1 JOB DSCRPTON JOB TTL: LD NURS: NFCTON PRVNTON ND CONTROL BND: 8 SLRY: HOURS: RPORTNG TO: CCOUNTBL TO: 37.5 per week SSSTNT DRCTOR OF NURSNG DRCTOR OF NFCTON PRVNTON ND CONTROL Job Summary n experienced, motivated and independently minded clinical infection prevention and control leader who is able to act on their own initiative, adopting a values led can do leadership style within a climate of constant change and uncertainty. Under the leadership of the Lead Medic/DDPC for nfection Prevention and Control and the Director of nfection Prevention and Control, the post holder will develop and manage the strategic direction, operational performance, quality, care and compassion of services. Reporting to the ssistant Director of Nursing, the post holder is expected to function at a senior level within the organisation, proactively leading and providing solutions to resolve complex issues, in accordance with professional standards, agreed Trust objectives, targets, quality standards and resource constraints. The post holder will have managerial experience in leading professional teams, and will possess leadership skills to deal competently with complex issues in ensuring that professional standards and policy are upheld, implemented and performance managed. Working closely with the Lead Medic/DDPC, the post holder will provide strategic leadership for delivery of the PC agenda, and management of infection prevention to ensure the prevention, surveillance and control of healthcare related infection in the Trust, and the attainment of key Trust performance targets relating to nfection Prevention and Control. The post holder will ensure that systems and processes are in place to comply with relevant legislation and governance requirements, linking with professional bodies, and others such as commissioners about service developments, contracts and clinical care pathways whilst utilising the expertise and skills of the wider team. 2 1. Key Responsibilities s a minimum, the post holder is responsible for; 1.0 Working closely with the Lead Medic/DDPC to support the development of the long term nfection Prevention & Control Strategies and nnual nfection Prevention & Control Programme. 1.1 nsuring the Trust meets both national and local targets in line with the Trust objectives. The post holder will monitor and evaluate the impact of the nfection Prevention and Control Strategy and its working practices. 1.2 Contributing to the development of the infection control service delivery and transformation plans across the Trust, supporting implementation plans, including those involving cross pathway working for the profession working internally and externally in support of enhanced patient care, safety and quality of services using established project methodology. 1.3 Co-ordinating and leading the development of a quality nfection Prevention and Control service, in acute and out of hospital services. 1.4 Providing expert, specialised advice on all matters relating to infection prevention and control, outbreak management and hospital hygiene to senior clinicians and managers, wards and departments; and to staff involved in the planning of clinical services or facilities. 1.5 nsuring that all clinical governance processes are in place for the infection prevention and control service, including leading on regular and annual reporting, verifying specific data relating to infection prevention and control and ensuring that all policies are up to date. 1.6 Leading compliance with the Health and Social Care ct 2008 (rev 2010) Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance to maintain registration and all relevant CQC fundamental standards and ensuring that the infection prevention and control service demonstrates the qualities of a well led service. 1.7 ssessing monitoring and implementing against NC guidance for infection control in primary care published in 2015 and updated in Supporting and driving nursing research opportunities and overseeing the delivery of effective infection prevention and control education programme. 1.9 Purchasing of some physical assets and supplies including working with procurement and contracts as necessary to ensure supplies are cost effective and value for money. 2. Leadership and Management 2.0 Lead and coordinate the development of a quality infection prevention and control service. 2.1 With the Lead Medic/DDPC develop and implement an annual programme for the prevention and control of infection in the acute and out of hospital services and write a quarterly and annual report.

3 2.2 Lead the infection prevention and control nursing service, using a multi-disciplinary approach to empower staff and challenge poor practice and behaviour which compromises patient care. 2.3 Be responsible for ensuring that objectives are set and managed against. 2.4 To represent the Trust and deputise for the Lead Medic/DDPC and ssistant Director of Nursing at strategic and operational meetings internally and externally for infection prevention and control issues. 2.5 nterpret health legislation and directives relating to infection prevention and control with regard to their impact on, or applicability to the Trust, and to ensure their effective implementation through high profile leadership as appropriate. 2.6 To ensure that grievances/disputes and complaints related to infection prevention and control are resolved speedily and at the lowest possible level of the organisation. 2.7 Lead and support quality improvement processes and applied research in partnership with other department s e.g. clinical governance, research and development, clinical audit. 2.8 Lead the development of organisational strategies by working closely with directorate leads to foster a culture that embeds best practice in infection prevention and control and sustainable organisational change. 2.9 dvise the Trust on financial matters pertaining to infection prevention and control including the expenditure of outbreaks, and the procurement of goods and services within sphere of responsibility nitiate, develop and deliver activities that result in income generation for the nfection Prevention and Control Team Develop effective relationships with key professionals at neighbouring hospitals and other relevant organisations Manage any infection prevention and control service that is contracted to be provided by the Trust, ensuring that quality indicators are met and reported on appropriately With the Lead Medic/DDPC and ssistant Director of Nursing, ensure that regular selfassessment is undertaken against compliance with the Health and Social Care ct 2008 (rev 2010) Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance to maintain registration with the CQC and provide assurance that compliance is achieved. 3. Specialist Practitioner 3.0 ct as an expert role model in nursing care within the Trust.

4 3.1 Use advanced nursing expertise to advise all grades and disciplines of staff on appropriate care for all inpatients, outpatients and community patients in order to prevent and control infection. 3.2 ct as a specialist adviser and resource to all staff, clinical and non-clinical, on issues relating to infection prevention and control. 3.3 Liaise and communicate with outside agencies where required, to effectively manage outbreaks and individual infections, especially Public Health ngland (PH), nvironmental Health (H). 3.4 nvestigate outbreaks and episodes of cross infection with reference to their source, mode of spread and means of control within the Trust. nvestigate critical incidents associated with infection using analytical tools such as root cause analysis (RC). Liaise with the Patient Safety Team and Health and Safety personnel. nsure mechanisms for reporting mandatory infectious diseases, surveillance and critical incidents are maintained. 3.5 Work in collaboration with Ward Managers, the nfection Prevention and Control Team, Clinical Site Manager and Bed Manager regarding movement and isolation of patients with infection or infectious diseases. 3.6 Provide effective advisory and psychological care to patients with infections, their relatives and relevant others, that may be of a sensitive and emotive nature. 3.7 dvise on the procurement of equipment and products to ensure that they do not represent an infection risk to patients, staff and other users of the hospital. 3.8 Provide expert infection prevention and control advice on new and refurbishment building projects in the Trust. 4. Clinical Research/udit/Quality ssurance 4.0 Develop and review infection prevention and control policies and procedures specific to the Trust with other members of the nfection Prevention and Control Team in line with legislation and ensure that assurance frameworks are in place to monitor compliance. 4.1 Plan, organise and coordinate audit and monitoring of the ward and hospital environment to ensure that infection prevention and control practices are concordant with the Trust s strategy and NHS plan. 4.2 Develop, organise and coordinate surveillance programmes, e.g. Surgical Site nfection Surveillance (SSS) in collaboration with the Lead Medic/DDPC. 4.3 nsure robust systems are in place and suitable evidence is available to provide assurance on infection prevention and control.

5 4.4 nsure, with relevant colleagues that national standards are implemented relating to air, water, domestic, laundry, pest control and catering services ducation 5.0 nsure that infection prevention and control programmes of continuous education are provided in line with the needs of the Trust and current national legislation. 5.1 Develop and provide educational and advisory material for patients, their families and visitors. 5.2 Develop and maintain the Trust s nfection prevention and control Link Programme, ensuring all departments are involved. 5.3 ct as a resource able to educate, advise and inform patients, relatives and the general public about infection prevention and control and related issues. 5.4 Develop effective relationships with key professionals at neighbouring hospitals and other relevant organisations.
