Application packets are reviewed on a competitive basis and students are accepted until the class is filled. Applicants are encouraged to apply early. It is highly recommended that students job shadow prior to applying to the program. You must meet the requirements outlined in this handout and be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to qualify. Admission of international students must comply with federal and state regulations pertaining to international student enrollment in U.S. colleges. Applicants may still be able to submit a qualified application after April 9, but only on a space-available basis. Interested individuals must attend a Health Information Program (HIP) Session (either face-to-face or online) to receive an application packet. All documents submitted with the application packet become the exclusive property of the college and will not be returned to the applicant. Qualified applicants who attended college outside of the United States and meet citizenship requirements must provide official transcripts from World Education Service. Fees for English translation of international transcripts must be paid by the applicant (contact our Registrar at studentrecords@octech.edu or for details). Misrepresentation of information on any required forms or a willful attempt to misrepresent residency will make an applicant ineligible for admission to OCtech Nursing and Health Science programs. Applicants who have two (2) unsuccessful enrollments in any Nursing and Health Science program will not be eligible for admission. To view our appeals process, visit In addition, applicants who have been offered admission to a Nursing or Health Science program at OCtech more than once and did not enroll must petition to a Counselor in writing to request permission to reapply. All applicants can expect to hear from us according to the schedule listed above. There is no guarantee that you will be accepted; however, we suggest that you make financial arrangements and complete the FAFSA ( in the event that you are offered admission, since payment of tuition, fees and books will be due in August. A national background check and/or drug test will be required upon acceptance to the program and before starting class in the fall. Positive results on background check and/or drug test may prohibit participation in clinical experiences and may necessitate removal from the program. Clinical sites may require additional background and drug testing during the course of a student s enrollment. It is the responsibility of the student to notify the Program Coordinator or Dean of any criminal charges, convictions, orders and/or sanctions that occur during the course of his/her enrollment. Failure to notify the Program Coordinator or Dean may necessitate removal from the program and revocation of eligibility to take the State Board Examination for Licensure or the National Certification Exam. Note: Prior criminal convictions may affect eligibility to take the State Board Examination for Licensure. 1

2 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Part I - Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible to move to Part II: Attend a Health Information Program (HIP) Session (face-to-face or online). Be a high school graduate or possess a GED. (Official transcript must be submitted. If this information is already on file, it does not need to be resubmitted.) Earn a 2.5 cumulative GPA from the last college where 12 or more credit hours were attempted (not including developmental/remedial courses). Official transcripts from all colleges must be submitted. (If this information is already on file, it does not need to be resubmitted.) Part II - Applicants qualifying to submit an application must meet One of the following: 1. SAT scores of 26 Reading and 5 Math 2. ACT Reading of 19 and Math of Eligible for BIO 210, ENG 101, MAT 102 and have taken the ATI TEAS or TEAS V- (Reading and Math only) with a minimum reading score of 65 and a composite score of 65 (average of Reading and Math). Students are allowed to take the TEAS test a maximum of two times for the year in which they are applying, UNLESS they participate in an approved TEAS Prep Course. Students participating in an approved TEAS Prep Course can take the TEAS test up to a total of four times during the designated application period. There is a minimum waiting time requirement of days between each TEAS test attempt. 4. Successful completion (minimum grade of C) of 13 credit hours from the listed Nursing and Health Science Core Courses (ONE of the courses used in the GPA calculation must be a science course): BIO 210, BIO 211, BIO 225, Math 102 or higher, ENG 101, PSY 201, with a GPA of 2.75 or higher. Biology, math and computer courses must have been taken within seven (7) years of the application date (a Coursework Appeal Form may apply please see a counselor for details). 5. Completion of a Diploma, Associate and/or Bachelor Degree or higher from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Guaranteed Track Admission (GTA) Applicants who have completed all of the following courses at OCtech on their first attempt with a calculated GPA of 3.25 and within five (5) years will be admitted to the program once all course work is verified by a Counselor: ENG 101, PSY 201, BIO 210 and 211, MAT 102 or higher, CPT 170/101 and a Humanities Elective Students who have had a prior enrollment in a Nursing and Health Science program at OCtech or those who received a GTA offer previously are not eligible for GTA. If the program is filled, applicants will be admitted the next fall semester. Deadline to apply for Guaranteed Track Admissions is February 1, Applicants should be aware that, before starting the program in the fall, ALL health science students must be able to meet the core performance standards for the classroom and clinical environment. 2
