2 The Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare Training Institute The Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare Training Institute offers quality continuing education to individuals interested in furthering their career in Substance Use Counseling and other human services disciplines. The Training Institute is a certified training provider through both OASAS, for CASAC initial certification and recertification courses and the New York State Education Department for and LMHCs recertification courses (approval statements are at the bottom of this page). 3 Registration for the 2018 Conference is now open! Improvement through innovation: providing for the whole person and community Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare is pleased to be hosting the 2018 Northeast Behavioral Healthcare Conference. This growing conference gives professionals the opportunity to develop interdisciplinary approaches to treatment. We invite treatment professionals to join us as we focus on Improvement through innovation: providing for the whole person and community. Our two day conference will provide innovative, evidence-based practice sessions facilitated by national experts and offer continuing education credits for NYS Social Workers, CASACs, Recreation Therapists, and NYS Certified Peers. Attendees will have the opportunity to earn up to 12 credits across this two-day event. We are returning to the Marriott Syracuse Downtown again this year. Located in a magnificently restored historic building dating from 1924 and boasting state of the art conference space, the hotel provides an ideal venue for the 2018 Northeast Behavioral Healthcare Conference.

Assist each participant in creating an advance directive that guides the involvement of family members or supporters when he or she can no longer take appropriate actions on his or her own behalf 4. You learn: Risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems. Information on depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and addiction disorders. A 5-step action plan to help someone developing a mental health problem or in crisis. Where to turn for help professional, peer, and self-help resources. $80

This 46hr course offers the four required modules and meet the training/certification requirements of the NYCB for the CRPA certification. This intensive course will cover 10hrs of advocacy, 10hrs of mentoring and education, 10hrs of recovery and wellness supports, and 16hrs of ethics. At the end of this course, participants will be eligible to apply for provisional CRPA status (CRPA-P) and sit for the NYCB/IC&RC Peer Recovery Exam. $375 Ethics and Boundaries in a multidisciplinary environment: (Part 2): Ethics Not just an abstraction! Ethics and Boundaries in a multidisciplinary environment: (Part 3) Ethics in Practice 2/13/ /20/ The second class in this series will examine the interaction between ethical codes of practice and wider social forces including legal changes. The class will cover confidentiality and matters relating to the NYS Justice Center. The third class in this series will examine issues regarding professional boundaries, Transference/Countertransference, and the role of supervision in handling Ethical challenges

6 Ethics and Boundaries in a multidisciplinary environment: (Part 4) Ethics and Wellness 2/27/ The final class in this series will discuss the value of personal wellness as it relates to a professionals ability to maintain ethical conduct and examine how Burnout can impact one s performance. LGBTQ+; Concepts in Cultural Diversity Presented by Jennifer Crider & Steven DiMarzo 2/27/18 1:00-4:00 This workshop has been developed to provide professionals in all areas of substance use and mental health disorder treatment with knowledge and tools to work with LGBTQ+ clients. Play Therapy Basic Training 1 Mental health and educational professionals who work with children can significantly benefit from training in play therapy. The most basic skills in play therapy can improve rapport and subsequently relationships with children (professional AND personal). In this workshop participants will learn basic play therapy skills to engage children (from infancy through the elementary grades) in play therapy. Developmental and cultural issues relevant with this population will be addressed Free $200

7 and many practical and dynamic interventions will be demonstrated. Play Therapy Basic Training 2 Mental health and educational professionals who have attended Play Therapy Basic Training 1 or have initial training in Child-Centered Play Therapy can significantly benefit from this seminar. In this workshop, participants will review play therapy to further their knowledge and skills. Advanced skills training through role-plays and practice exercises will be included to increase experience and knowledge on play therapy. Participants will also have the opportunity to reflect on their previous training and ask questions. Vicarious Trauma 3/27/18 1:00-3:00 This session will teach the following: Participants will gain insight into vicarious trauma, terms associated, impacts of stress, signs and symptoms of secondary trauma and the importance of self-care. $30 April 2018 Course title Date(s) Description Price DBT Principles Presented by Tracy Torelli LMSW 3.0 CASAC 3.0 NYSED (Social Work) 4/03/18 9:00-12:00 This course provides an overview of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: DBT. Before introducing approaches, theories and skills that can be used in a behavioral health setting to address problems when treating individuals with personality disorders. 8 CASAC Section 4 45 CASAC 4/16/18-6/11/18 This course covers the 45 hours of required education for Section 4 of the 350 hour training for CASAC Certification. $675 Domestic Violence and SUD/MH 4/17/18 9:00-11:00 This session will teach the following: This training will assist in increasing of intimate partner violence, domestic violence, amongst the SUD/MH population and how to appropriately assess, provide care and make necessary referrals as a provider. $30 CASAC Review Presented by Jason Page Not approved for CEU s 4/23/18 & 4/24/18 9:00-4:00 This 12 hour course is designed to help candidates review and prepare for the CASAC Certification exam. The class covers material from all four CASAC Sections and covers information on how to prepare for and take a test given in an electronic testing format. As a prerequisite students will need to take an approved CASAC prep exam and meet for a one on one with the course instructor. 9 Science of Addiction 5/16/18 1:00-4:00 This training explains addiction as a brain disease and demonstrates the brain s remarkable ability to adapt heal and change in recovery. 11 Domestic Violence Relationship with SUD and Mental Health Presented by Steven Comer For: 3.0 CASAC 6/28/18 9:00-12:00 This training is intended to offer participants an opportunity to see the relationship between domestic violence, mental health and SUD. Moreover, the design of the training will allow for participants to apply real world experience to case studies and to discuss recurring themes and concerns that they may. Review of accurate, adequate, and effective clinical documentation to ensure continued care, review, and successful completion of services will be the focus of this workshop. Further, comprehensive and collaborative documentation methods will be reviewed and discussed. Utilizing client feedback throughout treatment series improves the quality of care, supports positive treatment outcomes, and improves the client-clinician relationship. This session will teach the following: This training will assist in increasing of intimate partner violence, domestic violence, amongst the SUD/MH population and how to appropriately assess, provide care and make necessary referrals as a provider. $75 $30

19 CASAC Initial Certification 350 Course The SBH Training Institute is an approved OASAS Training provider for the delivery of the full CASAC 350 hour training for CASAC Certification. Taking all 4 sections on a Tuesday and Thursday evenings only this course will take approximately 18 months to complete(this is the 350 element). Typically classes run from 4-7pm in the evening. There may be additional assignments outside of class time although this depends on the individual instructor. In order to offer an expedited course we also offer sections on Friday afternoons. Taking classes in the evening and on Friday mornings reduces the course to 12 months. Within this schedule there are once monthly full day classes. We encourage all participants to attend live sessions for the full day trainings as these serve as an opportunity to meet other professionals. Completion of these classes will not count toward the work hour s requirement that is set by OASAS and varies de on your qualifications. Further information on this can be found at: If you would like to discuss these requirements further, feel free to contact me and arrange a time to meet. If you have already submitted an application to OASAS and only require certain parts of a module or modules, we can work with you to accommodate that also, and can tailor the program to meet your needs. For SBH employees, there is the option of payroll deductions to pay for the training while non-employees can discuss a payment plan to help them cover the costs. Payment plans for non-sbh employees can also be worked out upon request.
