It is one of many schools throughout the world directed by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary IBVM (also known as the Loreto Sisters). To work in a Loreto school is to be part of a vibrant tradition reaching back to 1609 when Mary Ward established her first school for girls in Europe. The present site, The Acacias, on Portrush Road was opened in 1921 with 100 students. Today, there are some 600 students from Reception to Year 12 including 60 boarders. 2 Position Overview The role of the College Nurse is to support health promotion and provide appropriate preventative health care to better support the health and well-being of the students. The College Nurse works in conjunction with the First Aid Officer, providing hand-over details at the end of each shift to the First Aid Officer. Key Accountabilities Responsibilities and Expectations Key Performance Indicators Working effectively provide a high standard of basic nursing care to students both boarding and day students; evidence of effective nursing practices being adopted evidence of health care needs of students is managed manage the health care needs of boarding students and facilitate their attendance to any necessary appointments; evidence of efficient supply maintenance practices maintain adequate supplies of first aid equipment and medication; evidence that first aid equipment is compliant with policies supply first aid equipment for camps, excursions and retreats; evidence first aid equipment is maintained appropriately ensure staff attending camps, excursions and retreats are adequately instructed on the use of equipment in first aid kits eg Spacers/Epipens; in conjunction with the First Aid Officer, maintain separate documentation files of all individual boarding students; evidence of appropriate training practices evidence of annual update of boarding medical records containing medical histories, medication details and travel consents refer students to the Clinical Psychologist, general practitioner, medical specialists and allied health professionals, as appropriate; be aware of students with medical conditions and liaise with parents to ensure accurate care plans for individual students are circulated to staff in an appropriate manner; evidence of practices of infectious disease management evidence of referral process being adopted evidence of a range of effective communication strategies adopted assess students state of health and well-being and directly contact parents or caregivers to ensure safe return home of students who are too unwell to stay at school; evidence of effective and efficient administration practices evidence of meeting emergency requirements liaise with the Communicable Diseases Control Branch and other Government Departments to act appropriately in the minimise risk to the Loreto community; evidence a member of Leadership accompanied a student to hospital if necessary maintain accurate records of daily attendances, treatments, care and medication administered and inform parents of medical services provided; arrange for emergency ambulance transport of students in the event of medical emergencies requiring hospitalisation and assessment; evidence of care management strategies evidence of annual review of policies and procedures

3 Work Health and Safety prepare and upload student medical emergency list for access to staff; conduct head lice checks on an individual basis and classroom checks where the need arises; attend to all student personal care and hygiene needs including continence care as required; review and update all policies and procedures relevant to the Health Care Centre on an annual basis, report directly to the parents any changes in the health status of students; other duties as directed by Director of Staff; adhere to safe work practices; attend WHS meeting as a committee member and assist with the progress of the WHS Hazard Plan; report to the committee all student accidents, injuries and management at each WHS meeting; liaise directly with Loreto WHS Officer, regarding student and staff accidents and incidents; Communication maintain effective lines of communication with both the First Aid Officer, Clinical Psychologist, Administration Services Officers, Boarding House Supervisors, Year Level Leaders, Principal, Heads of School, parents and guardians in a sensitive and confidential manner; place health related notices in College newsletters and posters etc around the College as the need arises; Continuous Learning engage in professional development opportunities or associations in relevant areas which are external to the College; evidence of a range of effective communication strategies adopted evidence of good interpersonal and communications skills being adopted evidence of memberships of associations and committees and participation in professional associations take responsibility for achieving challenging personal professional goals; evidence of participation in personal/professional initiatives develop and sustain a positive image and profile within the Loreto community;
