2 WORK BIO Felipe Esparza joined the CBHA Eye Care staff in March 2015 as an optician apprentice. He is very motivated to become a licensed optician and is enrolled with the Department of Health Care in their apprentice program. Under this program he must work 6,000 hours before he can take the state exam to become certified. Eighty percent of those hours must be spent with his preceptor, Dr. Calin Passey. Thus far he has completed almost 2,000 hours. I am excited to continue working towards this certification, he said. I already have my Associate in Business Degree. WHY HE WON Felipe s supervisor, Alex Bountharath, nominated him for the award. Felipe provides great support to Eye Care, he said. He rotates weekly between all sites. He said Felipe is willing to jump in EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH Felipe Esparza and work wherever coverage is needed. And he does it with a positive attitude! Felipe s ability to help out with both optician and technician duties is a great asset. He is also able to review billing tickets for errors and make corrections where needed. He s really a great asset to CBHA; he is a big help with inventory management for frames and contact lenses. He enjoys teaching other staff to adjust frames, update spreadsheets and troubleshoot other problems with lab. THE SCOOP Felipe said he was shocked and in a state of disbelief when he found out he had been chosen Employee of the Month. I never even expected to be nominated! He said he is very grateful for the amazing staff he works with every day. My mentor is amazing and I also enjoy working with Dr. Bleazard and Dr. Hair. I also really enjoy getting to know the patients, he said. I have been here long He s really a great asset to CBHA; he is a big help with inventory management for frames and contact lenses. enough that they know me when they return for follow-up visits. Outside of work, his main interests revolve around his one year old son, Oliver. He s so much fun and is growing and learning new things every day! Filipe enjoys the outdoors although he s not a fan of overly long hikes. He likes Congratulations to fish and go sightseeing. He has lots of family close by and they all enjoy time together. 3 Dental Assistant OF THE MONTH - JUNE 2017 RAMON BRAVO DENTAL ASSISTANT I Please join me in congratulating Ramon Bravo in his achievement of Dental Assistant Of The Month for June He was recognized by his co-workers for going above and beyond on his job duties. He exceeds expectations in demonstrating maturity, a very positive attitude and self-confidence in the accomplishments of tasks and communication with others. He provides every patient with high quality, skilled care and delivers compassionate, reliable service. He is extremely friendly and is well like throughout the entire department. His is very dependable and we love having him at WFD. ROCK N ROLL MARATHON Congratulations to Sunil Sunkara (Clinical Data Analyst at CBHA) who completed a full 26.2 mile marathon in Seattle. 4 Dime Award DRIVEN INDIVIDUAL MODELING EXCELLENCE MODESTA VIVAR PONCE Modesta, is driven to provide quality service to patients, especially those that are self-pay, and on the ACP Program. This is demonstrated, by Modesta calling the Coding Department to double check pricing and procedures being billed out at the time of the patient s visit, providing the patient with accurate charges. In turn giving the correct discount, and having the visit paid in full. She displays teamwork, if and when the charges or information is not available she is prompt to ask providers and or nurses for clarification on the services rendered. 6 JOINT COMMISSION CBHA recently completed its 6th successful Joint Commission survey! The three day on-site survey took place June and covered all clinic sites and modalities. The survey was made up of two parts Ambulatory Care and Home Care (the Home Care portion covered our DME supplies maintained by pharmacy and essentially was a pharmacy audit). Though CBHA secured re-accreditation, we did have some findings and suggestions for improvement. We will have 60 days to address the issues and report back to the Joint Commission. The areas cited were largely around Infection Control practices throughout the organization, with a couple of findings around Medication Management as well. Nothing was found to be an immediate threat to the safety of our patients. Many thanks to all those who were involved in the visit. A successful survey like this is truly a joint effort, requiring all hands on deck. The surveyors were very impressed with the staff of CBHA for their willingness to talk to surveyors, to be transparent about our practices and the willingness of the organization to make changes as identified to improve the safety of our patients. CBHA has been accredited through the Joint Commission since EMPLOYEE SHOUT OUTS There was a minor fender bender at the 14th Ave parking lot between two patient vehicles and Billy Garza took initiative with the situation and was a big help in making sure that the correct process was followed. Thank you, Billy, for taking leadership with this situation. From Carlos Ruiz I have loved coming here for over 15 years. Ms. Gilland made me feel like I was important. She checked me well and diagnosed me right away. She explained everything in a way that I could understand and answered all of my questions well. The receptionists were nice and cool. The staff was friendly. The center is clean. They addressed my needs quickly. They were on point. They understood the importance of my time back on the road. Ms. Kaiser was very friendly and made me feel comfortable, even though she was a woman. She knows what she is doing. I like the treatment I received from the receptionists and nurses. I like the atmosphere of happiness in the clinic. I enjoy getting smiles from the staff, it s always a treat when arriving here. From a visit at 14th Ave. Dr. Bass has been very nice and helpful. He lets me make my own decision. He goes over the x-rays and what he will be doing. I am able to set the appointments according to my schedule. He makes it very personal. He answers all of my questions and takes care of the situation, going over each step and making sure that I am not in pain. Dr. Passey explains everything well. He is not rushed. He is knowledgeable and cares. He takes a lot of time with his patients. VITAL SIGNS PAGE 6
