2 FACULTY Mike Helbock ~ M.I.C.P. NREMT-P, SEI, Director of Emergency Medical Trainers & Consultants-Seattle/King County Resuscitation Academy. Mike is an internationally published author and originator for many of the standard emergency medical practices and training procedures that are incorporated into the EMS community today, including the SICK/NOT SICK approach to patient care. Mike weaves his 30+ years of paramedic service and teaching skills into his passion for EMS training and education. James Nania ~ MD, FACEP. Dr. James Nania specializes in emergency medicine and is medical program director for Spokane County EMS. He is affiliated with Deaconess Hospital and has been in practice for more than 40 years. Dr. Jimmy has been instrumental to the ongoing success of INHS s EMS live@night, bringing continuing education to rural areas in six states. Edwin Weih ~ PA-C, Five Rivers Family Practice; Oakridge, OR. Edwin Weih has served the Oakridge community for over 25 years as a PA. He has patients whom he s been seeing since they were 2 months old that are now graduating from college. Weih owns Five Rivers Family Practice, which provides a full spectrum of primary care services with a good bit of emergency medicine thrown in. Steve Cole ~ NREMT-P/FTO. Steve has over 25 years of experience in EMS and 20 years as a paramedic. Steve serves as Ada County Paramedics Training Captain and teaches classes at all EMS levels. He is a PHTLS instructor, and specializes in EMS education, and Technical Rescue. Mike Quintal ~ Sergeant, Grangeville Police Dept., Post Instructor, Active Shooter Response Instructor. Bill Arsenault ~ Bill Arsenault is a 26 year veteran of fire and EMS and is a decorated Combat Veteran. Bill is a senior Fire/Medic for Idaho Falls FD. He is a published author and international speaker on EMS topics. He currently sits on the Idaho EMS Advisory Council EMS Instructor seat and is the Education Subcommittee Chair. Bart Buckendorf ~ Bart has been with Ada County Paramedics for 32 years and is currently a Battalion Chief. Bart has provided first aid at a kid s camp in Donnelly for those same years where he is referred to as BooBoo Bart. Liz Montgomery ~ Liz Montgomery is passionate about educating the public on Safe Infant Sleep practices and also provides support to those who have experienced pregnancy, infant, or child loss. In 2012, she founded the nationally recognized, non-profit, Inland Northwest SIDS/SUID Foundation. Ms. Montgomery is a graduate of the University of Idaho with a Bachelor s degree in Education. Danny Griffis ~ MD, Family Medicine; Syringa Hospital. Dr. Griffis is an outdoors enthusiast who recently completed a 200 hr. wilderness medicine course and received a diploma in mountain medicine from the University of New Mexico. Mountaindocdanny is the medical director of Grangeville Mountain Rescue Unit and spends his free time with his family outdoors. Check out his recent adventures at

3 CONFERENCE CLASSES Sick or Not Sick? This class promotes decision-making and action during the initial minutes at a scene. The SICK/NOT SICK approach is critical-thinking at its BEST! It can be lifesaving. Trauma: Dr. Jimmy will be covering his favorite topic, trauma in the pre-hospital setting. Case Studies: True Life Interactive Case Studies - Using footage from real EMS scenes, we will make initial assessment, develop a Sick/Not Sick decision and offer appropriate interventions. State of the State: Idaho EMS Bureau will discuss changes affecting EMS providers, what EMS is working towards, and what to expect in the near future. Anaphylaxis: The pathophysiology, recognition, and treatment of Anaphylaxis. Detailed explanation and treatment for this deadly form of distributive shock. Spinal Immobilization: To backboard or not to backboard, THAT is the question! Dr. Jimmy discusses current protocols and controversy surrounding spinal immobilization, and best practices for when the answer to the question is yes! Opioid Epidemic: Among people years old, drug overdose causes more deaths than motor vehicle traffic crashes. This presentation will cover prescribed and non-prescribed opioids, signs and symptoms of opioid abuse, up-to-date treatment, and care for opioid abusers. Landing Zone Officer: State of Idaho approved Landing Officer Safety Class. This class teaches the fundamentals of safe and adequate landing zones, radio communications, and preparing the patient for loading and helicopter transport. Provides certification and recertification. Safe Sleep: Almost 11 babies die every day due to SIDS. Idaho ranks higher than average in infant sleep related deaths. This class is designed to educate parents, caregivers, medical professionals and child care providers on safe infant sleep recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Provider PTSD: The Three T s of Post-Traumatic Stress. You won't want to miss this presentation, voted the most exceptional presentation at the 2016 Utah Trauma Symposium. Time Sensitive Emergencies - Trauma, Cardiac, Stroke: TSE specifics for trauma, stroke, and cardiac events. EMS Tactical Response: Mass shootings, bomb threats, suicidal behaviors You need to know how to interact with your law enforcement officers as a team in critical situations. What is expected from EMS and what you can expect from Law Enforcement at the scene. Advanced Airways: Familiarize yourself with new airways that are easier to use with higher success rates. Hands- on practice for this critical skill. 12 Lead Intro: This course provides a basic understanding of the components of an ECG as well as introduces the important topics of acute myocardial infarction, hypertrophy, STEMI, and bundle branch blocks. Bleeding Control: This hands on course is a must for any first responder operating in the stressful, blood-filled world of pre-hospital trauma. This course teaches tips and tricks of bleeding control. It includes a "Simulation-Stimulation" segment. The Art of Professionalism: Every individual in EMS is in this profession for similar reasons. We are compassionate, motivated, self-starters who often spend our lives helping others. Come discuss the ups and downs of this noble profession and help foster the compassion that got you into this job in the first place. Pediatric Track: Pediatric Sick/Not Sick, Pediatric Case Studies, Emergency Childbirth. High Performance CPR: High-performance CPR is not a new procedure or guideline. It s a way of applying the current CPR guidelines more effectively. CPR is more than just pushing on the victim s chest and attaching an AED, it s about hands-on teamwork and time management. Continuing Ed for EMS Educators: If you are an EMS educator, this course is for you. Learn to hone your skills to be the best instructor you can be. Wilderness Medicine: Can you adapt your skills to the backcountry setting? Be prepared to provide emergency care where resources are limited and the environment can be extreme.

SATURDAY BANQUET DINNER Please join us Saturday evening from 6 to 10 PM for a banquet dinner (sponsored by Henry Schein Medical). Mike Helbock will present The Art of Professionalism, with credit towards continuing education. Main Entrée will be Chicken Parmesan and side dishes, provided by Season s Restaurant.
