1 Clinical Governance Lead Role Profile Role purpose: Reporting to the Operations Manager (Care Home), to lead the programme of corporate accountability for clinical governance and clinical performance across St Monica Trust. Hours of work: Required hours will be stated on the job advert and will vary according to our needs and sites.

2 Duties 1. Leadership role in supporting and developing the practice of clinical governance across St Monica Trust. 2. Coordination of clinical policy development and review. 3. Work with SMT teams to develop and support the role of registered nurses and other teams engaging in clinical activities across St Monica Trust. 4. Coordination of the procurement of clinical resources across St Monica Trust. 5. Research and report on clinical issues impacting the work of St Monica Trust. 6. Representing St Monica Trust as appropriate on relevant forums & committees, internal and external to the Trust. Main Tasks 1. Leading on the appropriate practices which underpin the Trust s clinical governance activities. - Provide corporate leadership across the organisation in respect of agreed clinical areas. - Take the leading role in implementing and supporting the Trust s electronic care planning (ECP) programme. - Act as the St Monica Trust infection control lead. - Chair, support and coordinate clinical practice-related meetings. - Undertake clinical audit visits to all services with nursing/clinical activities and contribute to the production of service quality audits across the Trust. - Work with Trust / external professional colleagues to provide appropriate reports concerning agreed outcomes. 2. Coordinating policy work - Provide service level guidance and support to lead RNs/Managers. - Advise, assist and support St Monica Trust s community-based services as necessary, and agreed. - Lead, research, develop, and review all appropriate clinical policy areas, ensuring these and all related procedures are appropriately understood by managers and practitioners. 3. Support and development of clinical teams/practice - Develop clinical audit tools to support policies and best practice and undertake audits and report on data collected. - Evaluate audits and advise on practice improvements in line with agreed policies and procedures. - Undertake a regular programme of intervention and improvement, where necessary, in order to achieve CQC and other positive outcomes across St Monica Trust s care services. - Assist the Practice Development Team in identifying and addressing training and development needs by registered nurses and other staff as appropriate in relation to a

3 range of clinical practices. - Act as contact person for the student nurse and RN Preceptorship programme across St Monica Trust; negotiating and supporting student nurse placements; coaching and mentoring where appropriate. - Support the HR team in the development and review of clinical roles across St Monica Trust. 4. Coordinating procurement - Research, liaise, and recommend procurement of wide range of clinical resources to achieve best value and ensure appropriate standards are met. - Coordinate and manage any clinical trials, reporting outcomes and taking decisions accordingly in collaboration with all appropriate colleagues. - Work with colleagues from the maintenance and health & safety teams to ensure appropriate servicing contracts are developed and reviewed, ensuring quality standards of clinical and other care-related equipment across St Monica Trust. 5. Research and evaluation - Investigate and recommend responses to a range of clinical issues, to manage risk appropriately and ensure the safest practices at all times. - Act as central contact point for relevant information about clinical resources used by the Trust. - Report to the PRG about all relevant aspects relating to clinical practice. 6. Representing St Monica Trust - Attend all relevant committees / meetings internal and external to the Trust which promote positive clinical and care delivery outcomes. - Undertake relevant learning activities to ensure professional membership of appropriate bodies and organisations. - From time to time, as required and agreed by own manager, undertake the role of representative, practitioner or manager in order to provide support to St Monica Trust s nursing services. Qualifications Essential Desirable Registered Nurse (level 1) with active NMC pin number Recent evidence of meeting PREP requirements Facilitators Learning and Assessment in Practice Award Experience Essential Desirable Work within a nursing home/hospital/sheltered housing or social care setting or work with older people. Social care with older people, disabled people and/or people with dementia. Proven track record of nursing including key clinical areas (e.g. wound prevention, pain management, end of life care, medical/ surgical or orthopaedic nursing.)

4 Progressive neurological disorders Development and experience of quality assurance systems Electronic recording systems in relation to care Contribution to development of practice policies and procedures assessment and review of internal practices and preparation of reports People management experience Undertaking risk assessments Writing and maintaining care plans/other documentation Contributing to strategic planning Knowledge Essential Desirable Clinical expertise in relation to general needs/dementia nursing In-depth understanding of specialist care for older people including bariatric care, dementia and neurological disorders Excellent working knowledge of NMC Standards for the Administration of Medicine, Standards of records and record keeping, etc. Theoretical understanding of people management and best practice Safeguarding vulnerable adults; mental capacity and DOLs Health & Social Care Act 2008 and CQC essential standards of quality & safety, etc Skills Essential Desirable Exceptional time management, planning and prioritising skills. Able to problem solve and troubleshoot Able to consider the bigger picture in problem solving and addressing issues Top class clinical and nursing skills Able to operate as role model for best practice at all times. Training, coaching and staff development skills Leadership and motivational skills Communication skills, including good IT skills Additional information Duties must be carried out in compliance with St Monica Trust s Equal Opportunities Policy. This role profile contains the principal accountabilities relating to this post and does not describe in detail all the duties required to carry them out. There will from time to time be a variation of duties depending on residents and units needs. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and this means that any criminal conviction, including spent convictions, must be made known at the time of the application.
