1 NORTH CAROLINA PIEDMONT REGIONALLY INCREASING BACCALAUREATE NURSES NCP RIBN North Carolina A & T State University and Guilford Technical Community College Limited Enrollment Admission and Progression Criteria Fall 2017 Priority Application due date: February 21, 2017 Thank you for your interest in the NCP RIBN program, a dual enrollment collaborative between Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) and North Carolina A & T State University (NC A & T). The RIBN program is 4- years in length with the student completing general education courses during Year 1, an Associate Degree in Nursing during Years 2 & 3, and a Bachelor s of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) degree during Year 4. Once a student has completed the Associate Degree in Nursing (Year 3) he/she has met the educational requirements to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN ). The first three years of this program are offered at the Main Campus in Jamestown and students may be required to travel to NC A & T while enrolled in the program. Students involved in the NCP RIBN program are subject to the academic calendar for GTCC and NC A & T during the dual enrollment period. Regulations, procedures, and course requirements are subject to change as necessary and without prior notice. Year 4 is completed entirely at NC A & T. The priority application deadline is February 21, The deadline may be extended if there is an insufficient number of qualified applicants. If you have questions, contact Jesse Cross at jlcross@gtcc.edu or , extension or Aleta Harper at alharper@gtcc.edu or , extension GTCC also has a traditional two year Associate Degree Nursing option that has a separate admissions process. To apply, ask a GTCC admission advisor for the enrollment criteria for that option. Students previously enrolled in the GTCC Associate Degree Nursing program or a non-gtcc Associate Degree Nursing program are not eligible for admission into the RIBN program.

2 Priority Application due date: February 21, 2017 MINIMUM ADMISSION CRITERIA Students admitted to the RIBN program are dually enrolled at GTCC and NC A & T. Students are admitted in accordance with the policies set by each institution. Each applicant is required to meet the minimum admission eligibility requirements as set by each college. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission into the program, only an opportunity for consideration. A minimum score of 62 is required in order to proceed to ranking. Guidelines for the TEAS include: You may test twice in a 6 month period. Scores from other colleges will be accepted (must be TEAS 6.0). The fee is $55 per test for GTCC students, $90 for non-gtcc students, and is not covered by financial aid. Study Material may be purchased at If an applicant has taken TEAS version 5.0 within 1 calendar year it will be accepted for this review only. 9. Once accepted into RIBN at GTCC, the Student Success Advocate will work with the student to complete NC A & T application for admission. *Completion of the minimum requirements in the checklist does not guarantee acceptance into the RIBN program.

3 RANKING CRITERIA Once minimum admission criteria has been met, students with the highest ranking points will be accepted. The exact number of RIBN students accepted depends on available space. GTCC and NC A & T reserve the right to determine the number of students admitted to the RIBN program. The criteria for ranking is listed in the table below. The maximum number of points is 12. Students should review the attached Technical Standards to determine if they meet the criteria for nursing practice. An applicant with health problems must provide evidence that appropriate treatment has occurred and the problem has been alleviated or controlled. Persons with health problems which have not responded to treatment within a reasonable time, may be denied admission to the program. To document health, a medical form will be provided. The form should be completed by a primary health care provider within one year of admission and include immunization verification. Contact the Student Success Advocate for further information. 3. By July 1 st, before starting the Associate Degree Nursing program (Year 2), students must be CPR certified with BLS Healthcare Provider Certification from the American Heart Association. No other type of CPR is accepted. If the student fails to submit immunization, medical forms, CPR certification, or proof of insurance by the deadline, the student will be dismissed from the RIBN program. Contact the Student Success Advocate for further information. 4. By July 1 st, before starting the Associate Degree Nursing program (Year 2), accepted RIBN students are required to complete a drug screen and have a criminal background check. The screening results will be evaluated by the contracted clinical agencies. The clinical agency may deny student participation at the facility in regards to a criminal background check or drug screen and in this case, the student will be unenrolled from the RIBN program. Guilford Technical Community College cautions applicants that a criminal background check will be performed by the North Carolina Board of Nursing prior to issuing a license, and a license may not be granted based on the criminal background check. Contact the Student Success Advocate for further information. 5. Progression in the RIBN program is dependent upon completing required courses at the established level of proficiency. For nursing courses, student must achieve a grade of A, B, or C in order to progress. In addition, students who fail to meet student learning outcomes for the clinic nursing component will not be able to progress. 6. 5 9. Students must have a GPA of 2.0 or better in order to graduate from the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Students who receive a grade of D in a general education course (other than BIO) can graduate as long as their GPA is at least 2.0. However, a grade of D in a general education course will not transfer to another institution, nor will GTCC accept a grade of D for credit from another institution. Nursing students must have a C or better in Anatomy and Physiology I & II in order to graduate. 10. Students must successfully pass the NCLEX-RN exam and receive a license as an RN before beginning classes in Year 4 at NC A & T. 11. Individuals completing the nursing program are eligible to apply to take a licensing examination, which they must pass in order to receive a license to practice nursing. The licensing board does require information regarding conviction of a felony and/or misdemeanor and/or current charges on the application for licensure and MAY DECIDE NOT TO LICENSE an individual based on the result of an investigation of those particular charges. Important Note to all GTCC Nursing Applicants The GTCC Nursing Program faculty reserves the right to revise or change course requirements in accordance with applicable state laws, Board of Nursing requirements, college requirements, and /or at the discretion of the Nursing Faculty. By accepting admission into the Nursing program, the student agrees to at all times abide by the Nursing Program requirements and procedures as set forth in the Nursing Student Handbook and the respective nursing course syllabus issued at the beginning of each term for each course. Each student is bound by such requirements and procedures regardless of whether they were established before or after the date of enrollment in the Nursing Program. Changes made after the publication of the Handbook will be posted as an Addendum to the handbook.
