Conditions and Trends The following table is intended to track conditions and trends that influence planning over a multi-year period beginning that began with the year. Review, revise and/or add new information as necessary. Please include data sources used. Select the "Year" in column one to reflect changes. The "Link to Data Sources and Support Options" button will open a Mt. SAC webpage that offers suggestions and links for potential data sources for your Unit. (Text boxes will expand. Add (+) rows, delete (-) rows as needed.) Year External Conditions, Trends, or Impacts Data Sources Establishing and maintaining agreements with clinical sites remains highly competitive. --IOM Future of Nursing - many facilities are only renewing Agreements/Contracts with BSN Schools. --Facilities are impacted with multiple nursing schools. IOM report & Advisory input Page 9 of 14

10 Although there continues to be a nursing shortage, hiring of new graduate Registered Nurses presents a challenge. --Facilities are hiring experienced RNs due to cost of New Grad Programs. --Due to the IOM Future of Nursing many hospitals are only hiring BSN graduates. Code 9 Agency Survey IOM report Grad student survey, Advisory Input Difficulty in finding clinical sites with specialty focus (e.g., psychiatric, pediatric, and maternity). Agency input Year Internal Conditions, Trends, or Impacts Data Sources Consider hiring faculty as allocated in the budget to ensure that there are adequate full time faculty to meet the programs objectives. Due to the lack of full time faculty, multiple adjunct faculty are used to fill clinical rotations. Full curriculum review is recommended by the Board of Registered Nursing to incorporate current trends, such as QSEN competencies throughout curriculum. Increase/encourage adjunct faculty member involvement in the development of policies and procedures, planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating all aspects of the program. This will increase cohesiveness of the program and improve student outcomes. The nursing department has added new programs such as T2P, ADN to BSN, and On Base Record Keeping, and the part time classified support is inadequate to fulfill the demands of the expanding nursing program. Purchase of new equipment in the HCRC sim lab (e.g., Lucinda birthing simulator) will improve the learning experience of the students and offer more versatility and a wider range of scenarios. Assess the possibility of obtaining curriculum revision Consultant to facilitate the RN Curriculum revision of the Nursing Program. BRN Self Study Maintenance of the University Center ADN to BSN program in collaboration with Mt. Saint Mary's University. IOM report Clinical rotations such as 12-hours shifts and weekend rotations have been increasingly implemented to accommodate program requirements, facility requests, and to provide a realistic clinical environment. Code 9 and Advisory Department Minutes, New Grad Survey, Codes 2 & 6 Year Progress on Outcomes Assessment Data Sources Cont'd. The first group of students from the New Multi-screening criteria entered into the program in the Fall 2014 semester. We are continuing to collect data and follow their progress through the program. The true attrition rate is 3.5% as of May (Pending) IX. Institutional Set Standards IX. Institutional Set Standards + - What are Institutional-Set Standards? o Institutional-Set Standards are another set of data used to inform planning assessment and outcomes in this process. o Institutions must set standards for satisfactory performance of student success to meet accreditation requirements. o These standards also provide the basis for the Institutional Effectiveness Partnership Initiative (IEPI) indicators that help colleges and districts improve their fiscal and operational effectiveness while promoting student success. For more information about IEPI indicators: Mt. San Antonio College must demonstrate that it: Establishes standards for its own performance Analyzes how well it is meeting its own standards Makes results available to all constituent groups Plans to improve in areas where its own performance is inadequate Page 11 of 14
