1 Long Term Care Benefit is a weekly benefit which is paid towards the cost of the fees if you are in a private residential or private nursing home. Private means not run by the States. LTCB is short for Long Term Care Benefit. Any person who has been assessed as being in need of residential or nursing home care and is in possession of a valid Needs Assessment Panel Certificate and who has at any time, lived in Guernsey or Alderney for a continuous period of 5 years (for at least 12 months immediately prior to claiming LTCB) is entitled to claim Long-term Care Benefit. The person in care must pay the first per week of the fees to the care home. This is called the co-payment. On top of your co-payment, the Social Security Department will pay per week for Residential Care and per week for Nursing Care. EMI (Elderly Mentally Infirm) Rate per week for EMI care. In this booklet LTCB rate means that there is no extra charge beyond the combination of the co-payment and Long-term Care Benefit paid by Social Security. Where stated, rooms charge privately means that rooms cost more then LTCB rate and any extra charges need to be met from your own funds or by a third party.
