clinical experience.. Evaluation Methods: Online examinations given in the ASN program evaluate student knowledge through Bloom s Taxonomy. Exams contain a variety of question types including mathematics, completion, multiple choice, true/false, and multiple multiples. Exams are analyzed for accuracy and consistency with student learning outcomes using the statistical data provided by the LMS. HESI final exams are used in the ASN program with Fundamentals, Nutrition, Pharmacology, Medical Surgical I, and II, Mental Health, Obstetrics, and Pediatrics as well as a comprehensive exit exam to evaluate student learning outcomes were met. Skills laboratory check-off forms evaluate the student s ability to perform skills prior to clinical entrance. Clinical evaluation forms are used to evaluate student performance within the clinical setting and are based on the ANA standards and QSEN competencies.

Faculty members are adding medical terminology workshops, faculty lead lab hours, the elimination of ebooks, a limit on repeated courses for admissions, a change in the final exam calculation for NURS 1300, and cohort specific exit interview. Faculty members have also voted to revise the curriculum for Fall 2019 to split NURS 1300 into two leveled courses based on student feedback. Data will continue to be collected.
